S79 PT #1: All Of The Lights Due: Sunday, October 20th @ 11:59 PM PST

prompt 1:

Oh no no, you see the misunderstanding is that mr. Hlemýžď is the GM. And of course, as a poverty franchise only occupying the probably single most iconic arena in the entirety of the SHL, the GM himself has started on his new exciting role of the building manager and had to go and replace all of the bulbs himself. I suppose it's an interesting way to practice your hand eye coordination and stability, on top of a shaky ladder with a bunch of (surprisingly expensive) LED bulbs in a box, but to be honest, it's more just the latest round of penny pinching necessary to afford staying in the MSG as Manhattan's performance last week has been shocking, and the fans are making them feel it with their wallets. If this season doesn't pick up soon, god knows what stupid saving measures will be needed to keep the team afloat and financially stable while facing an evergrowing disatisfaction from the fanbase that therefore refuses to put their butts into the seats, and more importantly, buy the extremely overpriced beer in the concession.

Edouard Lavoie hates mid-game media discussions. He is happy to give reputable sports journalists his time, but only when it is appropriate. He feels that as he's coming off the ice and heading to the dressing room, he wants to get locked in with his team's plan for the next period rather than spending valuable time chatting about his mentality with a reporter. He does his best to avoid these mid-game interviews, letting his teammates take the spotlight while he would rather focus on the game itself and making sure he is prepared and performing to the best of his ability. He also wants to work with his line mates and the defenseman to ensure everyone is on the same page and ready to go to try to win the game. Once the game is over and the team has some time to reflect and outside of training time, Edouard is happy to speak to the media and give them insight to the process, but during a game he has only one focus.

Same as always: do not make a fuss, answer everything as requested and display professionalism. Just like it is a player's job to play, a journalist has to report on things and you should naturally respond in kind. Now, of course, that means having to deal with some racier questions but I believe Sunrise van de Schubbekutteveen is quite capable of handling any bizarre question if necessary with enough tact and flair.

Honestly, the most curious thing it will be for him to deal with is figuring out how to handle the questions about his off-season since this was the first time in a while he did not do anything too useful and just rested out during his free time. Like how do you explain you just spent your resting time kicking back and cooling off when you are a player known for taking the time to go help his father's village out? Bit odd.

Well, considering the circumstances, I think it only fair to assume that Olivija Agate, the jokester that she can occasionally be, decided to say too many "how many __ does it take to change a lightbulb" jokes, and so in turn, the GM has decided that the joke has now become "how many lightbulbs does it take to change the joke structure"? It was a clever comeback that Agate simply had to respect. And so one by one, she will change all of the lightbulbs. She was actually pretty pumped to drive around one of the arena's scissor lifts, and she was also excited to answer that age old question, and I think we can firmly agree on the fact that it takes one Latvian woman to change all of the lightbulbs in an arena, but many hypotheses have yet to be tested, so we'll just have to keep asking the important questions!

Grindle has always been a bit of a prankster, a little scoundrel so to speak. A few days before opening night, he swapped the GM’s car keys with a rubber duck during a team meeting. The guy was pissed, he spent like 20 minutes looking for them, it was hilarious. So, when the new law requiring all the stadium lights to be changed to LED bulbs was signed, the GM decided to teach Grindle a lesson by making it his job to replace every bulb over the weekend. Just unbelievable.

Grindle, never one to back down, did it better than anyone had ever seen before. He arrived at the stadium in a custom suit, hard hat, and harness, ready to turn the punishment into a show. He live-streamed the entire process, turning it into a fun event for his fans. By the end, Grindle completed the job with style, and the GM begrudgingly admired his effort.

Wizard is looking to not be in much of the spotlight this season as he has traveled from Chicago to Calgary in the offseason while Wizard has benefitted from the new environment its not exactly something that makes it so he wants more eyes on him after wanting out of a previous organization. Wizard however has interacted with the media recently as he does like the Calgary crowd as they gave him a big welcome back when he first entered and his first press conference with the team actually went really well despite Wizards dislike for the whole procedure as talking in front of a lot of people tends to not be his specialty. However the one thing Wizard hates more than talking to the general media is sponsorship deals as he believes it is just players selling out when they don't need to. All of these players in the SHL make around 1 million a season or over that and it feels a bit odd for the need for more money.

He upset his GM by starting a fight over punctuation in the locker room. When all was said and done, he came back and took his punishment. However, he feels like he was singled out for the punishment when he did not escalate the conflict. But for the sake of team harmony, Clarence went to his task without anymore argument. But what they didn't know is that he has experience working on traffic signals. So after he changed all the LEDs, he also altered the wiring and programming. So rather than the arena being illuminated, it's just constantly blinking. This caused a few injuries to fans during opening night. Players have struggled to score goals in the arena due to the lighting problem. The Highlanders have adjusted to only really play when the light is on and pause when they go off. It's a much slower game but they are having success. They will think twice before mocking him again.

