Opt 2:

Roquefort Cotswold would immediately accept the opportunity to cast for another sport without knowing anything about it. In fact, he already has done this! Sometimes grabbing someone off the couch can actually result in great casting as you are offered a unique view into a sport. There is a level of raw curiosity and excitement that you only get when experiencing something new to you. Out of character I have actually casted a bunch of times for the ISFL (american football) but I have never casted before for the SSL (soccer/not american football lol). I really want to try it. I don't know much about the sport beyond the surface level knowledge I picked up playing it as a little kid. I would not really be able to describe the positions or the strategy of the game in an informed way but I bet I'd have a lot of fun seeing the players score and trying to build off that energy. Definitely something I'd love to try and intend to with this upcoming season.

OPTION 2:

When the offer to join the broadcasting team at ESPN 8 the Ocho for an event, I jumped at it. It is a bit of a retirement dream of myself to be able to join a broadcasting group when I retire. I figured a warmup practice with an over the weekend event made a lot of sense. I forgot to ask what the event was for, but I was an athlete as a child and new the rules for most sporting events, I could wing it for almost any event and still produce. I was sure of it.

I was wrong, while I had been a part of many leagues, across many sports. I had no knowledge of Cricket, let alone a cross dressing lingerie league. I walked in and stood their dumbfounded as my brain tried to process what I had just agreed too. How would I approach it, what would I say, how is his junk going to stay inside that tiny banana hammock while running around? NO FOCUS!

Once the event kicked off I had a ball. It was like a full on drag show, lights, music, dancing. Between each batter another preform came on and had a show. The field danced to the songs as if they were back up dancers. They came onto the broadcast booth and interacted with the hosts. I was able to talk about their dance moves and joke with the athletes as this informal show of grace and athletics crushed all my expectations. Kind of made me want to start a drag hockey league...than I thought about taking a hit or falling on the ice with little on and decided I will stick with SHL hockey for now.

Written task 2:

Spaceman Spiff almost turned down the offer to appear as a last minute guest colour commentator for an exhibition cricket match held in Ottawa but when his agent told him the appearance fee he fell out of his chair and rushed to the field immediately. Of course, he was a day early, but that gave him lots of time to prepare! He dove into research about cricket and the teams, staying up all night to get the details. The next day he arrived at the field in a state of confusion and joined the hosts in the booth. It didn't take long to learn that he knew nothing, and less than nothing. Googling "cricket facts" had sent him down a rabbit hole about the insects, who in fact did not play any sports he learned. Also, he had come armed with information about Georgia the state instead of the visiting country of Georgia. Not we wanting to let his work become useless, Spiff eased in to the broadcast by asking questions of the regular hosts and casually dropping insect cricket facts and stats about the state of Georgia. He played it off as a joke and managed to create an entertaining but self-depricating show.

Written option 2:

Cale would absolutely accept the role of being the colour commentary for a sport he knew nothing about! How could he turn down that kind of money!? Also is there a better way to learn a sport then by watching it live with the experts in your ear!? While on the way to the event Cale would cram in as much studying as he could to get the basics of the game before going on the air and then immediately admit to being new to the sport and would need some help guidance through it. It would be more of a fun approach though and just throwing in wild comments when things happen that excited him to show the crowd that he is into it and having fun rather then the typical just play by play they had grown accustomed to hearing. Overall it was a fun experience that Cale will never forget and he hopes that one day they will have him back as a fan to watch the sport he had to host for!

Option 2
Willow is someone who will do everything she can to not look like a fool, and when contacted about it she would gladly join up and agree. Knowing her luck she would probably get something like darts or bowling where she doesn’t know the strategy and doesn’t know anything besides “throw dart or ball at targets.” Upon getting this call she’s on the plane to Helsinki to commentate this, with her face buried in a rulebook and any related subreddits to try and find out who is popular, what are common slang terms, stuff like that. As a color commentator you can kind of get by considering you’re not being asked to talk every single second of every single moment, so when something good happens that Willow actually knows about, she’d be able to chime in with some insight and not make a fool about herself. And when she doesn’t know what is going on she can just use that natural charisma to bluff her way through using a joke or two.

Leonard Wood is selected to be a guest commentator for a baseball game. He knows absolutely nothing about baseball. He's definitely not qualified to be commentating on the game. Instead of diving deep into the intricacies of the storied sport of baseball, he instead relates the game to hockey. But he fails miserably at this because baseball is so slow. He eventually stops paying attention and starts looking into the crowd. Then he gets distracted by some notifications on his phone which turns into endless scrolling. When he looks up from the phone, he remembers he's still commentating a baseball game. Remarkably, nothing has happened in the game. He picks up right where he left off. His co-commentator and all of the fans watching are none the wiser because they were letting their mind wander as well. Everyone was bored out of their mind at this baseball game, there just for the beer and camaraderie.

