This draft has produced some legends in the SHL with many reaching the 2000 TPE mark, now in regression we will take a look at the staying power of some of the top stars and where a redraft may take us now knowing who has been a consistent earner and who has fallen short. We will take a look at TPE Leader’s Board, Average TPE, and a redraft based on those still on an SHL roster.

This draft class has done amazingly well so far. SHL DRAFT: Round 1 1.  Manhattan Rage - Aksel Fiske – 1999 TPE – RIGHT WINGClearly the Rage did their homework when drafting Fiske as he was part of the 2000 TPE club until regression took him out last season. He has clearly developed into a first line winger for the Rage, and he continues to be one of their top stars. REDRAFT: Shōyō Hinata - 2104 TPE – UP 9 SPOTS The top TPE earner manages to take over the top spot for the Rage in a redraft. Shoyo has had a tremendous career. While out earning Fiske, the talent on ice would be very similar with a slight edge to Shoyo. 2.  Winnipeg Aurora - Mikko Rashford – 2098 TPE – RIGHT WINGThis was a big draft year for Winnipeg, and they placed their hopes in moving the franchise forward with a game changer in Mikko Rashford and he did not disappoint. The second highest earner in TPE and once again a Right Wing he has become a franchise piece for the Aurora. REDRAFT: Mikko Rashford – 2098 TPE – NO MOVEMENT There is absolutely no doubt Winnipeg nailed this pick and they are clearly happy with the returns they received in a generational talent like Rashford. Not only did they take a swing at a picking a right winger as one was already claimed off the draft board, but they got an even better one then the first overall pick. 3.  Seattle Argonauts (  -> ) - Sconnie McHits – 1905 TPE – LEFT WINGSeattle must have seen two wingers selected and cursed under their breath as two big names had been selected before them. Still, they found a great pick with real staying value in Sconnie. He has been making a big impact for the Argonauts almost the moment he was called up to the main roster. REDRAFT: Spack Jarrow – 2019 TPE – UP 1 SPOT I am saying Spack moves up based on TPE, but Sconnie has outpaced Jarrow in points. Still you never know how much linemates, playing time and other factors come into play. Spack is the highest earning Left Winger and deserves the recognition of the top left winger in this class. 4. Winnipeg Aurora (  -> ) - Spack Jarrow – 2019 TPE – LEFT WINGSo far Winnipeg is winning in this draft year already claiming the best Right Wing and now the Best Left Wing. They really did their homework. Unfortunately the redraft has already claimed Jarrow meaning Winnipeg is looking for a talented replacement. REDRAFT: Viktor Krunk - 2006 TPE – UP 5 SPOTS And a solid replacement they shall receive. Krunk has been a top earner and he really deserved his jump in position. Stat wise he is just over a point per game and has a 100+ point season. Losing Spack would hurt but gaining Vitor would make the pain go away. 5. Winnipeg Aurora - ( -> ) - Jay O'Neil – 2082 TPE – DEFENSESo far this draft has been insane for the Aurora, and it really does not stop here. Now they selected Jay O’Neil, the second best defender in the draft…Talk about building a core all in one draft. This do it all defender has been an anchor for the Winnipeg blue line. REDRAFT: Ben Jammin – 2087 TPE – UP 2 SPOTS I have a feeling the Aurora are not losing sleep missing out on Ben, he only has 5 more TPE then O’Neil. Hell in really life they may still pick Jay over Ben, but in the redraft we go Ben all day long. He earned his spot with that extra 5 TPE. He is a roadblock in Chicago, and I know he would be an amazing addition to any team lucky enough to have him. 6. Montreal Patriotes ( ->  -> ) - Zayne Dangle – 1991 TPE – DEFENSEAnother member of the 2000 TPE club. Zayne did everything asked of him. He must have been moved early in his career as he has played every game in the SHL in Buffalo. Still kudos to the Montreal scouting department in picking out a hell of a player. REDRAFT : Jay O'Neil – 2082 TPE – DOWN 1 SPOT Well, there wasn’t a long fall for Jay as he takes over the second best drafted defender in the redraft. Jay has really put in the work, and he shows his original selection was a good pick. Montreal gets a little more production out of another talented defender. 