Tell me about your teammate who made the all star game! Who are they, why were they an obvious choice to make the All Star roster, and what do you expect from them this ASG? (If more than one of your teammates made the game, pick one of those players other than yourself. If you are the only player on your team selected for the all star game so far, write about your team's candidate for last man in instead.)

Paul Bondage has made the SMJHL All Star team two years in a row now! While his tenure on Kelowna was unfortunately a bit uneventful in terms of playoff pushes, he is more than happy knowing he did his best to help his team out where he could, and these two nominations in a row proves just that. He knows he won't have a huge impact being called up to the SHL next season, he's not that naive, but competing in this All Star game does give him a boost of confidence that every hockey player should have. Aside from his own reasons and wants for being there, being able to represent Kelowna one last time is bitter sweet. Of course he would have liked to get a cup, or at least a strong playoff push with the team, but he loved every second while he was there. It's a locker room full of great individuals and he's honored to rock the Knight crest one last time.

I mean... look at that name. I can't even spell it without copying and pasting. If a player so much as even takes a look at Brzęczyszczykiewicz on the back of a jersey, they'll go straight into pure confusion and almost assuredly turn the puck over. Brzęczyszczykiewicz with the advantage all the way.

While Paul Bondage may have not been the most explosive offensive defenseman in the league, he led his team's defensemen in points by 14, as well as leading in shots blocked. He's willing to lay the body down to make that play and has a mean shot and keen offensive eye.

2(e). Despite a disappointing regular season, Kristian Seppanen should have made the all-star game John Scott style - not because he was the best player on his team, or in the league. Not because he was a particularly strong defender. But because he'd be fun to watch, and good for the league. A good leader, a fun personality, a silly guy overall. He would be a positive addition to the SHL All Star Game, and the game was missing his contributions. (+1 TPE)

9. Dear Atlanta Inferno Fans - It was an absolute pleasure playing for you this season, your energy, dedication and love for us and our beloved team are the inspiration we draw from each day to put our best effort in each game and leave everything out on the ice. I recognize that my season was not as we all hoped. From being ranked early-season as a possible Rookie of the Year finalist, to having an okay at best season, I want you to know that I'm putting my all in to having the best sophomore season I can. I've sat down with coach and GM hotdog to build an offseason training plan, and am working to find my place in this team as the best defenceman I can be. I want to wear the Inferno logo with pride, and be both a leader and player that kids, fans, and our team look up to. I look forward to getting back on the ice next season, and continuing our hard work to pursue a cup. (+3 TPE)

10. I honestly think most offensive goalie would be a sick award for the goalie who contributes the most offensively to their team - goals being weighted heavily, but assists also considered greatly. Aside from that, I think we need a best rookie defenceman and best rookie goalie award - I haven't actually looked into the stats, but what are the frequencies of defencemen and goalies winning the rookie of the year award? Does that hurt their hall of fame shots? I really only say this because I want more awards because I'm eager to have my sidebar crowded with awards and I'm disappointed that Finland didn't medal this season in IIHF after getting FHM'd hard, but like wouldn't it be nice to have more awards, and more recognition for players to encourage them to stick with things? I don't know, I think so I guess, and I think Kristian Seppanen would definitely agree after a disappointing rookie season, leading him to start his hopefully hall of fame career light on hardware. 10: Awards
I would love to see more awards added, or at least awards evened out between what the average forward is likely to win and the average defender is likely to win. As of right now, the chance of a forward getting an award is far higher than that of a defender. The most points, goals, etc are all nearly guaranteed to go towards a forward, with other awards skewing to their increased chances as well. I really don't know exactly what that is. It might not be a bad idea to distinguish the "League Point Leader" into two separate awards, one solely for Forwards, and the other for Defenders. It would also be neat to see a "defensive involvements award" incorporated into the league. It could combine some of the key aspects of defending into an award that could only be won by defenders (such as blocked shots, takeaways, corsi, hits, etc). Such a new metric could help evaluate the all-around presence of a defender whether the team they are on is good or bad.

2b Taking a look at the defenders that were available for selection, both players were easily the top choices in the mind of the GMs. Both are excellent all around options that can anchor a power play or penalty kill to go up against the elite of the SHL. I think it also shows the value that the GMs were placing on having a high octane offence on their all-star selection

2e Mikko Rashford used to be considered an all-star pretty consistently, but lately he's not exactly considered the star he once was, but that changed this past season as Rashford was given back the opportunities that he previously had amongst the SHLs greats in the league. and he ran with it, mounting one of his best seasons in ages and moving him back into the top 40 skaters int he league. Not too far off his teammate who was also selected for this seasons All-Star game

c) It is certainly difficult to disregard the clear advantage that having the presumptive MVP on a line would be in a head to head comparison like this. In this instance, while there are six incredible players involved and two very talented lines, it's hard not to immediately side with team WhiteFuzz given the presence of Viktor Hargreeves.

d. Grzegorz Brzęczyszczykiewicz and Sir Devoir are certainly two extremely deserving candidates and are a credit to the all-star festivities. However, the caveat with all-star games is that no one is really there for goaltending. Goalies know this and adjust their effort accordingly, which is why it's probably for the best that they're not out there pulling groins as they face odd-man rushes and breakaways due to the lack of defense.

