S79 PT #0: Drafting Some Leadership Due: Sunday, October 13th @ 11:59 PM PST

Rip thunderdome 2013-2023 is now entering what is his sixth season in the simulation hockey league with the eastern conference’s tampa bay barracuda. It feels crazy that rip thunderdome can already be considered a vet in the league, and on his own team now, as players age out and the new guard of the league takes shape. Rip thunderdome is not the type to show leadership through speeches or inspiring words, instead, rip thunderdome leads by example on and off the ice. This offseason, rip thunderdome did not go on vacation or take a break from training at all. He grinded on the ice all summer, working on his shot from the point and his defensive positioning. He would be on the ice at 5AM every day and would be the first one there. Off the ice, rip thunderdome has begun leading prayer circles in order to show respects to the thunderdome, which has helped his teammates bond

Grindle knew he was getting the call immediately, through scheming and plotting to find out what would happen but also because hes simply that much of a star. To most it was a huge honor and an opportunity they couldn’t pass up, but for grindle it was tuesday.

He went ALL OUT, adding his own flair to the announcement. He walked up to the podium wearing a custom suit that had his cool wolf logo all over it, with a sick pair of sunglasses on for extra style. As he approached the mic, he kept the crowd in suspense with a dramatic pause before calling out the name of the first pick.

Grindle, get the name wrong? thats not him. hes perfection personified. He did it masterfully, almost too good. Everyone in the crowd clapped for how good he did it. It was memorable how well he did it because he's just that much of a talented freak of nature.

Task 2:

Hip Hurts was surprised to be named captain of the Nevada Battleborn during his rookie season, but since then he has tried to live up to that leadership role and be a good presence in the locker room. He has found that a lot of that can be accomplished by even the little things, like being the first one out to practice, setting an example and being crazy dedicated to the weight room, or even just being extra welcoming to the new junior players, since he himself knows how nerve wracking it can be to be in a completely new city with brand new teammates. Hurts has also started to pour over a ton of film from the league last season, and looking for ways to exploit the other J teams as well as ways to improve the Battleborn, which he shares with the players and coaching staff alike. By far his most valuable leadership contribution however is sharing poor fantasy football advice with the rest of the team.

Big Sweg has never been a leader in the sense of actually leading people. What he is however is a leader when it comes to ideas and innovations. He is always there to help his fellow teammates however and when management asks him for help or for ideas when it comes to team activities or improvements for the team facilities he is very helpful.
This was the case this season where management has seen issues in how the team is putting on muscles, they are not improving in the strength area at the rate which is needed to be a powerful team in the physical game.

Big Sweg obviously had the answer to this. The boys and gals of the team aren't eating enough to build muscle. Too many people out there is telling you to stop eating protein to save the earth. But this is no way to build muscle. So the answer is clear.

All you can eat buffet.

Sad Ketchup tends to just keep to himself in the offseason, but one thing he does do is he likes to attend the draft happenings and meet the latest draft picks that join the organization. Sad Ketchup joins the Chicago Syndicate management at the draft table and has enjoys doing it. Sad Ketchup always says he likes to be there because he was once a young lad getting draft and wants to share that experience and excitement. It also helps keep Sad Ketchup to be engaged in the team and process and make him excited for the next upcoming season. He also goes to training camp early and helps the coaches prepare and assists anyone else who decided to arrive early to training camp. This allows Sad Ketchup to get himself ready early since he enjoys being prepared and does not like to start badly, so arriving early helps. One day maybe Sad Ketchup could wear a letter but for now he focuses on himself and little things.

Elena is definitely not the kind of person who will say a speech before an important game but she will say something when she feels her teammates aren't giving it their all. She has a lot of respect for the game and especially the fans and thinks it's important to leave everything on the ice no matter what. She doesn't speak a lot so when she does, her words have meaning to her teammates. However, she prefers to lead by example by practicing what she preaches every night on the ice. She was getting discouraged that her hard work wasn't really paying off but she kept believing she could make a difference by playing responsibly defensively or at least try to create something on the offense. She kept working hard and this season was finally rewarded both individually and with the rest of her teammates. It goes to show that hard work does indeed pay off even if sometimes it takes a while.