7. Montreal Patriotes ( -> ) - Ben Jammin – 2087 TPE - DEFENSEOriginally a Montreal pick here, can you imagine a world that Montreal kept both Dangle and Jammin?!! Their defense would have been setup for a generation with two of the best talents the SHL has seen for years. Oh because I promised, this was a terrible pick and clearly a no talent hack…great pick here. REDRAFT: Dirty Boots – 2008 TPE – UP 12 SPOTS A candidate for the steal of the draft, Dirty Boots proves a lot of GMs wrong by jumping up 12 spots! Clearly Montreal is happy with their defensive choices at this draft, but in the redraft one is gone and the other has not quite earned as much as boots giving the franchise defender a well earned jump in the draft order. 8. Manhattan Rage ( -> -> -> ) - Paul Koivu – 1961 TPE – LEFT WINGThe Rage were on the clock, and they went back to offense and decided on another potential hall of fame winger. Grabbing the talented Paul Koivu, he has turned into one of the better left wingers of his generation. REDRAFT: Paul Koivu – 1961 TPE – NO MOVEMENT The Rage hit the nail on the head with this pick. Koivu has been a force in the SHL, the Rage’s scouting staff really found one of the best available forwards and left wingers on the board. A former 2000 TPE member Paul has done everything expected out of a top 10 pick. 9.  Atlanta Inferno - Viktor Krunk – 2006 TPE – Left WingThis draft was really all about wingers and defense as both positions have just flown off the board. In addition, the scouts have been nailing their picks mostly gathering players that have hit or were just shy of the elusive 2000 TPE club. Viktor Krunk at number 9 in most drafts may have been a steal, in this one he is in a great spot. REDRAFT: Sconnie McHits – 1905 TPE – DOWN 6 SPOTS Sconnie doesn’t know, Sconnie doesn’t know, so don’t tell Sconnie! Sconnie’s tumble from 3rd overall finally comes to an end. He is still one of the best players picked up in this draft and while losing out on a talent like Krunk I am sure Atlanta would be happy to have a player of Sconnie’s caliber on their roster. 10.  Edmonton Blizzard ( -> ) - Shoyo Hinata – 2104 TPE – RIGHT WINGThe Blizzard may have found what could arguably be the steal of the draft. Looking back on it now, Shoyo should have been the first player drafted. A true generation type talent in TPE earning Shoyo has become a franchise piece for the Atlanta Inferno. REDRAFT: Aksel Fiske – 1999 TPE – UP DOWN 9 SPOTS With Shoyo gone the Blizzard are forced to pick up another forward and grab Aksel in a draft/REDRAFT day trade. I am sure the Blizzard are just as happy to be picking up the talented winger as he is a member of the 2000 TPE club and a franchise piece. 11. Winnipeg Aurora - ( -> ) - Jaeger Jones – 1183 TPE – DEFENSEIt feels weird to say someone who earned 1200+ TPE is a reach, but compared to the players chosen in the top ten it kind of feels that way. Still 1200 TPE has produced a talented defender for the Winnipeg Aurora and allowed them to create a top 4 that is the envy of most of the league. REDRAFT: Zayne Dangle – 1991 TPE – DOWN 5 SPOTS You really have to give it to the scouting staff of Montreal and Winnipeg, they nailed the early round of drafting, Zayne falls 5 spots but is still one of the most talented defenders in this league. This would be a HUGE increase for Winnipeg if this had happened and an already epic draft class could have become the greatest draft class in the SHL history. (It might still be). 