Topic 4: 3 TPE

When it comes to all-star selections in sports, but especially an online sim league where performance, talent, and effort are not always intrinsically linked, separating players based on their deserving a nomination can be an incredibly difficult ordeal. Having to weigh factors like actual numbers, relative team strength, representing all of the league's teams, not to mention each voter having individual perspectives, biases, and preferences that will impact how they interpret the available statistics. I like the concept of drafting all-star teams versus selecting them all at once by conference because it inherently forces a more in-depth consideration of the available stars. It is less about filling out the teams to fill the roster and actually forces the selection committee to think about how they would best fill each slot on the team with what is available. To me, any exercise that forces a more conscious decision making process in determining league all-stars is a good change to make.

a. Honestly Montreal not having any players representing them wouldn't be an issue if other teams like Seattle or Edmonton didn't have an all star. Damien Hirano would have been the more deserving one in my opinion, he went through the full rebuild as the only active player, that has to count for something.

b. If you're only asking for defensemen who should have been picked earlier, there is a case Seamus should have gone later. He's still a good defenseman but no longer in his prime, I believe if you are taking this all star event seriously players like Filip Lund or Willow Söderberg-Snooks should have gone that spot.

d. I believe Sir Devoir is currently the best goalie in the SHL so team jRuke clearly has the advantage between the pipes. Let's assume the starters play 2 periods, that would explain why the backups have gone so late. It's usually the 1st and last period where the most action happen in an all star game. Base Pack is more than enough capable holding the fort for 20 minutes. Team jRuke clearly has the advantage in my opinion.

7. How can so many people be so wrong 2 TPE
I'm not a big fan of players voted in by users. It usually ends up being the same 3 or 4 teams telling their locker room to vote for __________ even though they should not being consider for the event at all. It's just a popularity contest at this point, I would let the committee choose those 4 spots and eliminate the fans vote. It was the case this season again with Philadelphia and Texas. No disrespect to Lasse Zeigler but what are we doing here? Barely above a point per game on a stack team is now all star material? There's like 8 more important players on the Renegades squad. It looks like I'm shitting on Zeigler but this is a young player who will make plenty off all star games but this shouldn't have been one. Graj Virrok was very deserving, I'm not too sure how a 100 point season didn't make the first cut.

b. Nash Topalo and Seamus O'Slapahan were only defencemen picked in top 10. Were they two best options this season? Should there have been more picked early on?

b. I think Philippe-Eko Eel is the best defenseman in the league. He should have been taken first overall, since he is the best defenseman for the team that I play for. So no, Topalo and O'Slapahan are not the two best options, Philippe-Eko is, and ideally you would clone him and have both PEEs on the same defensive pairing. I would have also picked more defensemen early on, making sure to get good ones. That's because they play more minutes than forwards and you'll get better value for your picks that way.

Quote:9. Written, 3 TPE, Players Tribune (150 words min.)
A popular format of media that has made a resurgence recently due to certain dedicated media writers, The Player's Tribune involves writing from your player's point of view in the 1st person. Write your Player's Tribune about your player's season. How do they feel about their results? Did they achieve their goals? Are they venting out frustration? Are there any moments of the season that were memorable?

I find it difficult to write from the first person in a sim league with such few words, so I'm going to summarise what the Tribune article would be like.

First, Jae-ik would make note of how happy he is to be playing in the best simulation hockey league there is. He’d talk about how much joy he experiences playing hockey, and how having good teammates helps him get accustomed to life in the SHL.

I think once he got to his play this season, he’d be pretty down about it. It wasn’t a colossally bad season for Jae-ik, but he holds himself to a high standard and prides himself on defensive ability. That he finished with just over 30 takeaways and 80+ giveaways would really grind his gears. Faceoffs were ok at 53.3%, especially for a player as young as he is and not really having familiarity with the tendencies of opposing centers.

I think he’d be most bullish about his play in the IIHF tournament. Canada is in the finals against Switzerland at the time that I’m writing this, and Jae-ik has not been a net negative for the team, which he’d be very grateful for. He has a lot to live up to given that his dad was inducted into the IIHF HOF.

