Kelowna has seen quite a lot of promise in the first few games despite a slightly unexpected record; expect them to bounce back and become a dominating force in the next few weeks of the season. Here's three players I (a noted pundit and analyst) predict will be vital in the remainder of the season.
( C ) Wilhelm Von Hindenburg II: with his large and domineering frame, Von Hindenburg leads the team with 6 goals in 8 games. This pace is impressive, and has him creeping up on Jeff Hunziker's current lead with 8 goals. Watch out, Jeff, the Hindenburg is crashing down... Oh the humanity! Expect more hits from Hindenburg this season too as he's just as talented defensively as he is offensively. (RW) Marc Gorman: Gorman's eliteness on the PK hasn't gone unnoticed. With 1 SHG already and an average SH TOI of 1:34 already, Gorman has been a controlling force on the Kelowna's penalty kill unit alongside Crystal McLeod, Rocky Orwell, and Cole Dasice. He's already been able to flip the switch and score with a disadvantage, so I see a great future on the PK for him this season especially if Rocky Orwell keeps taking terrible penalties. (G) Activity Check: Ring ring, come get your TPE– just kidding. You've been WALLED OFF by Activity Check, who boasts a 0.925 SV% in 3 games played, where he's had 2 wins. Beautiful stats for a rookie. I hope Mr. Check gets quite a few more starts than required this season just to show off his potential to be an all star. That's all folks. Kelowna is bringing it home. Clyde out.

The Kraken are looking quite good this year, with a healthy crop of rookies. Two of those rookies will be important to our team's success this year, Goaltender Sith happens, who will be our starting goaltender and whose success will greatly affect the team's record, cause if he doesn't stop anything it would be very difficult to win games. The other important rookie would be Lazer Gato, as a first pairing defenseman Gato will be expected to take up most of the minutes against the Kraken's Opponents. The most important player on the team however will be Captain Filip Svatos, as Captain and a scoring center Svatos' leadership and offensive prowess will be on full display this year. Overall the Kraken will only be able to go as far as their rookie defence and goaltending can take them and may struggle in the early part of the season, but should become a serious threat by the end of the season.

Ten games into the season, the Great Falls Grizzlies have been facing some messes that can only get better from here, right? With a record of 3-7-0, it couldn't get much worse. The storylines coming out of the team are in three players: Billy Hill, Dave Richardson and Kyle Latrielle.
Let's start with newcomer Left Defender Billy Hill. Though his play got off to a rocky start, at one point being as low as -5 on the season, has started to find his form. On the day he was signed, there were allegations that he may or may not have spent a large amount of money on hookers and blow, as well as allegations of forged nationalization papers, but his play has only gotten better in recent games since the draft. Sitting solidly at -1, he seems to have found something in his game that is working out well for him. It is still early and things can change but he may be the steal of the draft, baggage and all. Now, Dave Richardson is an odd story. The center has reportedly missed every single training session this season but leads the squad in points with 14. Other forwards stare in absolute horror as the seemingly inactive offensive natural makes the most out of every opportunity he is given. It makes no sense, but if a player who doesn't try can put up this kind of numbers, it will be a crazy season. Finally, there's Kyle Latrielle, the only player on the roster with a positive overall rating to this point. His past few games have been rock solid, and with his work ethic, there's no doubt that he will continue to be a thorn in the side of all teams in the SMJHL for months to come. The only question, can he keep this up? We'll see.

The team I'm on, the Kelowna Knights had a pretty good pre-season in my opinion. I am still new to this league, but I am learning a lot from my team mates, as well as my GM's. I truly believe that the Knights have a good chance to have a great season and make a hopeful playoff run. I believe the 3 keys to the teams success in my opinion would have to be:
1.Tibuk Soonika, having a goalie who can do great things on and off the ice is very important. I believe the goalie is the heart of a team in my opinion. if you don't have a great goalie, then you don't have a great team. Tibuk has the ability to stop tons of shots and help us shut down teams. 2. Wonada Jagrs, Wonada is a seasoned veteran in the league and holds the experienced needed to help us rookies in becoming the players we would like to be. 3. Kelowna's GMs- Snussu and Artermis, The GM's are a big part to a teams success. i believe out GM's can take us to great heights as a unit and take us far in the season all the way to the playoffs. Yukon is looking for the cup and nothing less this season. All of the pieces should be in place for this to happen. The team is the most complete it has been in the past few seasons. Here are a few players that will be key this season:
LW Alvin Wong - On the offensive side, Wong has been a staple for Yukon over the past few seasons and that will need to continue this season. He broke out last season to lead the team in points. Carrying that momentum into this season will be crucial for Yukon's success. LD Syndney Shaw - For the defense, third-year player Sydney Shaw will very important. Last season, she had the most blocked shots on the team and also finished in the top 5 for minutes played. Sydney's constant on-ice presence will be key. G Gunnar Seggi - I made this pick solely on the account that over the past three seasons, Yukon has been trying to find a steady goalie between the pipes. This has been something holding the team back and now with a solid goalie in place, this will hopefully complete the roster.

