S72 PT#5: The Worst of All Possible Worlds

Player Prompt:

Winnipeg has been champions of crushing opponents before it all comes crashing down at the end. NOLA didn't stand a chance because FHM needs to be able to get our hopes up first. Winnipeg is the top TPE team in the league and has been for awhile, the regular season and playoffs have been pretty easy for us up until the finals. Chicago started the season real hot before coming back to reality and just barely losing first place in the conference to us, we have the momentum and TPE but not the sim luck so it could be close. This team has some of the best forwards in the league with LEG and Rashford and some of the best defenders in the league with me and Kinsinger. We know how to score goals and win games, we don't quite have the clutch gene unlocked after getting close and losing so many times but the cup has been ours to lose for the last few seasons and it's only a matter of time before we lift it.

It's finally playoff time, and the Edmonton Blizzard are in a position to make a real push at a cup for the first time. With last season's trial run going exactly as planned, ending in the Western Conference Finals against Winnipeg, the team expects more of the same, with a real chance to topple the top team in the West and make a run at the Challenge Cup. Led by an all-star caliber top line of Luke Laraque, Evan Winter, and Benjamin Surkhi-Ze'ev, the Blizzard aren't lacking in star power. Winter is hot off an MVP contending season, and the young Blizzard core drafted so many seasons ago is finally reaching their prime. The team is ready for anything, and ready to take the playoffs by storm. Sporting a top 3 offense and top 5 defense, there really aren't any weaknesses on this team, and with a little luck and a solid game plan, this could finally be the year the Blizzard bring the cup back home.

Player prompt:

We will go out on the ice as a force never before seen. We were absolutely dominant at home this season and look to continue the trend. With a top finish, only one team has the home ice advantage, and that's all we need. In the first round, we will come out against New Orleans in a structured attack with all three lines attacking evenly. With our defensive prowess and Becky in goal, we can quickly dispatch the Spectres. Our next opponent may be more difficult, but I have confidence that we can overcome them and get far in the playoffs once again. If we are good enough to get to the Finals once again, that's where we need to bulk up and take care of business. Getting bounced three seasons in a row in the Finals is no fun. This could be the year we take home the glory. Hopefully.. for my sanity. The universe needs to even it out.

Player Prompt

Why we are going to demolish our opposition simply because we are better than them. Now I don't mean simply better in the sense that we have more tpe, I mean everything about the team, from how it has been meticulously constructed through drafts and trades, consistently getting highly skilled players who mesh well together, all the way to figuring out which strategies work best for the current situation - leveraging both own teams skills, and the opponents weaknesses.
Everything about us is just better. It's why Philly hasn't missed a single playoffs I believe in their history, but definitely since I've been around. Not only have they not been missing, they have consistently been among the top teams in the league during this period as well. Winning in the playoffs is a special beast, simply having more skill on the team doesn't cut it. It takes a very particular set of skills, and Philly has proven to have it.

The Minnesota Monarchs did not make the cut this season for the playoffs, and that is alright! I know, Monarchs have been down in the standings for a long time, but I truly feel that the team has turned the corner and are almost at the point of compete. The team is tight and getting better every season. While it is disappointing to not make the playoffs, knowing the team is getting better and being apart of that turn around is a great feeling. Did we have a rough schedule at the end of the season? Sure, but that does not mean it was rigged against us. Maybe we'll get another high lottery pick and pick up a stud that helps speed things up? Regardless, I am not disappointed in the way this team is going and I am excited to be here. If we can building this tight core, we will be talking about finals before you know it.

PLAYER PROMPT

Chicago is about to annihilate their opposition because they've been underdogs all season long and time and time again have proven the league wrong. They passed their over for the casino half way through the season and even were the number one seed in the entire league for much of it. While they faltered down the stretch, their hot streak to start the season even made it so they were second place in the league until the last three games! The incredible Winnipeg managed to knock them down to third, but for a team that was 8th last season and only got worse in the offseason due to regression, this has been huge! No one has expected this team to really compete with the big dogs, but it has. They have a sneaky competitiveness about them and I think some teams are going to underestimate them and not really react to it until its too late. Underdogs for the season, underdogs to the finals!

Prompt: One for all

Listen is Nevada a sure thing to win it all this playoffs? No. However, Nevada has a better-than-nothing chance to win the playoffs. I mean you got Tommy Saws who is saucering the puck all over the place and is capable of scoring mad goals also. I mean he has been a Johnny Appleseed type but he isn't the only offensive threat. Alekks Ivonova has been tearing it up also with a smooth 95 points over the season, and the starting goalie has a nice 90% save percentage. Okay, that percentage isn't killer, but it isn't the worst. I mean that number four in the league. Not to mention that Nevada has the second-best penalty kill percentage in the league behind St. Louis and a penalty kill that is just outside the top five in the league by .1%. It isn't impossible to say that Nevada is capable of pulling this off. A lot has to go right, but that happens a lot. The offense will have to be firing, but Tommy can facilitate. Everyone else just has to up the game a smidge and it's over. Sadly we got a first-round bye.

Billy Herrington, that rookie forward over there for the Atlanta Inferno in the Simulation Hockey League (SHL), found himself in a pretty darn exciting situation as the playoffs crept closer. The Inferno had actually managed to sneak into the playoffs, and boy, were they feeling pumped up. So, here's the deal - Billy's team didn't just stumble into the playoffs by accident. Nope, they earned it. They put in the hours, worked their tails off, and played some solid hockey all season long. It was a real team effort, with Billy and his buddies clicking on the ice and forming some serious chemistry. Now, as those playoffs kicked off, Billy and the Inferno gang were feeling pretty confident. Their offense was clicking, the defense was holding it down, and the coaching staff had them all fired up. They knew it wouldn't be a walk in the park, but they were ready to take on anyone who dared to challenge them. So, there you have it. With their sights set on that championship, Billy and the Atlanta Inferno were gearing up to show the league what they were made of, one game at a time. It was gonna be a wild ride, and they were ready to roll.

Buffalo once again faces off against Montreal in the first round of the playoffs and it could not possibly be more in the bag. While some may point out that Buffalo enters as the lower seeded team and will be underdogs and not have the benefit of home ice advantage, let's not forget that this was exactly the same case as last year, and we all know what happened then. But for those who may have forgotten, Buffalo dispatched of Montreal with ease, sweeping them out of the playoffs behind a combination of balanced scoring and exceptional goaltending. Why would this year be any different? The usual suspects are all still there offensively, and Casey Fantobens is still between the pipes. Sure, Montreal was, once again, the better regular season, but playoffs are an entirely different beast, and Buffalo quite simply is built different when it comes playoff time. There is really only one possible hope for Montreal, and that would be if they had a literal Brick Wall in goal. What are the chances of that? (178 words)

Second prompt: You want me to sit here and further invite whatever curse has befallen the Winnipeg Aurora by bragging and gloating about how great we are and how we're going to smash the other team? That seems like asking for our woes to continue. Instead I will say that the other teams will underestimate us and assume we will just lose again, they will be too busy assuming the curse has continued to take us seriously and that is why we will win. And if we win we are going to do it in a very sportsmanlike way, we will not be publicly gloating or dunking on anybody, because we don't do that shit. We don't go out of our way to show people how much we hate them and we are rooting against them or anything, we just do our own thing and eventually it is going to pay off, so that's the real key here, persistence and not being assholes.
