Elly performed her best season yet as her last season in the juniors! this was very much expected and hoped for as not only being her last season, but since Elly was team captain as well. One of the best things a leader can do is lead by example, and Elly proved she has talent to do so. To be honest though, most playing would have done better than the season prior. All this being said, Elly hasn't even reached her potential yet and regression won't start for a bit. Going forward I expect even more improvement from Elly (within reason and limits of the system). She has just now been unbound in her TPE and can apply practically double what she already has. It would be nice seeing her be able to compete for different types of awards depending on what is out there. I as the owner of the player could use a little more work/dedication personally, because I act as a limiting factor on Elly at times. Elly intends to be the best team player she can, and her best seasons are still ahead of her. The only thing we can do now is watch and wait. (203 words. 4 TPE)

Looks like the New England Wolfpack came out on top in a wonderful 6:3 final game, as well as presenting themselves with the majority comeback of victories in a heated seven game series when the Renegades had them at the start. Based on a quick shot analysis the number of shots taken by Texas was inconsistent and reflected in their scoring and New England held a very solid defense. Keeping consistent pressure may have held better results for Texas, but further analysis would be needed. ( 86 words. 1 TPE)

5. Olof Karsikko stands miles ahead of the league these playoffs in goals saved above average at 19.76 while Anthony Dionne is actually in the negatives at -0.90. Do you think Texas is at a major goalie disadvantage? Why or why not?

I think advanced stats are a bunch of baloney so if I were a fan of the Texas Renegades I would not worry at all. If anything, I would feel good about having made it this far while under performing because eventually Anthony Dionne will progress to the mean and start playing better. A sizable chunk of his poor performance can be blamed on the defense in front of him as well. I think if the unit sorts themselves out just enough to be playing decently again, the Renegades have a strong chance to win the cup. On the flip side, Olof Karsikko has been absolutely standing on his head for the entire post season, really carrying the New England wolfpack on his back to the finals. I would be worried that he might regress to the mean and start allowing significantly more goals versus expected. This overperformance could actually end up costing New England, as they have been relying on goalie play and general defensive stoutness, but if that were to falter and the defense allows more shots and the goalie allows more goals, the could be in real trouble. Also in general, rating goalie play is overrated so I would not read too far into it.

the season’s wrapped up now, and overall i was killing it all year on the ice. wasn’t sure how things would pan out, but turns out, the old magic’s still strong apparently. my strength cannot be defined by numbers alone.

thinking ahead to next season. not slowing down at all. planning some new rituals, maybe even incorporate some mountain magic i picked up. might try mixing in some new herbs and bones i found during our hikes. there’s something about that crisp mountain air that just invigorates the soul. i know for a fact there's wizards here but i haven't found any.. bit annoying, but clearly i don't need their stupid potions anyways.

also got a few tricks up my sleeve for training. thinking about some high-altitude workouts. might even consult a few more spirits, see what wisdom they’ve got for the upcoming games. they have been so annoying lately, they just keep telling me to play baseball. they do not get it at all.

i'm thinking maybe some cold-weather voodoo too. the spirits are just as active in the snow as they are in the swamp, and i’ve been experimenting with that. snow rituals have their own vibe, something fierce and primal about them. the bones from my hikes have been showing some interesting patterns. they’re telling me something big is coming next season.

national rivalry? no contest. it’s all about crushing jefferson steelflex and his pathetic country. doesn’t matter who they are or where they come from, if they’ve got steelflex, they’re the enemy. never met a guy who’s more infuriating both on and off the ice. think he’s some kind of big shot, always throwing his weight around, and acting like he’s better than everyone else.

every time we go up against his team, it’s like a personal vendetta. their country’s flag might as well have a picture of his smug face on it. they embody everything annoying about hockey. it’s honestly embarrassing. every time we face off, i’m reminded of that first game where he tried to take me out. ever since then, it’s been a mission to show him and his country that we’re not backing down. not now, not ever. our rivalry fuels my game. i’m always looking for ways to outplay and outsmart him. this season, we’ll show them who’s boss.

