Steiner's Cloudy Future
#1

Hello all!

Finally clawing his way out of the workload-driven grave and back onto the ice, the reanimated corpse of Adelbert Steiner has entered a most curious phase of his career. Undeniably he has sharpened up by means of long stalled development finally being applied to his craft since returning (read: left >200 tpe in the bank oops), but as his ghostly form on the ice was being used understandably as cap filler and bottom of rotation fodder for a team, the Seattle Argonauts, it leaves him with a curious question as to what comes next.

Undeniably, the still somewhat-young Season 71 Defender is just that, a defender. He's claimed that due to the grave dust and minor decomposition affecting his mobility, he's more than happy to sit at home and body those who would seek to advance on his teams net. Once he shakes off some of the weariness of the void and builds a bit of stamina he should already be a pretty solid defensive contributor. He's certainly not going to wow anyone as a ppg star or a dynamic two way player, but he hopes there's some space in the league still for an old fashioned brick wall on a defensive line.

So what's next for the recently returned Steiner? It looks as though there's a few options really. He's found himself on only a 1 year contract in Seattle, which makes sense, any playing time on the ice is appreciated ultimately. But, it stands to reason that this raises questions for him moving forward. Without being signed to a team for Season 75 and beyond, he stands at a crossroads with perhaps three distinct directions.

Option A, he could try and play his way into a longer term contract for Seattle. Undeniably, the team is at the start of a deep looking rebuild, and arguably Defenders are one of the areas they need less. Entering the middle-years of his career before the dreaded regression, it may be that he doesn't line up too well with the Argonauts plans regarding building to a more viable structure. Still, he appreciates the hosts for his corpse and is certainly open to a longer term deal to stay in the Northwest.

Option B, he tries to play his way to a contract with a different team in the off-season. This is looking like potentially the most likely route for Steiner to have a chance at seizing some form of glory within his stalled career. He has no clue who would want a slightly (literally and metaphorically) rusty defender on their roster, but surely there will be some spots on lines somewhere that need a steady hand. Once drafted to the New England Wolfpack, perhaps he will still contribute if he swaps coastlines and tries to give his original drafters some value? Just one hypothetical, but he's certainly open to any and all proposals from teams across the league.

Option C, reincarnation. It became clear to Steiner in the lands between our own and the endless void that reincarnation is a surprisingly viable option when it comes to professional hockey, who would have thought? Thankfully, he had actually missed less time in the grand scheme of things than he had assumed would be the case, so it isn't looking too necessary. But still, should no attractive prospective career path (or perhaps none at all, which wouldn't be too shocking) emerge for Steiner, it's good to know he can always cast himself off into the grand cosmic ballet to be reborn.

So, just throwing this out there to steal luke's 5m to raise some form of awareness that the once Inactive Free Agent is perhaps not so Inactive any more, and to post my hockey craigslist ad that I can throw myself in front of shots and occasionally hit someone for you should the need arise. Regardless of outcome, Steiner is happy to be hitting the ice once more and to contribute to any team it may boil down to, whether it's in Seattle or far afield. Thanks to all who contribute their hard work and free time to keeping leagues like this running!

Still lots of time to be an effective defender in the SHL and a decent current build means you will do well.

If you decide recreate all the best in the new player. Good luck either way.
