In the early days of the Quebec City Citadelles, the main rival was Anchorage, as the two teams faced off in the playoffs what felt like every season including in a Four Star Cup final. But with the Armada's recent struggles for relevance and the natural churn of the J, QCC's rival has changed over time. I would argue right now that it is the Maine Timber or the Detroit Falcons. The Owls have had plenty of battles with those two sides in the postseason (including facing Detroit in one Four Star Cup final and Maine in two), and Maine has the added bonus of one of the closest teams geographically (along with Ottawa, who's too new to have any real beef with). In my opinion, the strongest rivalries are those that are born from competitive fire or geographical proximity, and since QCC is fairly isolated when it comes to the J it has to be forged in the flames of the battlefield.

Today I'm gonna be roasting the worst team in the league, just all around bad people. They've been on my mind since that one game, you know the one I'm talking about, the one that really kicked everything off in this new rivalry that only I know about, and now you do too.
I'm obviously talking about The Maine Timber. Now, You're probably saying to yourself "But, Djoe Anderson, what happened between you and the Quebec City Citadelles to make this such a heated rivalry?" Well it all started on glizzy gobblin night, in our home barn.
The Kelowna Knights had just rolled into town, ready to face off against us, the good guys of the league. Unbeknownst to us, they had cut off the supply of glizzies to the arena, we were short about 10 thousand of them, those rascally scarecrows! Why, we'll show the vancouver whalers who they're messing with!
We jumped into action with our sled dogs and chased those Newfoundland Berserkers right back where they came from, (East of the ottawa highlands)

In S60, two new franchises joined the SMJHL, the Great Falls Grizzlies and the Regina Elk. By default they are each overs greatest rivals, having similar experiences in the J throughout their existences. The only time that these teams met in the playoffs was the S66 first round, in which the Elk won in 5 games before losing to Quebec in 6 in round 2. Now, Great Falls did reach the finals in S63, but ran into the totally-not cloning Hamilton’s test system Newfoundland in the finals and predictably lost in 5. If you’re wondering, The Regina/Thunder Bay franchise has never appeared in the 4 star cup finals before, what a shame. Another fuel for the rivalry was the Now Thunder Bay Walleye not taking Mumei back in the S78 draft, allowing the Grizzlies to select Mumei at pick 24. The Walleye chose Chaos Giraffe instead who is still a solid pick, but is almost 20 TPE behind Mumei.

Well there isn't a lot of history but NBB has beef with SoCal. First it was the stinky Anaheim Outlaws but then they got folded or moved or something and now there's a new SoCal team. The San Diego Tidal. They are the closest team to Vegas and even though they are new to the league the rivalry has been fierce. Multiple times, riot police has had to be called into the stadium and full-scale brawls regularly happen before games. It's like England football hooliganism on steroids. The rivalry was especially heated in S76, the first playoff series between SDT and NBB. NBB dominantly won the series 4-1. It was unfortunate that the teams didn't meet for the S78 playoffs but thats fine. There used to be a rivalry with QCC. but that expansion is so far in the past that NBB fans don't really care about QCC anymore.

the anchorage armada have always been rivals with the vancouver whalers. it's a pretty simple reason why - the whalers are the closest team to the armada (being in alaska is tough guys). the rivalry has been around since the armada were in prince george (formerly the firebirds) - it was a fiery (hahaha) rivalry that was between two british columbia teams, but took on a new meaning when the armada relocated to anchorage. becoming a team that represents boats angered the whalers, who already kind of represented boats. but the armada represent bigger and cooler boats that blow their tiny little whaling vessels out of the water, and the whalers got really insecure about it and started getting mad. this season the rivals have yet to meet, but with anchorage riding high at second in the league and the whalers struggling in thirteenth, the tables have turned from last year, and it could get spicy. people could argue that anchorage were rivals with quebec at some point, and we kind of did care, but we do not care anymore. it's always been vancouver, and quebec was the side chick for a little bit.

It’s funny as someone who has been away for a while but also been around way too long to think about SMJHL rivalries. My last player was in QCC, and like Valpix alluded, Anchorage-QCC was the rivalry at the time. I honestly have no idea what would be the answer now, so I’d have to defer to Val’s judgement and say, yeah, Detroit and Maine sound great.

Detroit is a funny one, of course, because my very first player was a Falcon, and I certainly had a healthy but unfortunate history with Maine’s predecessors in Halifax as the Falcons and Raiders met in the postseason both seasons I was in Detroit. Of course, the fiercest Detroit rivalry at that time was Montreal … which drafted my second player … and is now Carolina ... when I'm from Carolina. So it’s really hard to hate any of those teams, personally, the circle of life and all that. I desperately need an excuse to hate one of the newer teams like Ottawa.

My player has a personal rivalry with the Nevada Battleborn for personal reasons. Toasty had hoped to be drafted to the team after promising pre draft discussions with their scout. There are no hard feelings, but Toasty feels the need to prove to the Battleborn that the made the wrong decision in the long run.
The two teams haven’t played since Toasty was drafted, but the player has November 29 circled on his personal calendar as a game he wants to be fully prepared for.
So far, Toasty’s season has shown promise but it hasn’t quite been to the level he had hoped compared to other rookies. While he currently leads his team in points, he has yet to prove that his fall to the third round of the S79 Draft was a mistake. He hopes to use smaller motivations, like this healthy personal rivalry with Nevada, to rise his rookie stock and push his game forward.

