S77 PT #2: Bigger, Better, Faster, Stronger Due: Sunday, June 23rd @ 11:59 PM PST

Quote:Your player has been chosen to undergo a player enhancement program à la Captain America in order to create the next super SHL player to make the league more entertaining for fans. How does your player gain their newfound abilities? What sort of superhuman abilities does this program give your player? What would be their peak TPE?

Imagine this.... youre on a darkness retreat. You're contemplating your next move in the SHL and what you will do when you come back to the light. As you shed all external distractions and embrace your journey of solitude, you realize you're incredibly bored. You're also only 6 minutes into your retreat. How did Aaron Rodgers actually do this? Not to worry, you brought some snacks with you..... now where were they? You can't see. You reach down, grab them and take a big bite. Unfortunately, you missed your snack and instead chewed a fungal treat. Moments later you find yourself in a psychadelic state.

You wake up 3 days later. You've changed. You've soiled yourself. You aren't hungry. But damn are you thirsty. The time has come....

You go to emerge and bam, you realize youve just blinked and travelled 10 yards instantly. WTF? You do it again.... and again. Yes. You have a new skill. Only a matter of time before you own the SHL with your new party trick. Now you see me, now you dont. Theres no stopping you as a defender.... you can only hope that youre out 11 yards or more. TPE? Who cares when you've got this skill set.

Written Option 2

Hugo Spycher is no stranger to being the underdog, and his ability to play under pressure and against elite competition has shone through that. Coming into the SMJHL late in S76, Spycher made an immediate impact for the Malamutes and this season has done the same. When matched up against players of similar or greater stature, Spycher grows rather than shrink. His intensity on the puck becomes more obvious, and the grittier physical side of his gameplay that is often nought to be seen is put full on display. During his first bout at the WJC this season, he got a lot of great experience against these players, and was a quintessential player in his team's progress through the tournament despite it. The next big checkpoint for this though will be an obvious one, with the ascension to the SHL being just over the horizon for this young star. Who knows what's to come!

Option 1:

There is only one way to earn that kind of power outside of the cartoons or movies. One. Single. Way. You are hopefully, by now, wondering what that method is. Pudding. Specifically my Pudding. It will unlock the virtually unlimited potential of the human body for hockey in ways never seen before. I do not even think it would be worth specifying what the theoretical TPE max would be under a pudding superhuman training program, but it would surely be in the trillions. No training program could ever surpass the mutant superhuman pudding training program. The only thing keeping this program from being developed and marketed to the general public is the pesky FDA. Silly regulations about toxic contents in food is standing in the way of helping humans, and specifically hockey players, unlocking their true potential. Think of the fun the fans would have if the players could fly, shoot lasers out of their eyes, and the bone crunching hits super speed and strength could generate?! There's nothing more exciting than a player getting hit so hard it shatters the glass. Now, that will be something every fan will have the pleasure of experiencing when they watch the game.

Written Option 1:

The Captain America enhancement theory is a good one but Elvar Gil-Galad was selected to go forward with the same procedure that Wolverine went through. His bones have been replaced by Adamantium. This incredible enhancement, though disturbingly painful to go through will enable Elvar to play without any form of equipment. This will allow him to play without the hinderance of bulky Goalie gear and lets him recover from shots taken very quickly. He will be a force in the net with lightning quick reflexes and the ability to move fast. His vision won't be blocked by a mask and so he will see all shots coming at him at all times from every angle. The best part of this enhancement will be that Elvar will not age the same as other players and in theory could play for 50 seasons absolutely destroying all Goalie records and making him a legend for all time in the SHL. No pain... no Gain

Written Option 2

Being a defenceman, the best party of my entire role is that there's always another one out there. So the second I'm outmatched, be it mentally, physically, skill wise, whatever it is I just pawn off the job of stopping them to the other guy. Then it can be his fault if we don't contain them. Doesn't matter who the partner is either. Hall of famer in their prime, rookie, old vet, I truly don't care. They can deal with it as long as I position myself on the ice in a way where it becomes their job to cover my guy. If I am caught in the unfortunate spot of having to hang with someone better than me, it comes down to playing dirty and trying to skirt the line between accidentally on purpose and full on head hunting. Really let them know that if they beat you on the rush, you're gonna try to break their hands. But in a way that the refs have a hard time seeing, like slashing them in a scrum. At least make them hesitate a little bit when they take you on.

When we watch hockey nowadays, we can see that players having a really good skating abilities with great hands are really hard to stop. Seeing Captain America physical aptitudes with a legitimate good hockey player, the result would be amazing.
So getting Acceleration, Agility, Balance, Speed, Stamina and Strength at 20 plus Passing, Puckhandling, Shooting Accuracy and Range at the max level is the "minimum".
After that other stats can be average at let's say 15. So Screening, Getting Open, O Read, Checking, Hitting, Positioning, Stickchecking, Shot Blocking, Faceoffs, D Read and Bravery.
That will leave Fighting and Aggression at 5, the minimum.
We now have something close to the perfection, but the cost of all this is 2700 tpe, something impossible to achieve. We have players pass de 2000 tpe, but not sure if someone passed the 2100? if not, the close to 700 tpe difference is enormous and I'm sure it would make an impact on the game.