Written Option 1: Just before opening night a new law gets signed that requires every light on the stadium to be changed to led bulbs. And it just so happens that your player had angered the GM only few days ago so they do the only reasonable thing and make it your players job to change the bulbs, over the weekend. What did your player do to anger the GM? Was it intentional, accident, did they get framed or is it just a misunderstanding? How does your player perform the task? Or do they just outright refuse? [111 words]

Ottawa Highlanders were having a post game cookout, like we normally would do after a stretch of games. Now our General Manager is very particular when it comes to the way we cook our hotdogs for these cookouts, but I was running a bit late from getting out of the shower after the game. So I threw all the dogs into a large pot of water and boiled them so people wouldn't be waiting. When the GM found out that I did not use stream like they prefer, I was put on light bulb duty. I really don't mind having to replace the light bulbs; some may see it as a punishment, but I am just improving my home barn for the fans. Plus LED lights are better for than environment compared to older technologies. The nice thing about these lights is we can actually dim them before the games when, before the lights were not able to be dimmed so everyone could see us waddle out to the benches and onto the ice. Now we can interlace the music to the lights and focus on certain spots for those goofy between the period bits they run. [318 words]

Jiggle E Puff was made for the spotlight. His father, Wiggle E. Tuff, was a star in the Kanto Hockey League (KHL), so Jiggle grew up around many famous Pokémon hockey players. As Jiggle was making his way through the Poke Junior Hockey Divisions, he caught the eye of Mew Two, a fairly successful player in the Simulation Hockey League, and thus he was mentored by someone who knew how to handle the spotlight for Pokemon hockey players in the human world. Jiggle E Puff is extremely comfortable doing media interviews and PR appearances, because on top of this mentoring he is a pop star in the Pokémon world, performing sold out concerts every offseason. Jiggle loves the media attention and really thrives in it. The Atlanta Inferno appreciate Jiggle's attitude towards the media, because he helps take the spotlight off of some of the other players on the team who don't enjoy talking to the media.

Written Option 1:

So I have no idea what got the GM to be so pissed off but I guess whatever it was, I did it. To say I'm upset about having to come in on my last weekend off before the season starts to put in some lightbulbs is a bit of an understatement. So I've decided that I'm not going to go the professional route but just show the organization just how much I appreciate what they are making me do. So I spent my weekend installing LED lights but only half and they don't do what they are told to do. Some stay on, others flash and blink and some flicker and fade out. At random times during the games the lights will turn on and flash an obscene gesture. I don't care if kids are in attendance, this is what the team gets for making me come in on my last weekend off because of something stupid.

Written Option 2:

The SMJHL season got underway and there was a new player in the town of Anchorage. After a massive draft day trade the Anchorage squad brought in former Colorado Raptors center Zeus Storm. Immediately upon arrival the Anchorage media were hounding Zeus to get his thoughts on the trade and how he feels like he would fit in with Anchorage. That media coverage hasn't stopped as Zeus is still finding out how to play with his new Anchorage teammates. This has been a cause of some discontent with the coaching staff as Zeus feels he was brought in to be the top line center and be on the top power play unit but it did not start out that way. After some behind closed doors pleasantries being discussed between Zeus and the coaching staff he found himself playing more in the role he was seeking. However there are new rumors that Zeus is still not happy in Anchorage and has all but shutout the coaching staff from his contacts on all non-game days. This has led to rampant trade speculation and the media is having a field day with this painting a negative picture of Zeus while simultaneously speculating where he could end up. This is a media dream if we are being honest!

Option 2:

Jeremy definitely would have eaten the general manager, as well as a few of the players on the team, if he was made to change all of the lightbulbs. Like, probably at practice one day, Jeremy would be sitting there and just minding his own business, and one of the players would have stepped on his tail, and Jeremy would have eaten him to show him a lesson, and then the GM would have gotten mad, so Jeremy would eat him too. Although, that said, I don't think that the manager would actually make Jeremy change any of the lightbulbs, because to be fair, Jeremy would most likely just consume him and put him back into the pocket dimension that exists inside of his stomach. Instead, Jeremy might be the vessel that is expected to dispose of all of the other lightbulbs. I think that they would want Jeremy to help out in some way, and asking Jeremy to eat all of the light bulbs would definitely be something that he would be able to do.

I think Dominik has been a part of the marketing material for the Pride since he got drafted, but it’s definitely gotten more prominent since they won the Cup. He was a strong contributor in that run and that really got him as an important part of the team’s materials for season ticket holders and ads for the team. It’s not something he’s the biggest fan of as Dominik always likes to stress that it is a team game first and foremost and being in the spotlight isn’t the best. He’s a good sport of course, and certainly isn’t an asshole to the folks who run the social media and things like that. He tries to do his part and is happy to deliver season tickets by knocking on the doors and things like that, he just doesn’t like when ads are made and they focus on him rather than focusing on the team as a whole.

Written Option 2:

In reference to the ‘what if’ I wrote some time ago about Walbilly Koala, where he became a mean trash reality TV star, I think Walbilly would really enjoy talking to the media and being central to Carolina Kraken’s marketing campaigns.

While not nearly as snobby as he would be in that alternate reality, Walbilly Koala would portray himself as a loveable little bugger with mischievous tendencies and adoration for food. Because food is what made the koala sentient, most prospect sponsorships would be centered around food. If White Castle (the origin place of the animal-awakening food) sponsored Carolina Kraken because of Walbilly, he’d be ecstatic.

People associate koalas with eucalyptus and laziness, which is why Walbilly would be quite newsworthy and easy to market around- because he is the opposite of that. He’s rowdy, active, and mostly carnivorous! Not only that, but he is a solid rookie who was even nominated for the most underrated player!