For the Maine Timber, our biggest rival has got to be the Newfound Berserkers. This rivalry brewed from the fact that the Timber had lost 11 straight playoff series to the Berserkers, and has not let up since. Timber used to have a Chop command where it would post a gif where the Newfound logo is on a tree and the tree is chopped down. Also the only reason that gif isn't as prominent anymore is that the fact that the old SHL not no longer works. I think I still remember being in one of the playoff series that they lost to the Berserkers with my previous player, but my memory may be fuzzy.

Also when Met finally beat Newfound after so many losses it was a sweep in the finals, plus a win in S73 for a cup. Plus, Newfound and Maine are close to each other so there is also the regional rivalry in there. Overall, the bitterness in this rivalry is stewed in both playoff history and regional bias.

One of the biggest rivals for the Whalers, although there isn't really any, is the Kelowna Knights. The Whalers and Knights played over 4 times against each other in past playoffs and seem to be regularly fighting for a higher spot in the standings as every day the two teams go up and down trying to get ahead of the other.
The past times when they fought in the playoffs were S56, 58, 59, and 63, and while those were a while ago these teams have always battled for higher positions and often found themselves facing each other in crucial games. Currently the Whalers and Knights are locked together in 12 and 13 places, fighting to get higher. Who knows, at the end of this season, these two fierce playoff rivals may find themselves matched up together, once again battling for the cup like they have done many times before.

The team thats my biggest rival is The Quebec City Citadelles and its full on a personal beef. It got nothing with the team itself to do but the logo. or maybe the name.
Most teams have a logo that fits well to the team name, but not the Qubecs. They got an Owl thats supossed to fit to the name. And in my onesided brain that doesent ad up. Where does the owl come from?
Sure there could be an owl living in a Citadelle somewhere or at some point in history. But isnt that a little far fetched?
If the logo had been of some majestic old building, like the City of Gondor or even the Castle of Örebro I would not care one bit. But an Owl. It makes me fuming.
Or better up. Change the name to Quebec City Owls. Or something in that area. City birds, Quebec flying rats, Quebec.
But nooo Its gonna be Quebec City Citadelles with an owl as logo..
And this, this makes me want to nail'em in to the board and se the team in the lower half of the standings makes me a little happy

The Ottawa Highlanders… where do I even begin. Earl Biggins biggest nemesis Hotdog Lunch. The guys a plug to say the least. Don’t forget about their GM who supports the disrespect of hotdogs by steaming them. Yeah not grilling or microwaving them, STEAMING them. Absolutely atrocious.

Earl and Hotdog were really good friends once upon a time. But just one argument about Earl microwaving a hotdog for a quick and convenient protein snack and it has ruined their friendship. Earl cannot understand why anyone would want to wait 10 mins for a hotdog to cook when such an invention exists like the microwave, I mean come on.

On top of that before the draft, the GM of the Highlnders reached out to Earl and he thought it might have been a fit before he brought up hotdogs and he was instantly turned off and once he found out the GM of Yukon knew the GM of the Highlanders he knew exactly what he needed to do.

Join the Malumutes and make Hotdog Lunch and the GM pay for their crimes against Hotdogs.

Having been in the SHL for only about six weeks now, it's hard to claim that any team is my rival. But if I had to pick a team, I'll pick the St. Louis Scarecrows. The Scarecrows were kind enough to pick up Barcus Juneau as a DFA shortly after he joined the league, right at the end of S77. Juneau was able to get into the postseaon, and even helped St. Louis to an upset first-round win over the heavily favoured Nevada Battleborn. When Barcus left before the draft, it was on friendly terms, and that clearly makes this a friendly rivalry.

But deep in the heart of every hockey player who leaves one team for another, there lives a burning desire to prove he or she is better off on the new team, not deserving of having been cast off, no matter what the circumstances. And so it was that Barcus had circled on his calendar a first match-up between Anchorage and St. Louis in S78. Every player loves to win a hockey game, but Barcus had an extra bounce in his step as he left the arena that day, his two assists having helped the Armada defeat his previous team.

To be honest I used to think the Knights biggest rival was the Whalers since those 2 are easily the most successful all time but I don't think it works like that. I have no clue who team wise we are rivals with so I will just do mine.

I imagine some minors teams expect me to just hate them but if they're bad in users I just don't care about the pointless team. No only 1 is the main focus:

The Vancouver Whalers.

Used to be the captain before they traded me 5 years back without telling me, all to get a 2nd rounder who was instantly inactive. It was fun to see the downfall. Nowadays nothing is changed, I still do not like them. Granted if I am honest, I have no clue how they did whilst I have been in majors and it really won't matter to me if they weirdly 3-peated whilst I wasn't here but they're still the worst.

Don't worry, I won't go full PBE on them but I do not like anything about them now.
