Deep Dive #2 - The Colorado Raptors

The Colorado Raptors are potentially the greatest team in the Simulation Major Junior Hockey League. This is due to sound drafting by General Managers Takk and Fishy. Most notably, their pick of Enlightened Centrist, was seen as a steal unanimously by anyone that knows anything. In this deep dive, I will first go through their most recent entry draft, before covering the whole team.
at 2nd overall, a pick originally belonging to the San Diego Tidal, the Colorado Raptors drafted Rocky Gislason. At the moment, Gislason is an offense first center, at the top of his class. There isnt much else you can ask for with a 2nd overall pick, as this usually comes with high expectations, it is clear to see that Gislason is set to surpass them. Rocky Gislasons first season brought him 49 points in 66 games, 17 goals, 32 assists. at 7th overall, perhaps their best pick of the draft (it is clear to see), the Raptors selected Enlightened Centrist. Enlightened Centrist plays like an enlightened center. Enlightened in the sense that he is like the buddha. Enlightened on how to play the sport of hockey. This is to say, that he is a complete two way player. Great on offense, great on defense, great body, great mind. Enlightened Centrist had 42 points in 66 games, 16 goals and 26 assists. An adequate comparison for this would be like combining Aragorn, Elrond, Gandalf and Tom Bombadil. The pick immediately after, the Colorado Raptors selected rookie Tiny Princess. This would be their first defenseman of the draft. Tiny Princess is a towering turkish defenseman, also a two way player. It is clear to see that the raptors are looking to play a strong two way game, without lacking on either offense or defense. Tiny Princess had 40 points in 66 games, 5 goals and 35 assists. Next, we must go all the way to the third round, where the Raptors selected goaltender Meowlnir Kittenson. There honestly isnt ever much to say about goaltenders, but one look at Meowlnir tells you that he is more concerned with what goes on within his crease more than anything outside. Meowlnir Kittenson was a highlight for the raptors, finishing with 18 wins in 38 games, a save percentage of 908, and a goals against average of 3.59. At first, this may seem like nothing special, but Meowlnir led the league in a very large margin for Goals Saved Above Average at 21.92. What does this stat exactly mean? I am not sure. But what I do know is this Raptor will be winning the award for the top goaltender (titled the Aleksandr Aleksandrov award). Meowlnir also led the league in save percentage. Now, how exactly do these players fit in? The Raptors stand to lose a great deal of players over the next season, and its hard to see how long it will take for the team to e competitive again at a dominant pace. The raptors will lose 6 capped players, with one of them being at defense. This is where Princess will look to fit in the future. However, the Raptors will end up losing a total of FIVE capped forwards. The raptors will most likely look to shore up their forwards in the coming draft.
