S80 PT #2: The Game Before Christmas Due: Sunday, December 29th @ 11:59 PM PST

Written Option 2:

This year, the altanta inferno, a team in the simulation hockey league, decided to put co-gm Angus McFife in charge of the holiday party. It is gonna be a tough task because since some members of the team are animals, @hotdog the eel and @Z-Whiz the duck, we cannot slam an easy peazy recipe to success by visiting the pet zoo. So we are gonna have to do something else. The whole team is also banned from every bar in town due to misorderly conduct so we can't do that either. So Angus organises the next greatest thing for all his players. A visit to the rock and roll hall of fame, in cleveland ohio. This should be a ton of fun, cleveland is a very fun city and everyone on the team likes rock and roll, i think. Well @retuperkele likes it i guess and maybe @CaptainCamel too. Close enough for a nice road trip with the whole squad!!! I will also gift every player a commemorative atlanta inferno acrylic cube from our merch store. People love cubes.

It’s the final game before the Christmas break, and the rink is buzzing with energy. After a grueling 60 minutes, the game is tied 4-4 and heading into overtime. Every player on the ice knows the next goal will decide if the break begins in triumph or disappointment.

The puck drops in the extra frame, and the tension is palpable. A key player, known for their mix of skill and grit, picks up the puck in the neutral zone. With a burst of speed, they drive into the offensive end, weaving through defenders with precision. The goalie stands tall, reading every move, but the player isn’t deterred.

A quick deke sends the puck to a teammate, who fires a shot that rings off the post. The rebound bounces unpredictably, and the player lunges forward, swiping the puck out of mid-air. It sails just past the goaltender’s glove and into the net.

The horn blares as the crowd erupts into cheers. The game is won, and the team heads into the holiday break victorious. A Christmas miracle? Maybe. For one night, the ice delivered glory.

Christmas Eve. Carolina versus Colorado. The score is 4-4 in overtime. Greyson Willis skates the puck into the offensive zone, looking for an open teammate to pass to. However, in his scanning of the ice, he locks eyes with his nemesis Tiny Princess. He passes the puck in the general direction of where his closest teammate probably is, and charges straight at Tiny Princess at a reasonably fast speed. These two players have quite the history, spanning one very intense rookie season. Willis, completely disregarding the play happening across the ice from him, "bumps" into Tiny Princess, sending him nowhere. This guy is like 40 feet tall. "Whoops, my bad!" he says, but they both know it wasn't his bad. Willis plays it off as incidental contact and gets into position in front of the net. "Pass here! I'm open!" he yells, and soon after, the puck comes to his stick. He swings as hard as he can, rifling the puck towards the net, and missing by a good few feet. Then, he jumps up and cheers from the bench as one of his teammates scores the game winner, as his line was done for the OT frame.

Violet has always been more of a facilitator than a true scorer - though, to continue posing some degree of threat, she makes a point of getting a handful of shots on goal during the game even if she doesn't convert well. The OT or late third period tie is no exception: she looks generally for the "best option," and since she isn't typically the single best shooter or scorer on the team, she aims to create space, look open to draw pressure to someone who's got a bit more of a nose for the goal, or start a counterattack that creates that kind of space automatically with a deadly outlet pass. That typically requires wingers who are up to the task and are more scoring oriented while Violet acts as a deep playmaker or fulcrum for the offense from Gretzky's (or the SHL equivalent) Office. Typically, this means she can't carry an offense on her own and works best with a primary star that complements her strong supporting attributes. She generally hates the spotlight, too, so serving as an apple collector is a great option for her.

Thanks @Amidships!

Yeah this year we did the holiday party around the indoor pool at the hotel. We played a game called don’t let the beach ball drop where you just smack the beach ball to someone and they either hit it back to you to another teammate. We also played wack a duck where you had a pool noodle and you chose a duck to wack and that correlated to a prize. Prizes were floaties and scratchers. Jakub got a little crazy because he won $200 on his scratcher so he wstarted using pool noodles as funnels. We had burgers and dogs at the party and a bunch of different salads. For drinks we had hard seltzer and tequila because that’s what I like to drink. It was a blast. We had relay races and long jumps too. Everyone had a blast except for Earl. He sat it the corner all night with a poo poo face. I think it’s his hemorrhoids.

Option 1:

Lewis Holl the game before Christmas would absolutely be very naughty. Tied up going into the third they need defense to get hard. Lewis Holl absolutely is no stranger to that. It’s time to start gifting the other team some real heavy checks! And he’s making a list of the best players on that team, checking it twice, then making sure they get separated from the puck with a heavy check into the boards.

But what else is there? Well, like the Grinch, Lewis Holl is also going to steal some presents. You got the perfect shot to take the lead in the game? Lewis Holl is there to steal that gift from you! Blocked shots all around the Christmas tree.

