Well that's a wrap for S79 and boy was it a doozy. I just wanted to say congrats to Maine. We will be coming for you guys next season you have my promise.
Boy did the Mutes have a hell of a Regular season and an awesome deep playoff run. There was a lot that went into the success of the Mutes between the goaltending, Defense, and Offense. These boys really put on their big boy pants and went to work this season. With so much success we can almost assume the coming seasons will be fantastic. But lets dive a little deeper and see where all this success came from. Yukon Malamutes S79 34-24-8 76 PTS .576 W% / GF 216 GA 205 +11 DIFF / PP% 19.9% PK% 78.2% The Mutes had an above average season. Compared to what was expected by the rookie fueled team it was an amazing season to have for the young players. But much needed improvement is for sure in the works. our Goals for needs improvement which we should see an uptick next season for sure. With players like Hugo Spycher and Chuck Lumbermouth both scoring 30+ goals they should see improvement with their current deployment and others will drastically improve around them as well. The Goals Against for sure needs improvement with the Mutes sitting 14/16 in GA improvements are absolutely needed in this category to ensure wins are getting secured. Defense needs to improve in their zone. Players like Earl Biggins and James Hogan come to mind with their -13 +/- rating. But with their hard minutes they played each night and deployment in tough situations its hard for a rookie like Earl Biggins to take on such an important role. Goaltending was solid and shall remain solid and see a much needed improvement due to the guys in front of them getting better in the Dzone. PP% needs to improve sitting at 12th/16 and PK% needs slight improvement as well sitting middle of the pack 8th/16. The next three years are looking huge for the Mutes. Chemistry is improving and the guys are doing nothing but getting better and working to step up their games to help the team all the way to another deep playoff run. GO MUTES Jakub Alexa - G GP 31 / W 17 / L 8 / OTL 3 / SAV 961 / GA 87 / GAA 3.05 / SV% 0.917% Not much can be said about Jakub who came in clutch for the Mutes and fueled their attack in the second half of the season. With an incredible stat line on a defensively struggling team. He led the league with a 0.917 Save %. Needless to say he did his job and improvements in front of him we should see an improvement in his game. Hugo Spycher - LW GP 66 / G 37 / A 25 / PTS 62 Hugo was a Hugo reason to the Mutes success. Being the leading point getter on the team with 62 points on the team in the regular season. He is one of many reasons to why the mutes had the run they had this season. Expect him to get better as the players around him progress into full fledged SMJHL players. Djoe Anderson GP 66 / G 19 / A 40 / PTS 59 For a rookie season 59 PTS in 66 games is one hell of an achievement. Another important player to the teams success. Showing off a lot of playmaking skill through out the reg Expect Anderson to keep taking on important roles with the club with a veteran like mindset they will be an important asset to the team as everyone develops around them. Chuck Lumbermouth GP 66 / G 33 / A 26 / PTS 59 Chuckie has shown he can put the puck in the net with the right people around him. Having someone like Anderson by your side assisting on many of the goals is a huge bonus to both of them. Chuck was fighting for a spot in the rookie points leaders and was so close. A couple more seasons in the SMJHL and we could see a possible 50+ goal scorer in the mix and looking to compete for leader in scoring if Chuck keeps it up. Christina Fantobens GP 66 / G 17 / A 38 / PTS 55 Christina has shown she can be clutch and extremely reliable when the team needs her most. Her regular season was stellar but she really shined in the Playoffs with 27 PTS in 19 games played. She has shown she can put the team on her back and fight for a championship when the time is needed. Tying for goals in the post season is an amazing feet for anyone. Expect her to develop into a dangerous player in the coming seasons. Earl Biggins Regular season - GP 66 / G 10 / A 26 / PTS 36 Playoffs - GP 19 / G 6 / A 11 / PTS 17 Earl has shown he can compete at a high level no doubt. Leading the team in points on the blue line he has shown he can be a huge asset on the back end for the Mutes. Coming into the league as a no1 draft pick is a scary feeling and would overwhelm many people but he did not seem to let it affect his game. The only downside to his game is he needs to improve defensively for everyone around him. He seems to be a bit of a reliability in the defensive zone per his stats but when you are playing important minutes for a rookie it is to be expected and that will progress over time. Earl seemed to really shine through come playoff time where he almost was a PPG player. He has shown he can be a threat in both ends but mainly on the offensive side. Expect him to develop into an all around player with a huge uptick in scoring and points as the seasons progress. He has also shown he can compete at a high level with a lot on his shoulders. Expect him to drastically improve next season. These are some of the many players on the Mutes who have been a huge part of their success. Just because some were not mentioned here does not mean they had incredible seasons. Expect the Mutes to be huge threats next season and the seasons after. MAINE we are coming for you.
