S72 PT#5: The Worst of All Possible Worlds

Written Task: If your team made the playoffs, write 150+ words explaining why and how you're about to demolish your opposition. If your team made the playoffs and is eliminated in the first round before you complete this task, write it as if playoffs had not yet began and your outcome were still possible.
If your team did not make the playoffs, describe how your team got screwed out of a playoff spot: by scheduling, by the league, by the hockey gods/FHM, or by me personally - list not inclusive. Be as conspiratorial and paranoid as possible.
If your team was actively tanking, or you'd just prefer this option, write about how your team got screwed out of the best lottery odds.

This is easy, the Hamilton Steelhawks are the strongest and the best  team around. Why is that you ask? There’s one simple answer and I will tell you without any delay. I am the strongest and best around and that’s how it is. I am the strongest in the game. I am the best at fighting. I am the cutest. I am the best at defense, ask anyone. If you ask me, nobody has ever scored against me. When people look at me the cower in fear. Oh no is that the great and powerful Sven Panda? They ask. I answer them, yes, it is, cower before my might and I might have mercy on you. Never before in the world of hockey has anyone ever seen might like mine. I am what you might call, him. Once a man almost scored while I was on the ice, but I gave him the blue steel look and he dropped dead right there on the ice. Nobody could ever find evidence it was me but I say to you now it was I. I am still undefeated and will remain undefeated…. Wait we lost? oh

You never get screwed by luck, you're always affected by it. That's the thing about probability, Hoang understands. Since the start of his career, with his career with the snake-bitten Grizzlies, or the any-season-now Monarchs, it's been because of a few small decisions that slowly but surely butterfly into hundreds of changes in his life. So when people get down on themselves or on the team itself for the bad hand that's been dealt them, Hoang can only roll his eyes. It's a victim mentality that fosters unhealthy beliefs, as things in control of people have to be accounted for by those people. You have to understand that some things happen because other things happen, not because luck moves in one way or another. It's not a jedi-like denial of the concept - there is such a thing as luck - but a softer way of dealing with problems that come from luck.

I think Dominik is sick of being in space at this point and is suffering from some form of space psychosis. There is so much that has happened and it’s honestly a lot to keep track of when it comes to things happening over huge swathes of land, space, and everything in between. I think I would look to do some form of the Flash thing that happens where if he runs really fast in reverse direction of the way the earth spins, he’ll get to go back in time. In this case, it would just be a matter of skating really fast to make that happen rather than running. Of course, this would result in losing the friends that had been made in this strange timeline, but it would also save the world from the excessive gambling ads (at what point is it too many irl too because I think we’re there.). It’s a lesser of two evils thing for the overall universe.

Unfortunately, the Great Falls Grizzlies failed to make the post-season after another rough season - while the team held their own at home, the road record was lacklustre, to say the least. While it would be easy to blame travel distance (the team had to travel to Anchorage and Newfoundland many times, from the middle of the continent), it also showed that we're a relatively young team, and other teams took advantage of it. It seemed like there were many lapses in concentration and preparation, Levin included - probably from trying to pull too many pranks on one another. However, this was a transition year for the Grizzlies, as they had two young centres that were being brought up to speed in Jani Manty and Jae-ik Barron, and they showed good flashes in the later stages of the season. We can feel hopeful for a better showing next season, as the team's younger players gets one year older, and the scheduling is hopefully a bit more lenient to the Montana-based team.

Well I left this PT a little late and we did ultimately get knocked out of the playoffs, but you know what, we totally deserved the win. I mean, with the top tier forwards on our team with youthful energy, we should have been skating circles around the old folks over in Edmonton. Then when they come to LA, they won't be able to handle the heat since they're used to to the cold up North.

Our defense is still up and coming at this point but they're no slouches either. I mean we have one of the oldest players in the league so that experience has to count for something right? Lastly, in net we have a strong one two punch of two great goalies, one of which tied for the league lead in shutouts. Yes we may be a young team but we'll win the cup in no time.

Just... maybe ignore how these playoffs actually played out.

The Vancouver Whalers are a very good hockey team this season. We finished second in the league and sat just one point behind the Maine timber for first place. I think the whalers have a very good shot at winning the four star cup. They have a very deep and skilled roster including 4th and 5th best goal scorers, 3rd, 4th and 9th highest assist total and 3rd 7th and 9th most points. Our prowess doesn't end in the defensive zone either, Wednesday Addams led the league in highest plus minus with 73 and Vancouver had 4 other players in the top 10 of plus minus. And if you can get past the defense good luck getting past the stalwarts in between the pipes. Gunnar Seggi and Scary Jerry had the 2nd and 3rd lowest goals against average in the league. For these reasons I think the Vancouver Whalers have to be one of the favorites to walk away with a championship this season

Player Prompt:

THE FIX IS IN. Minnesota, after having rallied for most of the earlier part of the season (relative to the young talent on the roster at the moment anyways) were in the playoff picture with games in hand for most of the season. Things were not looking amazing, but they were looking alright, and there was a good chance the mons were going to get into the top 16 as long as they continued playing out the season as they had been. But then the league took over! Minnesota had to play all their catchup games near the end of the year, with more than ten back to back fixtures in a chunk right in the most critical time of the season. The league is already an uphill battle this year, with most of our in division rivals making up some of the most positive results this season, but to have our most critical time come with the not only crunch of catching up in games played, but to have to do it in an endless feeling string of back to back matchups against said top of league teams was cruel.

Player Prompt

How will we demolish other teams? thats a great question.  Every season feels like dejavu these days as we keep getting to the same spot and then crashing out, but this time? No, this time is different.  This time we are bringing Oh Henry's onto the bench, because everyone knows that you are not you when you are hungry.  Wait, maybe that is snickers.  Either way, WE NEED THE BOOST!  We are going full guns a blazing into each and every corner.  Ref touches the puck, hit them, treat anyone on the ice who isn't an Aurora player like the enemy and smash them into the boards.  Will it work? who knows, but at least the fans should love seeing the action.  But don't sit too close, there is a good chance that a few panes of glass will break during the course of playoffs and someone is surely to get a few pieces of glass in their skin

This is going to kind of sound stupid because I am not sure if the minors team I am on made the playoffs. I am pretty confident we did though because last I checked we were the top team in the minors level. So with that I am assuming we did make the playoffs. Our team is just far superior then the rest of the pack. With myself on the team as well I know on the offensive side of the puck we will have no issues when it comes to scoring. I am a second year player but I am playing like a natural veteran player. Our team is just faster, stronger, and overall better on all aspects of the game.... So I took a second to look at the standings and see we are fourth amongst the league in standings and still have to say we are going to win it all. With our team composition and the way we vibe together as a team, I feel like we just knock really well and know when to step up for the team especially during the playoffs in the season. We continue to strategize and grind our way to victory.
