#1

Please pick ONE prompt to write about. Do not mix and match prompts. Identify the prompt you are using in your submission - Copying and pasting the prompt will deduct from your word count so if you do this make sure YOUR submission is 150+ words excluding the prompt.

Written Option 1:: T’was the game before Christmas and all through the league, your rivals are pushing you into OT. You see on the scoreboard, that tie you abhor - in spite of your efforts, it’s locked, 4 to 4. Are you naughty and cruel, or angelic and kind, does your player save the day, or is your team left behind? Share now with us all this story, this dream, when Christmas glory was lost, or claimed for your team.

(If you’re not a fan of poems) It’s the last game before the Christmas break and your game against your biggest rivals is going into overtime after a tough 60 minutes that lead to a 4-4 game. Is your player naughty or nice? Do they get the game winning goal or game winning save? Or does your player’s team get a net full of coal and lose the game? Describe the play that leads to a Christmas Miracle… or a christmas blunder.

A big thank you to Gyro_Hero for turning my idea into a Christmas poem

Graphic Option 1: Create an image of the overtime play that leads to your team’s Christmas win or loss.

Written Option 2: Your player is put in charge of helping plan the team Christmas party! What sort of games do they plan? What food and drink does your player decide to bring for the party? How does the party go with their teammates? Does anyone do anything wild at the party? If so, who? What happened to lead up to that event?

Graphic Option 2: Create an image of your player partying with a teammate at the Christmas party.

Written Prompt 1:

T'was the night before Christmas,
And all through Edmonton, not a soul stepped outside.

Was it the snow, the wind, the blustering blizzard?
Nay, it was the ice, the cheer, the brilliant Blizzards.

They had played, and skated, and battled for a full hour,
In this time of merriment and cheer, tension was in the air.

The game was tied, four to four,
A worry for the players, a blessing for the fans; free hockey was their gift this blustery night!

Sixty minutes hardly enough to determine who was favored,
It was time for a Merry Christmas for one city, and a Humbug day for another.

The Blizzards took the ice again,
Led ever on by their beloved first liners.

There went Gwendolyn Telenn, leading the way!
On her right, the stubborn and reliable Olafur Atlason!

On the left, the one there to finish the job, Alexa Johansen!
Between them, they were sure to bring it home!

Thus it was, the night before Christmas,
When Edmonton erupted in good cheer.

They would have a Merry Christmas,
A happy Holidays, and a Blessed Yuletide, with a win once more!

T’was the game before Christmas, and Blade Hunter was fired up. We’re tied 4-4, and I’m sweating bullets out there. Overtime? Nah, nobody wants that on Christmas Eve. The crowd’s goin' nuts, the pressure’s heavy, and the coach is yelling like we can’t hear him. Blade knows it’s on him—this is his moment to shine. The rivals are pushing hard, shoving us into the boards like they’re Santa trying to fit down the chimney. But Blade? He’s got somethin’ to prove. With a quick steal at the blue line, he’s breaking down the ice. His legs are burning, but he doesn’t stop. The goalie’s staring him down like a Grinch, but Blade’s not shaking. He winds up for a slapshot, a big, booming shot that could wake the neighborhood kids early. The puck sails, and BOOM! Back of the net. Game over. The arena erupts, and Blade just raises his arms like he knew it’d happen all along. The rivals look crushed, and the fans? They’re singing Christmas carols louder than ever. Blade saved the day, brought home the win, and gave the team a story they’ll tell for years. Christmas glory? Yeah, Blade claimed it.

McLovin ain't one to pass up on a good time and he sure wants everyone else to have a good time too, so he goes back to some family traditions to make sure it is so.

Big party at a beautiful lodge in the woods rented just for the occasion. Car service provided for all the players and their significant others.

Food? Only the best spread for the best team, shrimp, oysters, caviar, prime rib cut on site, and so much more.

Live entertainment headlined by 50 Cent fresh out of retirement just for the occasion, which of course comes with his booze.

Games galore, from secret santa, to LCR, 7/11, bingo, and more.

This is a party guaranteed to go into the wee hours of the night, filling all with the joy and spirit of the holiday.

As to anything wild? Well.... lets just say this isn't an occasion where one kisses and tells. What happens at McLovins Merry Mania, stays there!

Written Option 1:

OT after a hard fought 3 periods for NewFoundland vs Maine. Shots essentially even and looking for some spark. Marsh has been bred for these moments, nothing stopping him from being the hero, he's done it countless times in minor hockey and lives for these. To start overtime Marsh is on the bench with Bourne and Labryinth on the ice to start. He knows with those two he may not even get a chance to shine in OT as they may end it at any second. Bourne dangles around the D and sauces one to Labryinth in the slot for a one timer. A loud "ping" is heard as it rings off the crossbar and the Maine D quickly pick up the rebound and chip it deep into the Newfoundland zone.