Written Option 2: Slava Ukraini Heroyam Slava loves the idea of being invited to be a guest star as a commentator in a sport they know nothing as Slava Ukraini Heroyam Slava thinks this is both an exciting and nerve wracking opportunity for the up and coming Toronto North Stars center, especially given the massive paycheck attached to it. Slava Ukraini Heroyam Slavas curiosity along with the once in a lifetime opportunity and a high pay rate outweighs any hesitations Slava Ukraini Heroyam Slava has with not knowing anything about the sport. Plus Slava Ukraini Heroyam Slava has always found the media side of sports interesting and know that this challenge could be a fun test of their adaptability especially since Slava Ukraini Heroyam Slava and the Toronto North Stars were recently eliminated from the SHL playoffs by the Buffalo Stampede in the first round of the playoffs in game six so he has a lot more free time now.

Analyst: Well with us today is none other than Tampa Bay's Tibuk Soonika here to talk some shop and give us a bit of a preview for what to come with this team.

Tibuk: Thanks for having me.

Analyst: So tell us how did your season go and what changes did you make this year?

Tibuk: I mean the season isn't over yet if that says anything! this year was a bit of a funk for me to be honest. It was the first year I felt like I have taken a step back in my development. Maybe it's age or maybe the kids are just getting fast than me! Either way I tried to add a bit more endurance to my game and work on my mental side so I would be sharper. It can be hard to get just the right mix for this league but I think I am going into a good spot with this post season.

Analyst: Ok 1 more quest-

Tibuk: Sorry I'd love to keep chit chatting but I have passed my quota on talking for the day so I am going to leave it there.

Analyst: What?

Gato is absolutely accepting this opportunity, I mean are you kidding me? You don't need to know much about the sport specifics to color commentate, just have a listen to any of the major broadcast channels these days. At the end of the day all sports are going to boil down to getting the shooty ball into the other goal. Add a little bit of flair to your descriptions and you're golden. Gato would absolutely wing it using a number of filler phrases like "exceptional play right there", "that player really has instincts that can't be taught", or even the classic "terrible awareness on that play you just can't hurt your team like that". I'm not saying Gato would be as good as some of the greats in sports commentary, but I think it wouldn't be a far cry from being passable. All it takes is a little bit of charisma and some off the cuff thinking and anybody can fill in for a single day!

As Louis Belanger approached the microphone. A sweat came down his neck. He was about to cover a cricket game, a sport he never watched or knew anything about. The good news is his friend @HillsHaveHats , who was from England, had spent some time in India when he was a kid looking for new types of peanuts, had tried to give him a crash course. Unfortunately, the only thing he remembered was that Crickets resembled baseball. Louis couldn't refuse the money because his salary with New England was already so low, @luke was too busy giving speeches on former players to negotiate a proper salary for Louis.

The game went well as a commentator for Louis. He didn't really comment on what was happening, but was still very entertaining making fun of everything happening. The crowd was roaring and Louis would describe what he would see. At one point, someone threw a PB&J sandwich at a player.

Dejana Kaptina is happy to be a color commentator on an unfamiliar sport! While she may not have the charisma or extroversion to make being a commentator on anything work, the job simply requires her to be a hype gal and that's something she's more than happy to be. Sports fans watching games don't tend to remember this insanely high-level breakdown of Things That Happened During Play, that's the intermission/pre/postgame crew's job. What they do remember is those iconic calls, lost in the emotion of the moment. She'll do some basic research to make sure she understands the rules, of course; if she were calling basketball and was unfamiliar, it doesn't make sense to call an early game 3 pointer like a buzzer beater in the finals. But generally speaking, leave the analysis to the more familiar, and just roll with VIBES

This is the most incredible, most horrendously awful idea in the history of incredible and awful ideas. Such an idea, nay, an opportunity cannot be turned down. For the sake of Czechia, Petr will use this chance to continue to spew the good word about the glorious nation of Czechia! What playoff series? I think you mean the endless pursuit towards gold! Petr's nearly 100 career playoff goals? No, surely you mean the next Czech golden generation! Texas' recent success? No, I think you mean the 60 seasons of Czech history in the IIHF! Petr's march to 500 career goals in the regular season? No, surely you mean Petr's journey to earning 200 career points and 100 goals in the IIHF! Petr is simply put, a propaganda machine whenever a microphone is put in front of him, as he has been trained to do, and as he will continue to diligently provide.