The thing about going head to head with another player is there's always a way around them. If Louise St. Martin sees a bigger, more physical player headed her way, she will either deke them into next week, or turn on the jets, leaving that player to miss the hit and fly into the boards in a truly embarrassing moment (just ask Jacob Trouba). Brains, cleverness, and speed can outmatch sheer muscle. However, sometimes you go up against a player who is similar to you in terms of IQ and mobility, maybe not the most physical. The key here is to utilize your teammates, creating passing networks that slice and dice them like something out of Fruit Ninja (is that even still a thing). It really depends on the matchup on how to beat a certain player one v one, but there's many ways to get the job done and create a chance.

Option 2:

Well as matter of fact, Mac Turner, only in his 2nd season with the Toronto North Stars does get out-matched quite often actually. Well mac is used to this. He has been dealing with this for his whole hockey career. Mac was never that flashy first liner, scoring all the goals getting all the points. Mac really well has only been a grinder type player, plays more the physical game so getting outplayed by a more skillful opponent is common. But theres a simple rule mac follows, play the body, not the puckj. Sure you got handles but mac has got all 200 pounds of as he calls it 'Mac Daddy' to knock you into tomorrow. Of course, if somehow, they avoid Mac's body theres another rule Mac follows, or really I would call it routine, take a penalty. Mac coaches really dont like that second rule, no they really hate it.

Written Option 2: How does your player take on players who outmatch them in one way or another? How do they outplay an opponent more skillful? How do they win battles against a more physical opponent? Do they rely on their teammates to help them succeed? Or does your player have a secret weapon to take on anyone they come across?

A match between 2 players is as much a game of skill as it is a game of tactics, even if you are perfect at one way to pass somebody, if you keep using it again and again your opponents will be able to predict it and defend against it, except if you are one of the very very very few world class players who are able to do it this way. There are then 2 things left, One is keep doing small variation of the same move, so every single time there is a small deviation compared to the previous time, the other is do totally different things, so they can never predict what you will do. Furious Chicken has decided for the first one, often taking advantage of his strength to take the puck, but despite this sometimes he will also use that pesky stick, as it can be a handy tool in ice hockey when the bodyslam does not work.

OPTION 1
The world has seen hockey players with some exceptional skills, but they are mostly just related to skating, physicality, puck handling, accuracy, passing etc. But there haven't been too many players who just shoot the puck ridiculously hard. This is why the league wanted to have one player who can just absolutely hammer the puck. They chose Jaromir Jagrbomb for this secret program, because he had a fitting name for the task and SHL's marketing department saw the biggest monetizing potential in this selection. Jagrbomb was given a couple injections of some very safe and very legal substance, that gave him a huge boost in power. He was also given a set of customized sticks that are made to handle the extreme power without breaking. He can now shoot the puck roughly double the speed of an average SHLer. While he is tehcnically not more accurate than he was before, the sheer velocity gives goalies so little time to react, that his accuracy also basically goes up. So his rating for shooting range and accuracy are now both at 30.

Derek Martin needs very minimal enhancements to function well. Unlike Betzee Nickelback (@kahri) who's an old bag (albeit a lovely one) who can barely get up in the morning and would greatly benefit from some vigourous PEGing, Derek already has monster thighs and out of this world lower body and core strength. His hockey IQ and work ethic is unmatched, leaving only one thing to be changed : equipment. Whilst his adonis like body needs no work, there is a yet untapped potential in bioactive hockey gear. What if the camouflage capabilities of chameleons could be transferred to hockey gear, then Derek would be able to glide across the ice without being noticed, gaining the upperhand on the opponent. What if his helmet could hiss at the goalie and instill fear, alike what the Frilled Lizard can do, then would this guarantee goals every time Derek comes up alone in the offensive zone? There are clearly no guarantees here, but what is certain is that there is a lot of room for innovation, and Derek's body is already super perfect!

Well Doug Weight is already super human, so he underwent this procedure to make him "Captain America" just to see if it would do anything and how high the limits of a human could be. It took awhile, but eventually there was a noticeable difference. His Body didn't change at all, but all his skills and mental capacities were enhanced. He was able to think more clearly, not having to rely on mainstream media for anything anymore, he knew everything that was happening in the world and the actual truth right away. His teammates started to come to him for news. His hockey senses and skills were also so amazing, that he could play on his own against 5 opponents and easily dominate the competition. Maine actually started using him as a one man penalty kill and giving the other players 2 minutes to rest while he helped improve the PK
