S79 PT #2: Person's Best Friend Due: Sunday, October 27th @ 11:59 PM PST

Option 2

There are many important staff members in an SHL organization. Many people on the outside look at the GM, the owner, and the head coach, but they don't realize the tremendous amount of work done behind the scenes by staff who may not directly contribute to the game-day, on-ice product. For me personally, the top people on this list are the trainers, nutritionists, and cooks. I know I just said "number one," but this is more like a top three of number ones. Without our cooks and nutritionists, we wouldn’t have the best meals to properly fuel our bodies or the right nutrients and proteins to ensure we're at the top of our game every day. And how could one forget the trainers? Hockey is a physical sport with many bumps, bruises, broken bones, and strained muscles after each game, month after month. Our trainers provide the best physiotherapy and preventative care needed to keep us playing day after day.

I would say the most important non coaching staff member would be equipment managers because they manage the players equipment and leave the players to focus more on the game not on handling sticks etc. but all other staff members are also important like personal trainers making sure all players are fit to play and are in the best states. then there are plenty more staff members making sure the team is doing all good and also of course everyone there is at least somewhat part of the team meaning they could effect morale etc since they are also human persons who the team interacts with and could help with like problems in the teams what aren't on ice related et cetera so i would say no matter the role every staff member matters to the team and without them it wouldn't be the same without them so thats that everyone is important.

While morale is already very high in Tampa Bay, a team can never have enough good vibes in the locker room. Coming so close to a championship last season, Tampa has been trying to figure out something to push them over the edge to hopefully end the longest championship drought in the SHL. In order to give the team that little extra boost, team ownership has decided to get the team a pet that will travel with them on the road and be at the arena on home game days. The pet they got is a dog, a Portuguese Water Dog to be exact. Portuguese Water Dogs are excellent swimmers and will do well to represent this aquatic team. The Tampa Bay Barracuda are well known for their team chant “chomp chomp water dog”, and what animal could be better to be the team’s pet than a literal water dog. This is a match made in heaven.

Answering for Option 1:

Indeed! Teddy Bloos comes up with this marvelous idea to get the Thunder Bay Walleye a rally pet! A team animal! Many teams in the SHL and SMJHL and in leagues across the sim league universe have adopted a rally pet, typically a dog. So, Teddy Bloos coordinates with a local animal agency and manages to get a team rally dog!

Now, the typical rally dog is like, I guess a golden retriever breed? Something along the lines of those moderately big but super friendly doggos. Well, for whatever reason, the Thunder Bay Walleye are assigned a sad chihuahua instead. It definitely was a surprise to be sure, but the team has welcomed the sad chihuahua with open arms. It has basically become the talk of the town among hockey fans in the town of Thunder Bay, but just like the players, they're embracing it. In fact, a lot of regional news networks have picked up on the story, and are holding a contest to name this sad chihuahua

Written Option 2

The most important non coach members of the staff for Barca are the physio therapists and personal trainers. This group clearely love their jobs because they get to work with high performing athletes day in and day out. Clients who will follow their direction and are able to work at a very high capacity. I think anyone going into those fields dream of getting clientele like this. Their attitude shows through because they are always so positive and try to make sure that the players overall enjoy the work, even if they are dealing with something nasty and painful. The personal trainers are all well educated and have an interest as well. They take care to work on the specific important muscles and are careful to avoid over bulking. Too many muscles and you lose speed and flexibility which could be devastating for a season. The players are all at different levels, so they all get individual plans which keeps the older players focused on the right things.

The best non coach member though is Nathaniel's personal chef. He pays for this luxury himself, the team doesn't cover it, but having someone in charge of nutrition and shopping and cooking gives him the ability to focus on the game during the season.

Option 1

The mascot of the Tampa Bay Barracuda is, obviously, a barracuda fish. But unfortunately they haven't come up with a good idea to host and manage and actual fish in the arena. Until now...

The idea is simple, but genius. You might already have concluded what I'm talking about. Since what exists there of in massive amounts in a hockey arena? Ice! And what is ice made of? Water! So the perfect idea of where the team will be housing their barracudas will be under the ice! The plan is to make the ice layer much thicker than before. Probably a couple of feet. And then melt the bottom half of the ice, allowing it to turn back to water. Which in turn the team mascot(s) can live in!

As a bonus we'll be training the fish to snap at the opposing goalie during games. And have the floor of the visiting team's bench be see-through. Distracting them all when the game is playing.