I think that every year in the SHL using FHM is going to always be based on the builds of the players as well as the strategies used. For that reason, I will always take a team that has had continuous success in the finals over a team that did really well in the regular season. For one, even though testing is not allowed anymore, strategies can still be changed and implemented as the managers watch their teams play. Nothing against Texas’s managers, but I think Luke is probably one of the best general managers this league has ever seen, and for that reason I think New England will come out on top. Not to mention, Texas only had four more wins in the regular season than New England did, so it’s not like Texas was far and away the better regular season team anyway. Like I said, nothing against Texas and their managers, but Luke is just a different type of animal when it comes to managing and finding success with an already really good roster.

Though Ongo Gablogian is still playing in the SMJHL, I was actually extremely impressed with the season he had. His points totals skyrocketed both in the regular season and in the playoffs compared to previous seasons, and it’s actually great to see he’s not a complete bender like I thought. This is mostly thanks to the fact that he got some power play time this year, which he has never got in the past. The most impressive thing for me was that he was almost a point per game in the playoffs, finishing with 9 points in 11 games. Obviously I would’ve loved to have played in more games in the playoffs than just 11, but I’ll take what I can get with Ongo.

To be entirely honest, I couldn’t get into this season as much as I wanted to. I was the top dog this season, and while I did improve on most metrics, I never really excelled. I was a couple points higher this seasons than before, but I’ve hovered in the 45-50 point range since 350 all the way through 425. Eerily similar results. And I suppose put in the same role, one would expect similar results. Carolina didn’t do incredibly, and I wish we could have gone out on more of a bang, but being banked for so long really tanked my day-to-day interest. TPE is still coming in, and it was nice to apply 500 or something like that TPE, getting ready to fill a big role in Seattle. Got quite a bit of room until I peak, but I should enter the team as one of the core players, and I’m excited to see what kind of start I can put up for my hopefully long and illustrious career. If I can come into next season and have the same performance in the SHL as I have in the SMJHL, I would be thrilled. I have no idea how adding this much TPE will affect my player, and how that all plays in comparison to the much much higher TPA players in the SHL. In my experience in other leagues, 1000TPA, and especially like 1400TPA are the premier of the premier players, but being able to get up to like 2000 really shifts the scales.

After long last Minnesota managed to make their way to second round, but were not able to push further just yet. Since switching to FHM we have had multiple teams that have won the cup but there are still quite few teams that haven't been able to make it all the way. Baltimore, Calgary, Manhattan, Minnesota, Montreal, Tampa Bay and Toronto have not won the Challenge Cup during the FHM era, some have been close, but which one you think will be the next one to win and why do you pick them over the others?

Manhattan is loading up for a strong future. Obviously, Aksel Fiske is still around and doing well- as the elder statesman of the team by somehow more than just far- but he's got great young players coming up behind him: Betzee Nickelback, Austin Morley, Celeste Desjardins, Jaromir Jagrbomb, Roger Murdock, Mary Hollywood, Niclas Sundqvist, Jacppo Nummilavin, and Ylib Kove seem to be poised to become a force on the Simulation Hockey League stage. Obviously, a lot of these players are as yet unproven beyond a season or two in the SHL, but that's what time and development is for. With a couple more seasons worth of prospects, I think Manhattan is very much on track to be a Cup contender and maybe even a winner with the amount of buy in that they seem to be getting from their players at the moment. And it can't be understated how important it is to get that buy in from your players, or your rebuild efforts could all be for naught if they don't have faith in the plan for the team's future. These players are largely well-rounded and driven, with the ability to further develop their game and work together towards that ultimate goal.

Which team do you see as your main rival in either IIHF or WJC? Maybe it is the closest neighboring country or someone who you have met in the playoffs countless times? Andren performed exactly to expectations really. Not yet ready to take that next step and still stapled to the third line of the Panthers means that there wasn't much room for him to improve really. With almost the same goals, assists and hits total as last season, he's doing everything the young agitator is expected to do when it comes to being a dependable team player. He was almost too focused on keeping those point totals up and being an asset to the team as it took until the last few games of the season for him to get a fight in. When you consider he's been one of the most prolific fighters of his generation (or any generation really) that is definitely surprising.

Looking towards next season, Andren is going to be hopefully going back to his roots while still keeping up his point totals or even exceeding them. He wasn't even in consideration for the Turg last season and will be looking to fix that this upcoming season. More fights, more PIMs and more points as he takes the next step in being the leagues best agitator and fighter. There is a chance for him to solidify himself as a top six winger on the Panthers with his shiny new five season contract and he'll be looking to take that next step.