There are still a lot of players on QCC who have room for growth, so the expectations are not super high. Some of the more experienced players will have a big role and an important responsibility to help out the youngsters and lead them by an example. For QCC the most seasoned players are Nathan Cormier, Smurfunkel Dothe and Elena Maximova, all from the S70 class. Cormier and Dothe have to play big minutes at forward and be very effective if Citadelles want to enjoy success, and Maximova will have to carry the defense on her back. The younger players who you should keep an eye on are Jeff Hunziker, Zhang Liao, Keegan Gamble and Jaromir Jagrbomb, who are all part of the S72 class and have the opportunity to start their careers in a team without much pressure. Net Man in net obviously is also a big factor, and if he would have a great sophomore season, it could give QCC a chance to surprise a lot of people.

Looking at the season ahead, the St. Louis Scarecrows will look to have an improved season compared to the past few years. The team is anchored by defenseman David Doug and right wing Lasse Zeigler, both being veterans of the team who will be relied upon to lead the team on and off the ice. They will help mentor and encourage the new members of the Scarecrows as the team looks to make steady improvements in the hopes of a Four Star Cup. Forwards Crazy Tomato and Marshall Madden will likely build upon their rookie seasons and go into the season being better overall players compared to last season. Rookies Sven Holmberg, König Wolf, and recently signed Kellen Watkins will hopefully be viewed as the future of the Scarecrows. Holmberg and Wolf had good preseason showings for the Scarecrows. Finally, the team will be backstopped by Kay Lee and Kyle Baretto, a strong goalie tandem that will hopefully help the Scarecrows steal some games as the season progresses.

The Grizzlies are in a spot where a lot of the team is pretty young, and in need of growth. The expectations aren't set the highest, and a lot of weight is going to be put on this season's rookies to adapt and grow into their roles as fast as possible before the guaranteed playoffs that Grizzlies enjoy thanks to a 3 team division they find themselves in. On defense, the current only veteran in the position is Pork Tenderloin, and on his shoulders, a great responsibility to carry the team along until newbies like Hlemýžď, Hill or Samuelsson can fully take shape and become competetive. Forward core is a bit more fleshed out, but the key veterans in Kyle Latreille and Tiberius Kane are going to be the focal points of the team's offensive endeavours and will be relied upon in special team situations. The worst situation is with the teams goaltending though. Here, a rookie in Kavanagh has already taken over the reigns as the team's starter, as there wasn't a reliable answer otherwise, and combining an unexperienced defense with an untested goalie might prove too much for Grizzlies this season.

Since the season is underway I figured I'd look at how the Berserkers are doing so far and suggest that we will keep up our great start.
Starting out of the gate with a great record of 12-1-1 as of 2037-11-1. They have come out very aggressive amassing a ton of shots each game, which in turn results in Newfoundland leading the league in goals for so far. Down the middle our centers, John Hopoate and Erik Erikson are leading the team in scoring both goals and points. They are certainly driving this powerful offense with a great supporting cast of talented forwards. I'd expect a lot more offense going forward.
Two experienced defensemen, Mit Wobet and Adelbert Steiner, will continue to frustrate the opposition as Rhett Carpet holds down the net with tremendous goaltending. Newfoundland has been amongst the league's best in goals against as well. With this combination of offense and defense, the Berserkers are eyeing a deep playoff run. Thanks -Sean

Going into the season, the Vancouver Whalers have a stacked roster that should look to compete for the top spot in the league. Particularly worth noting is the top line of Wednesday Addams, Klaes Ashford, and Jeff Lewis.
Wednesday, while on the smaller side, is a top notch playmaker. With borderline game-breaking speed, she is almost a purely offensive threat. She's equipped to quarterback the top line but will need to lean on her teammates defensively, as it's not her strength. Jeff Lewis's hockey IQ and finishing ability make him a prime candidate for Addams' passes. He may be a step slower, but his ability to find the back of the net is among the best in the league. Perhaps the biggest piece of the top line is Klaes Ashford, who is adept both at passing and shooting the puck himself. He's also the most defensively sound of the top 3, though it's not the focus of his game. With Addams feeding both Ashford and Lewis, look for them to light up the league this year.