12. Winnipeg Aurora ( -> ) - Tommy Tightpants – 817 TPE – RIGHT WINGOk…maybe I gave them a bit too much credit, Winnipeg went to the draft once again grabbing a winger this time. After just missing out on Shoyo they must have hoped there was great talent in Tightpants. I mean he did top out around 900 TPE so he is no slouch, but the talent difference between Tommy and the rest of the draft we have seen is night and day. REDRAFT: Yannick Svoboda - 1945 TPE – UP 5 SPOTS A rare miss by Winnipeg in the season 62 draft. If they could do it over they would absolutely love to have Yannick at this spot and can only dream of what could have been with their franchise changing draft. Could you imagine a world where Winnipeg had Jarrow, Rashford, Svobaoda, O’Neil, Kinsinger, and Montagne…OMG and they almost did! 13  Calgary Dragons - Eddie Creller – 668 TPE – RIGHT WINGUnfortunately, the streak of forwards and lowered expectations continues. The Dragons picked up Eddie at this spot. A useful bottom 6 winger but picking in the first round let alone top 15 you are hoping to find a top 6 talent. REDRAFT: Jeff Larson – 866 TPE – UP 2 SPOTS Jeff is a solid player, but compared to the forwards all selected before him he pales in comparison. Still, this is an upgrade for the Dragons and would have been a much needed boost to their bottom 6 at this point in the franchise. 14. Winnipeg Aurora ( -> -> -> ) - Christian KinsingerConsidering the string of weak wingers picked the Aurora absolutely nailed this pick with the future hall of famer in the top 15. Kinsinger will go down as one of the best defenders in the SHL and I am sure Winnipeg couldn’t be happier to have him on their roster. REDRAFT : Christian Kinsinger – 1986 TPE – UP 3 SPOTS It seems odd to reselect a player that reached over 2000 TPE in the same spot, but Kinsinger is in the perfect place within this draft. The Aurora really nailed this selection getting amazing value for a player selected within the top 15 and really building the foundation for their franchise. 15. Manhattan Rage ( -> ) - Jeff Larsson – 866 TPE – RIGHT WINGThe Rage went forward heavy at this draft and 2 out of 3 have panned out into amazing franchise pieces. Larsson has been a useful addition as a bottom 6 player but compared to the other two and arguably the rest of the draft he was a bit of a reach. REDRAFT: Tommy Tightpants – 817 TPE – DOWN 3 SPOTS Tommy reappears here as a top 15 pick and only falling three spots. Truthfully if they went defense they would have found a lot more value behind the pick, but matching position to position Tommy becomes the best player at this moment in the current draft and the trade off in TPE is not much at all for the Rage. 16. Winnipeg Aurora ( -> -> ) - Rebecca Montagne – 2034 TPE - GOALIEGoalies seem to be one of those positions that are either hit or miss in the SHL. Taking one in the first round has a lot of risks, but the rewards can produce a franchise tender that will lead your team for seasons to come and be the one person that can win hockey games on their own. That is Rebecca Montagne. REDRAFT: Brick Wall – 2054 TPE – UP 2 SPOTS Rebecca will go down with an amazing career, but someone has (at this point) out worked Rebecca, so Brick wall becomes the redraft by 20 TPE. I am sure Winnipeg is happy with their selection and they are not looking back wondering what if. Still Brick Wall gets the nod for that little bit extra put into this point in their careers. 