My bad on this...and a lot of other stuff... getting delayed, I ran into a buzzsaw of busy
Hello everyone and welcome to the S70 IIHF Awards Show! We'll start off by once again congratulating the world champion and host Germany (and fed head @Tomen) on a job well done, both on the ice and off it. Props to our other medalists, Sweden snagging silver, Japan bronze, as well as fourth-place Latvia, a little team that showed they could.
But we're here today for the players, the fellas who we watch these tournaments for! Today we are giving out IIHF Directorate Awards, for best forward, best defender, and best goalkeeper.
Two of last season's finalists going up against a veteran in his final tournament. But there can only be one winner, and our committee made this pretty decisive...the best goalkeeper of this year's tournament, with 16 vote points is....
Miller was rock solid in the group stage, leading all full-time starters in GAA and SV% and placing second in GSAA. He was also excellent in the knockout games against Great Britain and Japan, allowing just one goal in each. This is the first time he has won the honor; congrats to Miller!
Now to the guys in front of the goalkeeper, starting at the blueline...
Another triad looking for their first directorate honor, but this one was also pretty unanimous in our committee with only one dissenter not putting our winner in first place. Said winner is....
Fischermann led all defenders in scoring this tournament with one of the best offensive performances we've seen from a defender at this tournament. His 9 goals were the most ever in the groups by a blueliner amongst all seasons in the index. Sometimes, the best defense is a good offense, and Fischermann definitely provided that for Team GB! Congrats to him!
Speaking of scoring, now we move to the front line here....
Best Forward
Top Three Finalists
Max Manning (Groups: 12-13-25, +7, 17 PIM) Lord Raiden (Groups: 10-10-20, +10, 12 PIM) Lev Lebedev (Groups: 7-13-20, +4, 4 PIM)
Much like the other awards, this was pretty consensus, and unsurprising when you factor in the historic rate of the numbers...this year's IIHF Best Forward is....
Amongst all seasons in the index, Manning set a new IIHF record for points in the group stage. Whether it was on the power play or even strength, there wasn't much (besides Toms Zīle in the quarters) stopping the ace. While Canada couldn't repeat their gold feat of a season ago, they were still making a different kind of IIHF history. Also, useless side note, but this means all three directorate awards went to members of the Seattle Argonauts, so props to them.
I don't know, with all due respect.. I think my boy Toms Zīle got robbed here: 471 shots against (39,25 per game) vs. Millers 187 (23,4 per game).
While also having the slightly better gsaa, although by only 0,27, but that's a big increment considering the shot volume he faced

Big thanks to Pythonic(first sig evah), Sloth(first LAP sig<3) and Ragnar for their sigs<3

tbh I would give it to him just for the Canada game but I’m biased