12. Written, 50 to 200+ words. Old Reliable IIHF Analysis

You know what I've learned after watching so many of the international tournaments? You never know what is going to happen. You could have the best team in the entire world and still lose to a group of upstart Irish or Latvians. It's just the nature of the tournament that means there is that random element to them. It's also what can make them more exciting then the full season of the regular league. Anything can happen and that is always a good time...especially when you're the one winning. That all being said, last season was definitely a disappointment for Sweden. On paper, a solid team with a real chance at the gold but in practice, they didn't even medal. Going forward this time, I think they'll improve on that. The offence has turned over with long time players being shunted out in favour of newer, younger players. Andren Akerson is looking to take that next step as well for team Sweden, as the aforementioned changing of the guard has left a spot on the second line wide open for him to slide into. All he's going to have to do is control that temper and not fight as much as he might want too.

I had a sneaky feeling that France is actually going to do much better than people are predicting. I am not that great at this analysis though and I didn’t even trust myself to pick them for predictions or fantasy. But I think they can easily make some noise in the playoff rounds. I expect Dunkler to get like 9 points and poor old Germany to lose round 1 of playoffs.

As a mostly impartial observer to the S77 challenge cup finals, Im crushed that Texas could not bring it home. It seems as though all the top tier teams have been playing so nicely together and letting each long suffering team finally get their crack at the cup. Feels like it all started back with Winnepeg finally bringing home a cup after so many near misses. Then it was Edmonton to finally slay the beast. LAP was also able to raise a banner, and SFP also completed to rebuild and brought the cup home. Poor Texas was the one team who suffered long under WPG’s dominance, and was so close to being able to write their story into the SHL history books.
If I had to pick a favorite part of that series, I guess it was just the fact that it went to a game seven is always exciting. I know if you were in the TEX locker room it wasn’t exciting, but there are just too many of us without a dog in the fight.
If Im TEX, there are only two choices left now. Completely blow it all up. Fire sale. Picks, cap dumps, the whole nine yards. Either that, or go complete depravity. Whatever it takes to get that cup. But no tamper. Bring in all the villains you can.

Goaltending can truly be one of the most vexing elements of the entire sport. Goalies that are consistently elite are the rarest of rare breeds, as even the very best tend to have peaks and valleys in their performance, and those valleys can last anywhere from weeks to an entire season. Karsikko certainly represents a pretty sizeable advantage in goal for the New England Wolfpack, with the caveat being that if his goals saved above average might be covering some holes in front of him on the ice. When it comes to a seven game series, and particularly one likely to be tight that comes down to the wire, single game performances can have outsized effects on the end result. As such, the goal for both teams should be to control the balance of scoring opportunities to mitigate the risk of variance in their goaltending as best as possible. You'd rather have the goalie playing out of his mind than not, though.

Task 6 (147 words):

I think the simple answer is that for a pack of wolves to take down a pack of renegade gunslingers, the renegades would have to fuck up pretty remarkably to offset the advantage they have in terms of firepower. A good outlaw is a quick draw, and considering that they probably run well coordinated bank heists together (they'd be hanged by now if they ran poorly coordinated bank heists), they'd have the communication skills and firearms necessary to quickly dispatch the oncoming wolves. If the wolves managed to execute a well organized sneak attack while most of the outlaws slept, they might be able to create enough mayhem to squeeze in a victory, but it's really hard to overlook the fact that the renegades have guns. Probably several guns. Each. And they'd probably have a lookout or two taking watch while the others slept. Overall, advantage outlaws.

Prompt 14: 200+ Words (+4 TPE)

It looks like the New England Wolfpack won which was not an outcome I think anyone was expecting as while they did have a chance they truly had to fight their way through the playoffs to get to the championship and win it all. In the first round they played Toronto winning 4-2 which is the one win everyone did expect them to get as they performed much better than Toronto throughout the season. But then they upset Buffalo 4-3 in the very next round which while they were close in standings was still surprising. They were evenly matched throughout the season with a 3-3 score line but Buffalo looked like the tougher team coming in. Then against all odds they took down the Forge who were the #1 ranked team going into the tournament and was the favorite for a lot of people. They did not beat them in a close race by any means they won in astounding fashion with a 4-1 series victory. Then there was only one team left the Texas Renegades who looked like a force to be reckoned with as well taking down the Pride and being the third best team going into the tournament. In what was a close series New England edged it out and pulled out a win.