Quote:10. Written, 3 TPE, Most Offensive Goalie (150 words min.)
The league has multiple awards, yet there is always room for improvement. What award would you add? Why that award and who it would be named after? Or which of the current awards would you change? How would you change it and why?

I know this is an easy question to answer for the NHL, because there’s a desperate need to split the Norris up or at least add an award to separate the best Offensive defenseman and best Defensive defenseman. But the SHL has that solved with the Stevens and Biscuit being separated, so that’s not it.

I think I’d mimic what the NHL does with the Hart and the Pearson: have separate awards for ‘Most Valuable to their Team’ and ‘Most Outstanding Season’.

One would be given to the player whose contributions their team could least do without. This would tend to be a player who is miles above their teammates in play.

The other would be given to the player who had the most statistically impressive season. So even if you have five absolute superstars on your team, you could still win the Outstanding award if you score ten goals more than the second best in the league. I also think that there’s a tendency to give the Ron Mexico to the player with the best stat line, and this would go some way to addressing that.

a. Which of the three Montreal players would have been best addition to either of the teams?
Okay, so if you've read my PTs in the past, you'll know that I'm all for representation in the All-Star rosters. But you're telling me there were not one, not two, but three Montreal players that were deemed "worthy" of being showcased during the All-Star weekend? The same amount of players as the Challenge Cup champions, the San Francisco Pride? We truly couldn't find anyone better in the nine other Eastern Conference rosters? Is that an out of season April Fools joke? Because my answer is - none. Zilch. They shouldn't even be here. Well, okay, one of them should be, for representation's sake - let's say, Damien Hirano. The other two? Ship them home with a box full of poutine and find me two better players.

c. Which of the teams could have better top line (center and two wingers), WhiteFuzz with Johnny Wagner-Svenson - Viktor Hargreeves - Antoine Beauregard or JRuke with Erik Bergmark - Derek Martin - Aksel Fiske? Why you think they are better?
I will go for Team WhiteFuzz, if only for the fact that my teammate (and MVP hopeful) Viktor Hargreeves is among their first line. Not only is he an offensive juggernaut, but he's also incredibly tough to beat on the defensive side of the ice. There's also a younger player that I really enjoy seeing play - even with the time zone difference between San Francisco and Tampa Bay - and that is Johnny Wagner-Svenson. I feel like it's only a matter of time before Tampa Bay explodes onto the forefront as Challenge Cup contenders, and his play is in no small part responsible for that gut feeling. He just needs to tighten up his backchecking skills, and he will be in MVP ballots in no time.

It has been an incredible season for Levin Schattenaxt, finally tasting the fruits of his labor as in their fourth consecutive playoff appearance, they have not only reached the Challenge Cup Finals, but won the Cup in five games against the Baltimore Platoon - their first in franchise history, no less! San Francisco's GMs and coaching team really made a push for the team to play to the best of its abilities throughout the season, and the veteran pieces that were acquired in the past two off-seasons have really shown their mettle, and helped calm down the nerves of the eager, younger players on the team. It was a complete team effort, and we couldn't be prouder of what this group has accomplished. After a few weeks of celebration and rest, Levin was back in action for the IIHF tournament, presented in Sweden this season. He and his Swiss teammates were the top team in the Round Robin, and made it all the way to a second Gold Medal Game in three seasons, but unfortunately, just like in S74, fell just short of the ultimate goal, and came back home with a Silver medal on their neck. It was still a commendable effort, and the team knows we are just a few steps away from bringing a second Gold medal to Switzerland. HOPP SCHWIZZ!

Well well well well well, that's 5 wells and that apprpriate amount when you take into account how many forge players were voted into the All star game this year. Welp, it's actually off by one, there was only 4 voted into the game. BUT, one very special player got through the original vote, and the draft when it came time to choose the All Star Teams. The one, the only, Graj Virrok. Yep, that Graj Virrok. Top 10 in goals league wide, top 10 in points league wide, broke the 100 point threshold. Graj scored more goals and earned more points than any other forge player, got the 3rd most assists on the team only behind Ricky and Cale. Wait, wait, wait, wait, wait. Was this as confusing for anybody else too? Because actually Graj is playing in the skills competition? How the? What the? This doesn't make any sense. Don't get me wrong, I love Cale and Base Pack. But a 100 point scorer not playing the ASG? Wow. Good Jorb All Star Committee.

Which of the current players, who were still active during the season 76 has achieved enough that they should make it to the Hall of Fame? Are they already unquestionable first ballot Hall of Famer? Are they still close enough to their prime to make their case better or are they already so far in their career that realistically they are just working on their total career numbers at this point?