17. Los Angeles Panthers ( -> -> ) - Yannick Svoboda – 1945 TPE – RIGHT WINGClearly in the real draft there was still talent to be had and the Panthers made a phenomenal selection considering the 3 Right Wingers before him did not reach half the TPE that Yannick has earned. Picking up a franchise piece in the 1st round is not a surprise, but the fact the Panthers found him as the REDRAFT: Alexander Mackenzie – 806 TPE – UP 11 SPOTS Ok so Alexander Mackenzie is up 11 spots, arguably the steal of the draft, but his low TPE and luck of positioning made for the rise. I can’t call it a steal when he is a mid-level talent. The Panthers would in the redraft losing out on Yannick could have changed the course of the Panthers franchise in a negative way as they lose a franchise piece and over double the TPE earned by one player. 18. Montreal Patriotes ( -> -> ) - Brick Wall – 2054 TPE - GOALIEMuch like Winnipeg, Montreal took a chance on a goalie, and they were paid off in spades, grabbing the best goalie and one of the best players in the draft this season. Brick Wall was aptly named as he has been nothing short of a Brick Wall in net. A living legend in the SHL. REDRAFT: Rebecca Montagne – 2034 TPE – DOWN 2 SPOTS In the redraft Montreal and Winnipeg make a draft/redraft swap of picks and I am sure both of them are happy to do so, or both keep their own goalies. You are really exchanging a tic for a tac at this point. Two amazing titans of their craft, both first round picks from the same draft year. 19.  Texas Renegades - Dirty Boots – 2008 TPE – DEFENSEThere is so much talent on defense that should have been picked up, I know the draft is a crap shoot, but still looking at it now, how does one who is this talented slip to 19th overall?! Dirt Boots has become a center piece for the Texas Renegades, and I am sure they are happy he fell this far. REDRAFT: Wendolene Ramsbottom – 1933 TPE – UP 5 SPOTS While losing out on Boots would have hurt the Renegades, gaining Ramsbottom would have been an acceptable replacement. Another franchise defender in this draft, somehow falling into the second round of the draft top earner could be arguably a steal of the draft as a second round pick that has better value than a few first rounders. A phenomenal find by the Argos becomes Winnipeg’s prize. 20.  Hamilton Steelhawks - Cup Noodle – 1524 TPE – DEFENSEI know there are no complaints from Hamilton in this selection, Noodle is a top 2 defender on almost any team in the league. He has done well and earned a ton of TPE in his time. This is excellent value with the last pick in the first round of this draft class. REDRAFT: Lenny Hawks – 1587 TPE – UP 10 SPOTS Still if we were to perfect this pick, Lenny gets the nod over Cup. Earning a little more TPE at this point in his career we see the biggest leap in draft position. I would say this is steal of the draft worthy, but his TPE is well below some of the others who made large leaps. Still a very good career for a top 2 defender. Round 2 21. Manhattan Rage ( -> -> ) - Vasily Arkhangelsky22. Manhattan Rage - Ignaz Pleyel23. Seattle Argonauts ( -> ) - Wendolene Ramsbottom24. Manhattan Rage ( -> -> ) - Brady Bertrand25. New England Wolfpack ( -> ) - Anzelms Krastins26. Minnesota Monarchs - Theo Berglund27. Chicago Syndicate - Stephan Gill28. Montreal Patriotes ( -> -> ) - Gordie Goodenough29. Atlanta Inferno - Alexander Mackenzie30. Philadelphia Forge - Lenny Hawk31. San Francisco Pride ( -> -> ) - Borje Samuelsson32. Montreal Patriotes ( -> ) - Marek Skoda33. Montreal Patriotes ( -> -> ) - Malach Skoda34. Manhattan Rage ( -> ) - Vin Bangsa-Wamy35. Manhattan Rage ( -> ) - Velky Muz36. San Francisco Pride ( -> -> -> ) - Ezra Wong37. Los Angeles Panthers ( -> -> ) - Ka Chow38. Texas Renegades ( -> ) - Kentaro Kikuchi39. Texas Renegades - Merlin Metzler40. Toronto North Stars ( -> -> -> ) - Lonley StaganClearly this was a phenomenal draft class, a ton of players became max earners 16 total, 2 franchise goalies were selected. The entire first round is still on SHL roster! Which is incredible. No centers were selected in the first round, none of them were reached 1500 TPE, perhaps Connor O’Byrne should have been he is the best center and currently sits as the 20th best active player from this draft.
