2a. I think that having so much representation from only 2 teams is a little detrimental to the overall health of the league since that leaves many teams with no All-Star representatives. I don't think it should be mandated that each team gets a representative, but I think a cap of 3 or 4 players from any single team would allow opportunities for stand out players on lesser teams to at least take some pride in an otherwise down year. (79 words, +1 TPE)

2c. Being still a junior player, I haven't had the pleasure of playing against any of these goalies, so I have to base my judgements on superficial criteria. Based on names alone, I have to go with the duo from the West to have the most fun. Gzregorz and Justin have the funnier names to me so I have to give them the nod here. Particularly Gzregorz who is forever the most Polish name I have ever seen. (77 words, +1 TPE)

4. I think that TPE does not matter as much in SMJHL All Star voting as compared to SHL. The 425 cap in the J insures that there is a pool of similarly progressed players at or near the cap who are doing the majority of point producing for each team. The primary differences in performance, in my opinion, are the quality of team and other players that determine who produces enough to get an Al Star nod. In the SHL, the gaps in TPE are much wider with no set cap and I believe that TPE does matter because the best players are vastly better than the middling players, so the cream of the crop don't have to rely as much on team performance and stellar teammates. Just like anything else, there are exceptions where a player has an unexpected breakout season, or plays a bigger role than their progression would suggest, but it appears to me that the majority of All Stars are top TPE earning players. (168 Words, +3 TPE)

GRAB BAG

Code:
A. Two teams, Edmonton and Los Angeles, tie with five total nods each. (60 Words)

It's a tricky line to straddle, because everyone wants to see their player make it, but at what point does being an all-star go from being the best to simply being a representative? I mean, I'm allowed to be mad about not making it, but if the committee thinks I'm not good enough, is it really my place to argue?

Code:
B. Why should YOUR player have made the all star game? (63 Words)

I just feel like it's a little fucking funny that a nominee for the Jeff Darr, the best two-way forward in the league, wasn't given the nod for an all-star appearance or a last man in vote, but I guess Patrice Bergeron only ever got three all-star nods despite being the NHL's best two-way forward for the better part of like two decades.

4. TPE TPE TPE (156 Words)

There is probably no real correlation between total TPE and getting an all-star nod. I mean, it's possible for a guy to get upwards of 2000 TPE but through strange utilization or just a lack of chemistry with linemates to result in a season that is worse than someone who has maybe 1600 TPE but with proper utilization and built-up chemistry between linemates. I *do* think that all-star nods are an obvious correlation to actual performance and that can have some correlation to total TPE earned, but I don't think there's enough data present to say whether or not that results in causation instead of just a strong correlation. There's a reason people still make the all-star game with significantly less TPE than some others who also get the nod.

The real question is, what's the correlation between foreign cars bought for the all-star committee and getting the nomination? There's your real conspiracy theory, fellow players.

1. Milestones, up to 3 TPE.

Milestones are folded in with All-Star Week.

Link your Milestone claim as task 1 for up to 3 TPE towards your 8 total.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------
Post your claim in the milestones thread for tpe earned per stat, and then link that post in your ASW submission. This is done because the person who grades ASW will be a different person than double-checks milestones.

2. Written, up to 4 TPE - Shiny Grab Bag: Pick up to 4 topics related to the All Star Game to write about! Each topic is worth 1 TPE. Each answer must be 50+ words.
a. Two teams, Edmonton and Los Angeles, tie with five total nods each. Both of those teams are in the West. Playoff rivalry aside, do you think it's to the West's advantage or disadvantage to have a relatively large number of players from the same two teams? Does it make the all-star game better or worse when this happens?
b. While the East rolled it back with two top defensive pairings - this year that means Philadelphia and Hamilton - the West mixed it up with only Los Angeles having two defensemen present. Everyone else has a new partner. Which side's defense are you more interested in watching?
c. While there aren't any new faces in net this season, which pair of goalies do you think is going to have more fun?
d. Why should YOUR player have made the all star game, and why should you be the last man in? (If your player did make the all star game, argue for one of your teammates instead!)

Code:
3. Written, 3 TPE, The Teammate One (150 words min.)

Tell me about your teammate who made the all star game! Who are they, why were they an obvious choice to make the All Star roster, and what do you expect from them this ASG? (If more than one of your teammates made the game, pick one of those players other than yourself. If you are the only player on your team selected for the all star game so far, write about your team's candidate for last man in instead.)

Brand new to the all star line up out of the Twin City Minnesota Monarchs we have Alexi Piastri this season! Piastri coming from the same class as Meta Knight has often played 2nd fiddle on in the line up, so seeing them finally get recognition for often being an obvious choice in previous seasons is what I'd like to high light here. Where Piastri lacks in goal and point, they've more often than not made up for it playing a Quarterback type of position by racking up assists and putting teammates into position to score goals of their own. With 66 assists alone this season(49 in S73 and 37 in S72), we see an upward trend in Alexi's game and somewhat of a breakout year that make him a slamdunk choice for an all star selection! Piastri may have lost the regular season fight(really 0/1 in fights), but the 66 assists and 94 combined points far make up for the loss and helped push him into a well earned all star game bid.