Saint Louis looks like a team building some blocks for future runs. It's working with a group of recent draftees that will eventually improve to junior league standards and considering that's coming in sequence to what was a good rebuild start, there's a good chance the team will be biting at the higher shelf next season... though I wouldn't rule out some playoff magic from happening this very season if luck smiles their way.
Currently, the more troubling thing I can think of is Detroit. They seem to have had the Scarecrows' number repeatedly which is a bit problematic since they're apparently worse than St. Louis yet since everyone gets a shot in the post-season, they very much so could be a proper boogie team that should stunt the Scarecrows down the line, though the current state of affairs will naturally change in time barring some massive unrelated disaster. Now I don't believe a team should pin their hopes on specific players - people who have seen me playing FM will know that while I appreciate a star (Auremar on Fluminense comes to mind), I think a cohesively strong team is always superior... but given the restrictions that junior play has, I'd argue St. Louis' next season will see König Wolf, Sven Holmberg and Crazy Tomato as their three stars with the likes of Sunrise van de Schubbekutteveen serving as the back-up. It's a very promising line-up as long as things follow their natural state. I was signed as a free agent to the Kraken and this season we are looking to take advantage of the skill ability available to them. The three players on our team which you need to keep an eye on are:
Forward - Johnny Wagner-Svenson our captain, in the preseason Johnny has been a force to be reckoned with and has been a point scoring machine. He's netted 12 goals for himself and assisted on 16 goals, showing that he's a real threat in front of the net. Defender - Bjorn Arnesson has been a real force to be reckoned with on defence, offensive players watch out! Bjorn has not been afraid in the slightest to put his body on the line, he has blocked a total of 53 shots so far. Goaltender - Sith Happens, He has been a real star in goal. He has a save percentage of 9.06% and a GAA of 3.31, which as the league goes on for the year will only improve further. (166 words)

Some quick research reveals that one of the key players on the Vancouver Whalers is Kales Ashford. He's sixth in points and tied for third in goals. The second most important player on the team is INACTIVE FOREVER with twenty-six points. Another core player is right wing Jeff Lewis with twenty four points in nineteen games. As well as seventeen assist . As for the results on the ice, Vancouver is third in the SMJHL and first place in their division by six points. They have seventy seven goals against them as opposed to eighty four goals for them. They're also seven two and two at home this season as well two to one in shootouts.
All around Vancouver is a top contender in this league and a pretty well built team overall. I think the team relies on a group effort as opposed to one or two people. Depth should be helpful for them later as the season goes on and we get to the playoffs. Quote:166 Words

Here at the Anchorage Armada, we do not put a lot faith in the preseason. It’s mostly just practice. We use it as a way to get loose ahead of the season. Preseason ended with us at 3-4. Our top performers at six points were the left wings. BARG HAZBITE and MIKE ROGERS JR. We are hoping for a lot out of these two. It seems like we are going to need to score a lot of goals this season to offset lack luster defense. After a not so great preseason, I agreed to switch to center. Where my play making abilities could helpful. The best defenseman in the preseason was GNABE DABSON. The veteran was able to get up ice and help with a few assists, making his goal deferential one of the top this preseason. Last, but certainly not least. Maybe one of the most important people on the team GEORGE WALSH the keeper. We put a lot of pressure on him and I’m sure he didn’t have as good a preseason as he would’ve liked. I talked to him personally and he is taking criticism well. I think if the defense steps up. He will have a much easier time. I believe preseason showed us exactly where we needed to improve.

The Vancouver Whalers have a great roster for the coming season, with a great mix of established smjhl veterans and exciting young prospects, I believe the Whalers have a legitimate shot at the smjhl championship. Here I will go over some of the players I think are most integral to there success.
Starting goalie Noah Charlevoix gives this team a back end that always has a chance to steal games. Currently tied in 3rd for wins his stellar play will be essential for the Whalers to be a championship squad. Slick Puck handling defenseman Bellamy Blake stands tall at 6'2 and leads the Whalers from the blue line. Using his elite passing he has 8 assists and 13 points for the Whalers this season. Recent 3rd round draft pick Scott Seitz shows the future for the Whalers. Seitz has already impressed this season scoring 13 points in his rookie campaign, although his defense leaves a bit to be desired. He should blossom into a top smjhl player. These players should make the Vancouver Whalers one of the most likely teams to win a championship. |
