The New Orleans Specters are excited to give some organizational updates for the S63 season that’s just beginning.
For what seems like a lifetime ago, the Specters won the S54 Challenge Cup, and came within a Game 7 OT loss of repeating as champions in S55. Since then, we entered the first rebuild in the franchise’s history, and I’d say we’ve done a very good job in building our new core. It starts in net, where Jon St. Ark has grown into one of the top goaltenders in the league, even if he doesn’t get the publicity he deserves just yet. And on top of that, Iorek Byrinson is one of the best backups in the league, and we’re definitely going to ignore that he allowed 10 goals to Philadelphia yesterday. On the back end, long time Captain Lyle Odelein III is still plugging along, despite HO’s best efforts to cut his kneecaps off. He’s joined by fellow old timers acquired through trades in Slip McScruff and Zlatan Ibrahimovic Jr.as well. The always reliable Conner Hutton is here, as he’s been a staple on the NOLA blue line since his very early, rarely seen call up. And then we have a pair from S58 that is the future of New Orleans defense: Jean-Locke Zidane and Ole Olson, two absolute beauts that warm my heart watching them do their thing. Up front, Xavier Doom leads the way alongside his S56 draft mate Valterri Kauppinen, who was acquired in a trade from Tampa Bay when the numbers game got too tight over there. Its the same reason they were able to snag Slava Petrov off of waivers from Texas as well. Zakkira Diporov was brought over from Winnipeg, but the rest have been home grown. S57 brought us current Alternate Captain Vlastislav Malik, who has *blossomed* into a human wrecking ball, leaving more bruises on their opponents than anyone else in the league. S58 was good to us yet again, as it brought us Nikolaj Boyle and Friednsreich Hundertwasser, two amazing players that help us both on and off the ice and just improve the experience as we grow together. S59 gave us Ville Kurri who’s starting to come into his own as a player at the right time. And then S61 was a homerun too, as Tomas Zadina made the jump directly to the SHL as a true rookie, where he’s performed admirably. Not to be outdone, S61 also brought us future face of the franchise Atticus Hale, who will be making his SHL debut next season and hidden gem Giannis Kroustis will be right behind him. Just a quick recap of our active core (and TPE!) then: S45: Slip McScruff(1148) S48: Lyle Odelein III (1446) S51: Zlatan Ibrahimovic Jr. (1489) S55: Zakkira Diporov (1649), Conner Hutton (1513) S56: Xavier Doom (1700), Valterri Kauppinen (1682), Slava Petrov (1338) S57: Vlastislav Malik (1591), Jon St. Ark (1511) S58: Friedensreich Hundertwasser (1368), Ole Olson (1354), Jean-Locke Zidane (1320), Nikolaj Boyle (1301) S59: Ville Kurri (1085), Iorek Byrinson (903) S61: Atticus Hale (857), Tomas Zadina (717), Giannis Kroustis (586) Despite needing to focus on acquiring some defenders to replace the older players very soon, this rebuild went really well. We’re just on the cusp of really winning some games and returning to the playoffs for the first time in a long time. We still have some growing to do, but as long as everyone stays active, we’re going to make a little bit of noise this season and beyond. The future is looking good here. I'm proud to be a part of this collection of (mostly) outstanding indivuduals. So one last announcement then, we have a *NEW* Alternate Captain to name! Joining our Captain Lyle Odelein III and Alternate Captain Vlastislav Malik will be: NIKOLAJ BOYLE! ( @zaynzk )
It’s well deserved, and he was worthy of this honor for sure! It was a hard choice with so many good options. Congrats my man! Well, that’s all, thanks for checking in and reading. Everyone can feel free to make fun of Zayn in the comments, thanks.
