This new report is being published with excerpts from the purported diary of Gordon McFisherman, the young Left Winger and his amazing feat of playing in two places at once this summer. As the International break came about for S77, Gordon McFisherman had just been drafted by the Seattle Argonauts and learned that he had been called up not only to the British Isles team for the World Junior Championships, but also to the full Great Britain team for the IIHF Championship. How was our young hero going to coup with so much action in his first foray into the world of international hockey. Well let's go along and find out how it went.
Dateline: October 4th 2042 It's the first day of the IIHFC and Great Britain is playing against the Swedish team. This was a game that GB had to win if that had any hopes of squeaking into the playoffs again this year, where anything can happen. Team GB got off to the best start they could have hoped as only a little over 2 minutes into the game they were ahead on a goal by Patrice Bergeron. Their fans went crazy and it only got better from there as they double their lead before the end of the period on another Bergeron goal and in the end it was an easy 3-1 win for Team GB. But, how did our youngster do: "it was a good game for the team, and a good introduction for me into the international scene. Not a lot to do for me to do however, as I only had 3 shifts for 7:51 of icetime, But I was 100% at something as I won my only faceoff. I'll get them next time." Meanwhile, across some pond somewhere The Team of British Isles(BI) was starting the WJC on the same day against Team Czechia and what a barn burner it was. A bag and forth affair that saw the game go into overtime, with TotI coming out with a win. Our young star in the making had more impact as expected at the Junior level, with two goals and a productive 15:13 of ice time. "%@##$ Yeah, after that IIHF game the juniors game seems much smoother to play in. I can't believe, I not only scored my first ever goal, but I put two in, both to tie up the score. Man it feels good to get two wins in one day for the nation. Getting wins on opening night of both championships sure gets us on the right track to medal." Dateline October 8th, 2042 It's another day of double duty for Gordon McFisherman and once again both teams are in action. For team GB the day isn't as rosy as opening day of the championships. And for Gordon, it is one of his worst days as a professional so far. "Wow Canada is one great looking team. We were actually holding our own until midway through the 2nd period when Team Canada blitzed us with 3 goals in 2 minutes and we went down to a 6-3 loss. The little ice time I got, I did nothing with being a -1 and no other stats to speak of." However, the news was a little better across that metaphorical pond, where the junior BI was on a run that still had not stopped. "We are still unbeaten in this tournament. We took down Team World today 4-2 and all the team pulled together to get it done. O'Fink and Snow-Leopard had two goals a peice and we are rolling. I want to be like them." Dateline October 16th, 2042 It has now become a tale of two different tournaments. While Team BI continues on an undefeated roll whipping Team World 7-0, and Team GB slumps to under .500 for the first time in the tournament after a 2-0 loss to Team Japan. And even more special is that for a very short time young Gordon is the leader in Goals scored with 7 in the tournament. "I can't believe we are still undefeated and I feel like I am playing a big part in that. I can't believe I am on tops with 7 goals in my first international tournament, well if you don't count the IIFH going on at the same time. But, that is a good learning experience for me as I watch how the big boys do it. We couldn't score at all against that tough Japanese team. However, it put me in good form in the juniors and I bagged two goals in a 7-0 win against the World." Dateline October 27th, 2042 Team BI wraps up their round robin play in impressive form, finishing 10-1-1 and taking second place. They go into the medal rounds with all the confidence in the world for possibly bringing home a medal to The Isles. It is a rather quiet last game for our young hero. "I am so reved up, I can't believe we finished second in the whole round robin. It is now time to refresh as we look to our opponent in the first round of the medal hunt, Canada (Red). We can do this!!" Dateline October 29th 2042 Team GB ends the tournament with a win, but they can't secure a birth into the medal round. The 3-0 defeat of France leaves them looking in on the medals rounds on goal difference as Ireland qualifies with a +1 vs. a -3 for GB. And so our youngster is left with one final mission, Bring a WJC medal back to the Isles. "Well, that is all for the IIHF. It sure was a good first experience. It taught me what it means to be a professional hockey player in international waters. And I still have to concentrate on the WJC. I will be back." Dateline November 5th, 2042 "OMG, what just happened? We were on such a high. I really thought we had a chance and just like that we are out of the tournament. Another loss to a Canadian side and I am going home. Well, I vow that BI will be back and next time the story will be different and I will go home with a medal for me, my teamates and the whole of the British Isles." And so the saga of playing double duty has ended for young Gordon McFisherman. He got a lot of seasoning by playing in both teams. For GB he finished with 1G 2A for 3P and -4, and for BI was a better story of 7, 4, 11 +6. And now young McFisherman sails off into the sunset and flies back to defend the Citadel of Quebec City in the upcoming season. Watch out for this young up and coming LW. Code: Word count 1160 "