Ubba Lodbrok, former center for the Anchorage Armada of the Simulation Major Junior Hockey League, current third line center and 4th year player for the Philadelphia Forge in the Simulation Hockey League has been given this season's honor for announcing their first round pick. Ubba is flabbergasted as to why the management chose him to announce the pick. Luckily he didn't have to actually decide who to pick, as he would have probably flubbed that one as well. So, he knew it was going to be one of 3 players chosen this season at the draft. Seeing as the Forge picked 11th overall, and the top 8 were mostly locked in as to who was going to be picked. So he spent the better part of a week prepping with his teammates and more specifically his roommate to Leonard Wood to help him get the pronunciation correct and not look like a fool at the draft and on live TV, and more importantly to not mess up this draft picks big moment of getting drafted into the show. He nailed it.

First off they would be fools to have my player announce the first pick of the draft. I barely know my own teammates names and you want me to say the name of some other person I've never met? But let's just say they prepped me well and the person's name is something simple like Joe Smith. Can't mess that up right? Wrong? I'd like to welcome Smoe Jith to the team! Then throw a slice of cheese on his face like they do to cats or babies or whatnot. It's never too early to show who the alpha is right?

Just kidding! I would study hard to make sure I remember their name and pronounce it correctly. Slowly walk up to the lectern and go "with the first pick of the draft the New England wolfpack pick Joe Smith" and stand there deadpan. Can't get in trouble for doing exactly what they want right?

Even though Clarence is going into his third season and is one of the older hands by this stage, he is still uncomfortable with taking any kind of leadership or mentoring role. He would rather lead by example and focus on himself. If someone needs a kind word or a bit of motivation then he would definitely do his part but he definitely doesn't go above and beyond to do this. But by improving himself and putting in the work during the off-season, which he has been doing, then maybe the newer players will see that. His only real mindset is that it's not where you start but where you finish. He shows up to training camp in shape and ready to go rather then wasting time getting back into shape. He does his best to be a good teammate and do his role and what the team asks of him. Stats are irrelevant to him and hoisting a cup is his only goal, and hopes newer arrivals feel the same.

MattyJ would love to announce our draft pick. He would accept the invitation with grace and as a sign of respect from the team. He would practice and practice in order to not become a meme on the internet. He wouldn’t make his speech too long, because that’s annoying for the fans. MattyJ would likely go with a simple, what’s up Blizzard fans, with the last pick of the 1st round, the Edmonton Blizzard select (blank). MattyJ is a simple player. He is not over the top and this speech would be no different.

There is once concern for the team though. If MattyJ did not like the pick, there is a good chance he changes it on the fly. That is a risk that our general managers have to take. If the wanted a forward, but I thought we needed defense. A quick switcharoo would be necessary.  They should still let me announce though.

Option 1

Dag-Otto would happily accept the honor of announcing Tampa's first pick in the upcoming draft. It's not something he ever thought he'd be asked to do. But he still remembers the evening of his own draft. Being picked fifth overall was a feeling he'd never felt before. Without hesitation he accepted the quest his GM had just posted to him.

Dag-Otto isn't yet sure how he will approach the event or the specific announcement. He has a couple ideas, though. Perhaps he'll embrace his nationality and announce it in Swedish, confusing everybody, before doing it in English. Perhaps hire a local celebrity to do part of the announcement. Although that'd have to be someone who publicly support the team. Otherwise it'll just look like a PR stunt. Perhaps he'll sing a song...? Maybe not, but he has a lot of time to think about it. Hopefully he can made the future draftee as excited and amazed as he did himself.

RIP Dangel. See you on the other side, brother

Pork Tenderloin is one of the longer tenured veterans still on the New England Wolfpack. He and Seamus O'Slapahan are both leaders in the defensive core and have had numerous challenges over the seasons while mentoring the younger players on the staff. Whether that be leading team skates or making calls on the ice to get people in the right position. Pork is the one who had led Troy McClure to be the great defenseman he is today. His mentorship and guidance have grown the young rookie into a solid SHL defenseman in the short time they've been together on the ice. Pork also takes time to put the team first by organizing events and team outings to keep them relaxed during the regular season while also building chemistry and bringing them closer together. Spending time with your guys is the best way to ensure that you will be able to find each other on the ice to connect for some great plays.