Let's talk about a player on the Philly Forge who is still chipping away at their career over 14 years later. The longevity alone will make this player a first ballot hall of famer. Who are we talking about? The first pick ever by t the Forge. The one and only Evil Allbran. Standing at 6'0 and coming in at 230#, he's a offensive beast on the ice. He's amazingly never missed a single game, so that's 990 games and counting over the course of his career. More impressively though, he's been a 20 goal scorer for 11 of those 14 years, amassed over 100 points no less than 4 times in his career. He's only had one season where his +/- was a negative. He's had more than 30 assists in a season 12 times! He's the franchise leader in just about every category. This isn't even getting into his awards. He's won a Challenge cup, he won the Jay McDonald award that same year. He was another Jay McDonald two seasons later. He won the Ron Mexico MVP award that same season. 2 time 1st All Star Team, 1x 2nd All Star Team. What can't this guy do?

A teammate that certainly deserves to be talked about is none other than Song Ju-Gong or better known among his teammates in Québec City Citadelles as Ju-God thanks to his immense contributions in both the regular and in the playoffs. After all he was one of if not the most crucial player in QCC's campaing. Among many thing he was imense in shutouts. So much so that his numbers made him tied for second place among all goalies in the league. Granted he did not end up with the highest save percentage nor did he have the lowest goal agianst average but he was very consistent throughout the whole tournament. So it's safe to say he was very crucial and as i mentioned above the stats do back it up. Last but not least he is also the goalie with the most wins which is of course as much of a team archivement as a personal archivement but he still worked really hard for that archivement.

I do not think either team has an advantage on the other in terms of goalies, both starters are evenly matched and it's not like goalies matter that much. Likewise, I think backup goalies are an important part of a team throughout a season, however they will have minimal to no impact on the outcome of the all-star game.

the tampa bay barracuda had 2 players make the all star game yet again this season, and it was two of the usual suspects. both johnny wagner-svensson and benson fiorentini have been selected by team whitefuzz in the all star draft. these two players are probably the best selections to represent the barracuda as they lead the team year in and year out on offense. both players are incredible goal scorers, and fiorentini even won the jeff dar trophy just a few seasons ago as the league's best two-way player. i think johnny wagner-svensson is an amazing player because he has dominated the scoresheet his entire career, even as a lower tpe player. his build is all offense and no defense, and in a league like the shl, you don't see that much. its cool to see it pay off. and fiorentini has been an amazing add for the barracuda. he has been our best all around player since his acquisition and adam is an mazing part of the locker room (171 words)

i really like the new changes to the all star game. i think the all star team did a really good job at making the game more of a spectacle, with more to interact with and enjoy. just having the roster was cool, but being able to see the gms build their own rosters of stud players, while also releasing the lines and tactics to the rest of the site is a really awesome addition. giving the management responsibilities to last season's finalist gms is a good idea, if the gms dont mind a little extra work in the offseason. i like how the gms got to show off their own personality and have fun with the teams they built. team jruke's team tactics are pretty funny, looks like theyre trying to goon it up at the allstar game. exactly what i would expect from a guy like luke. it will be interesting to see how the game goes and i hope they continue with the format. 167 words

4. Written, 3 TPE, It is the draft season (150 words min.)
This season we saw huge changes on how All-Star teams were formed. How do you like the new draft format for all-star teams? Do you think it is good that committee picks the pool from which the players are drafter? Should there be more players from each team on the pool? Are last season cup finalists good picks for selecting the players?

I did not see how the last draft(s) took place, but overall I like how this one was done. A pool of players greatly narrows down who the gms have to consider (albeit meaning the committee has to do the narrowing themselves) and gives teams an equal number of players to represent themselves. I personally feel like a committee picks allows for less bias, even if it's unconscious bias, as they get to discuss who goes into the pool. Multiple committee members allows for this to happen which is great. A minimum of 7 different teams also allows for a larger number of team/player representation. Allowing for a 4th player from each team would be nice to allow for more people to have the chance to participate, however that leaves only half to be selected and half for the skills challenge. I do think it would be slightly better for that chance though. I believe it would make the all star draft a little more competitive.

(To note: I will be translating Elly's cat speak. ~kalix.  XD)

"I think my season was very mixed and from a play standpoint was very bad. I continue to train hard, play hard, and be the cutest, but my new chirper and growing social media presence distracted me from truly focusing this season. Spending more time on the ice isn't always the best as can be seen by my stats. More ice time, but also more giveaways and not as many power plays or overall good playing. Surely I won't be receiving as many headpats for this season and hope my cub siblings and family back home won't be too disappointed, let alone my fellow players."

"A memorable moment is getting selected for the WJC where I can redeem myself! I focus and commit to playing my best and not let my team down. I have many new fans, many more boops to give. This little Elly is not done on the ice. I will come back in future seasons and show you what these paws can do. And look cute doing it."