Option 2

The most important non coaching staff for Henri Losanov at the moment is his psychologist. For goalies, the mental aspect of the game plays a huge part and it is something Henri still has a lot to work on. Allowing a bad goal will happen, it's how you bounce back that separates an elite goaltender to a mediocre one. Those talk really help Henri, the stress that comes with the job and how to handle it. His dad was a former hockey player, he's also someone he can rely to and ask advices. His personal trainer is also the most important individual during the off season. He's the one helping Losanov to get ready and improve. At first, Henri wasn't the biggest fan of Serge. He was used to take it easy when the season was done and practice other sports. But once you make it in the SMJHL, it's a whole 11 months grind.

Prompt 2:
Yeah, On the outside to many it appears it is just the players, head coach and GM running the ship. But the truth the actual truth is that it takes a village to run a hockey team. Fans do not see the behind the scenes work that goes into the on ice production. There are scouts at games around the world looking for players to sign, draft, ad trade for to make this team better. There is the video review and statistics room to analyze plays, review bad calls, do all  of that work. The athletic trainers are there with the players every game every practise on the plane to make sure they are in the best shape they can be. The equipment managers are there every game and practise as well, to make sure all the sticks, skates are to the tuning just as the players likes. As I said it takes a village.

Option 1

We all know that NL has a team pet, the same one for years now, a Chihuahua with a wig in a sweater. He's not very friendly and always seems sad but we love him anyway. Instead of dog food he lives exclusively off ice cream. The legendary gif that started NL owing this sad creature is famous throughout the league. With sad Chihuahua emotes in general chat, our team pet has certainly made waves. I wonder how many sim league discords have at least one sad Chihuahua emote. He doesn't like to go outside so we barely have to walk him, he mostly just sits around and holds up signs. Honorable mentions to ugly the cat, NL's backup pet. He's not actually Milo he's a different cat named ugly, who is ugly. No one really likes ugly, we mostly just tolerate his existence and feed him because we feel bad, mostly because of how ugly he is.

Prompt #1

It was pretty straight forward that San Francisco would end up with a lion as their team animal being the Pride and all. Coming off the hype of the hippo Moo Deng, the San Francisco owner thought it would be a great investment for the team to pay for an expansion of the lion habitat at the San Francisco zoo and have a similar vibe going. Sotacleb, the lion cub, quickly took the internet by storm and was the morale boost that the team needed for sure! Live streams would show what young Sotacleb was up to and it wasn't long before the players were posting were posting the #WinForSotacleb hashtags and giving it their all for everyone's favourite zoo addition. Of course, it's not as practical as a team dog or something since Sotacleb can't join the team at practices or in the arena for the games themselves but the spirit is enough to keep the team pushing for a strong finish through the second half of the season!

Written Option 1:

The Knights would probably go for an animal that can protect those in need and be an overall great being with a big heart.
I'd say a dog, maybe a German Shepherd would fit this criteria. A fitting name would be Lancelot.

Lancelot would be around during recreation and tactics meetings (well as long as he can stay quiet during them haha). They would be a mixture of emotional companion, playing buddy, cuddle friend and so much more.

Maybe we can buy him a little suit of dog armor so that he looks the piece.

Another idea would be a glorious hamster. Those can always pnuch above their size and would look hilarious in a little suit of armor.

Anythings but cats really, those are too devious and evil to be an honorable knightly companion. They would probably rather stav you in the back, the moment they feel like the Maine Timber would feed them more Tuna than you.

For Billy Herrington, his sports psychologist, Dr. Van Darkholme, has become an invaluable part of his support team. Managing the highs and lows of an SHL season takes serious mental resilience, and Dr. Darkholme has been instrumental in helping Billy stay centered, focused, and adaptable. Known for his intense, yet empathetic approach, Dr. Darkholme understands the unique pressures hockey players face, and he’s got the skills to help Billy handle them head-on. Their sessions are a mix of practical strategies and mindset coaching, focusing on everything from stress management to game-day focus. Before important matchups, Dr. Darkholme helps Billy with visualization techniques, guiding him to imagine successful plays and to prepare for any scenarios that might throw him off. Breathing exercises are another major part of their pre-game routine, allowing Billy to channel his energy where it matters most on the ice. Thanks to Dr. Darkholme, Billy has developed a level-headedness that keeps him steady through even the toughest games. Outside of performance coaching, Dr. Darkholme provides Billy with an open space to discuss the unique emotional aspects of his career—from handling media scrutiny to the personal drive to push for the playoffs. Their professional relationship has grown into a deep trust, with Billy’s gratitude clear as he constantly credits Dr. Darkholme for his progress, both on and off the ice. It’s this combination of practical guidance and strong support that makes Dr. Darkholme so essential to Billy’s routine, helping him stay sharp, resilient, and ready for the challenges ahead each season.