"This is it" thought Marsh as he sees Bourne heading in for the change. He's played this out so many times in his head and as he's hopping the boards toe of his skate gets caught and he goes down embarrassingly. Make matters worse Paragyeko threw the outlet pass right to him as he's currently lying on the ice. Worst case scenario but as the puck it heading towards his face (currently at ice level) he cross checks the puck while still laying on the ice to open spacr and watches as Hamper Linthome picks it up on the fly for the unlikely breakaway which he buries for the 5-4 win.

Marsh having just seconds earlier gotten to his feet celebrates the Christmas "miracle" breathing a sigh of relief he won't have to relive that clip for his friends and family over the holidays. An assist on a game winner counts no matter how ugly it was.

Well its time for the annual Inferno Christmas Party and Dan Johnston has been put in charge of the games. It will be interesting to see where this goes as the Inferno have quite the reputation behind locker room doors haha. Dan decides it would be best to stick to the standards and has come with What Do You Meme?, Cards Against Humanity and multiple sets of cards and poker chips. Everyone knows that hockey players love their poker and Dan feels this is the best way to get everyone on the team involved and having fun.  Dan also institutes a Secret Santa game and had everyone buy a gift that they put a limit of $100 on each gift. They decided that they wouldn't do the standard Secret Santa, but instead play Dirty Santa, where every person that goes up has to pick a gift or decide to steal a gift from someone else that has already drawn. You can't open your gift until every person has gone, therefore it is a total crap shoot on whether the steal you are doing is actually an upgrade or not.

Option 2:

Beck will set up a board game night, not unlike the game nights that we currently run in the Winnipeg locker room. Centerpieces of the Christmas game event would of course be a drinking bingo, the purpose of which is to raise the colelctive spirits whenever a mundane thing is completed off the bingo card i.e., "AuggieO mentions JamesT" If that happens, the person that catches the act takes a shot and marks off the space. For the board games, Catan and Ticket to Ride and the mainstays in the middle of the room, with other games relegated to the side. We also have card games going in the corner, for those weirdos that don't like the awesome board games, or for the rookies who aren't yet cool enough to get to the main table. Throw in some mistletoe over the cooler and everything is ready for an unforgettable party.

Option 1:

At least I made the top ten plays of the year, and it will be showed for the next 20+ years, and I will go down in history as one of the greatest overtime blunders, and...well let me tell you what happened.

4 - 4 with time ticking down, just over 3 mins left, in overtime. When Dominik Winters is tripped in the neutral zone with the puck and the ref's hand shoots up. I jump on the loose puck and race into the zone. I know Justin Time is heading for the bench we have the extra attacker and I put pressure in their zone. Working my way behind the net fighting off two defenders as I make my way around.

In front of the net Winter and Hargreeves have found their way in front of the goalie and they are open. I see one of the LAP forwards racing in to back check our two open forwards so I rip a hard pass to them...

Now it should have been routine, we have worked on this a hundred, no a thousand times. Hard pass, quick shot at point blank and in the net.

Well it was a hard pass but my skate hit a rivet on the ice, and I fall on my face as I go for the pass. This sends the pass flying wide of both forwards, passed both my defenders and on a 1 in a million shot straight for my own net!

With no goalie in net and no one to stop it, the puck sails into our own net and we lose in the final seconds of the game. Merry Christmas to all and to all a good night.

Option 1:

Paul Bondage is looking up to the 4-4 tie. He, along with Sim Wen, are the only two players on the team with less than 5 points (in fact all others have 10+), but they have a good +/-. Paul Bondage certainly doesn't expect to be the hero of the game, but he's played with this team enough to know his job. Play smart, play hard, and the team will pull off a win. He certainly is not making the highlight reels anytime soon, but simple good hard played hockey will almost always get the team a win. With a miscommunication, Paul Bondage and Sim Wen find themselves as the two defensemen out on the ice together. They have them hemmed in the offensive zone. Bondage passes to Wen, back to Bondage, back to Wen, then BACK TO BONDAGE AGAIN. It seems both players are looking to get rid of the puck to someone who can actually score some points. Bondage flings it towards the net on a silent wrister. It's deflected and in! Atlanta Inferno win 5-4 with 5 seconds left, and Bondage and Wen both pick up an extra much-needed assist.

Option 1:

It was Christmas Eve babe
In the Kraken dump
An old man said to me, won't win another one
And then he sang a song
That weird old Kraken piece
I turned my face away
Dreamed about mayhem in the crease

We scored a lucky one
Came in with a two on one
I've got a feeling
This year's for us, not you
So happy Christmas
I love us owls
I can see an even better time
When all our dreams come true

We are handsome
We are pretty
Queens and Kings of Québec City
When the band finished playing
They howled out for more
Bissonnette was swinging
All the owls they were singing
We kissed on a corner
Then danced through the night

The boys of the QPD choir
Still singing Beauport Bay
And the bells are ringing out
For Christmas day

And this, lovely people, was the story of what happened before, during and after the beautiful 5-4 OT winner by Citadelles hero Cristoforo.
