The Yukon Malamutes season was slightly worse than how they performed in s78, they went a 29-33-4 record in S79. A record that is slightly under 500, which is disappointing. Their penalty kill was an area of concern with a POK% of 72.7%, which needs to reach 80% for a team to have a deep playoff run. They also were about even in the shots for and against department where they had 34.92 shots a game and allowed 35.52 shots against. They will need to have that number filp to see a record over 500 next season. How they are going to improve it, will be tough to say but it's something that they need to work on as a team and commit to it. The only stat that looks positive is their faceoff percentage stat as their centers went a collective 52.9%.
Their season leaders and offense were primarily led by Christina fantobens, who is in their 2nd season of the smjhl, there will be some growth here as she gets better and becomes a better player on both sides of the rink, she will be reaching her 425 caps next season and we will see a lot of growth because she led the offense. Another area of some growth will be rookie Hamilton steelhawk, who was one of the strongest offensive rookies in this draft class, they had 18 goals and 29 assists which is a solid season for 5th on the team in scoring, which is great for a rookie on the 3rd line, who will just keep on getting better. Chuck Lumbermouth was also in his 2nd season, and again will get better and was second on the team in scoring. These three will see a bump in production and will be dangerous in leading the offense that could be among the top in the league. It will be interesting to see how these three perform next season after a solid season. as a team with a 17-16 home record and a record of 12-17-4, they will need to be better on the road next season if they want to climb ahead of 5th place in the conference and 11th in the league. Their poor away record will be in the playoffs as they will be away most of the time throughout the postseason and they will need some great performances out of those three young forwards if they are ever going to make a deep run in the playoffs. Maybe if Hamilton Steelhawk did his deep dives before the regular season he would have a good chance to do that and help his junior team out in his rookie season like it was expected out of top earner like himself. This team will improve for next season as they are a quite young team with a lot of potential and we should see them back int the .500 mark next season as they have enough young players to make the team better and be one of the top teams in juniors. |