But what else is there? Well when in doubt Holl has two final gifts for the other team. A right hook and left hook! So you better watch out, you better skate nice, because Lewis Holl is head hunting tonight.

Surprisingly, Jamie Fraser is a big fan of Christmas parties for someone of his demeanor, but the holiday was a big to do in his homeland and he was adamant about bringing that festivity to his current situation. The team was not prepared for the level of decor or the feast Jamie organized though, it looked straight out of a storybook and took their breath away. The roast was delicious and there was enough food to send each attendee home with seconds and thirds for the following days. Afterwards there was a gratuitous amount of wine and pastries to help cap off the dining before everyone began some rousing party games such as truth or dare, some retro SHL '43, and a range of drinking games of various levels of appropriateness. The party was a smashing success, but Jamie was adamant that he would only ever do Christmas parties, he was not an event planner type, he just liked the holiday season.

Prompt #1

Going into the holiday break its important for a team to get the win and go into the new year with momentum on their side. The Pride and Toasty surely understood this yet find themselves in a deadlock with the Steelhawks. With a bunch of San Francisco fans in attendance hoping that their team would give them a win for the holiday season, Toasty could feel the pressure building up inside. Being one of the defenders used to putting up the extra minutes for the Pride late in the game, Toasty knew he was going to need to step up and was ready to do whatever was needed to make sure he could send the crowd home happy. This meant that anything was fair game to make sure his team won. Toasty saw the Hamilton forward streaking into their zone and was able to get down into the shooting lane to block a wrister attempt. Toasty cleared the puck up the ice immediately to Viktor Hargreeves who snuck into the Hamilton end of the ice behind their defenders and was able to bury the puck and get the Pride their much-needed two points!

In yet another close game with Edmonton, the Dragons are heading into overtime. Jennifer had been playing well up to this point, with an assist and a positive plus/minus, but overtime she knew she needed to be clutch. She felt she had been good all year, and that maybe a game winning goal would be her Christmas present. She gets the puck, dekes past Alexa Johansen and Gwendolyn Telenn, and is now in a two on one with herself and Anna Skovgaard against Dash Jackson. Jennifer passes it to Anna, Dash commits over, Anna makes a saucer pass to Jennifer whos now one on one against QCCBOT4, and Jennifer slides it through the five hole for the game winner! Big hugs from Anna, Anastasia, and Kaarlo who were on the ice, and soon the rest of the team comes over to celebrate! A big win for the Dragons in the Battle of Alberta, and tonight Jennifer was the hero.

Thank you @xjoverax and @phoenix for the sigs!

Edouard Lavoie marshals the team into a morning of volunteering before the team's Christmas Party. They visit with children at various locations and spend time with them and deliver invitations to the team Christmas party where the players will hang out, have dinner, and spend some time teaching the kids hockey skills. Some kids need help learning to skate at all, but others get personalized coaching from members of the team. The night culminates in pro-am game where the kids and the players play together against each other for prizes. After the game, the team gets together on their own to exchange gifts and have a more adult-oriented get together. The alcohol comes out and t he team relaxes together and gets to know each other better off the ice. There are optional games that the players can partake in for prizes, though some just prefer to play poker together, while others just want to watch sports or play NHL 25.

If there's one thing I know how to do it's party, so when I got put in charge of planning the team's holiday party I knew this was a perfect opportunity. The first and most important thing to figure out is the venue. You need somewhere fun and relaxing, where people can hang out without feeling cramped or like they're still at work. Thankfully our Co-GM Seany has a nice big finished basement that's perfect for a bunch of hockey players to let loose. Now for the actual most important part, the drinks. It's the middle of the season and everyone's trying to stay in peak playing shape, so we can't be drinking lots of beer and the like. I've got 200 white claws. That's all we need, and it doesn't count as breaking our diets because besides the fact that there's no carbs, there's also no laws when you're driving claws. For the sober and minors among us I have owned juice and chocolate milk. Food is also important, so we have a massive charcuterie board filled with meats and cheeses to snack on, and some pizza for dinner. You want to make sure the food is able to be eaten while moving around and doing things, so it's best to avoid big sit down meals. Now all that's left is to trash lovingly use Seany's basement. I'm sure he'll appreciate if I leave the clean-up to him the next day.

Quote:Written Option 2: Your player is put in charge of helping plan the team Christmas party! What sort of games do they plan? What food and drink does your player decide to bring for the party? How does the party go with their teammates? Does anyone do anything wild at the party? If so, who? What happened to lead up to that event?

When Jae-ik is put in charge of the Atlanta Inferno Christmas party, he’s torn between choosing games that are Christmas themed and choosing games that are themed around other holidays. The reasoning is when Christmas rolls around, people can be absolutely sick of the holiday, so it might be nice to have a changeup. On the other hand, what better time to enjoy Christmas games than Christmas?

The food will be varied, with options for both meat eaters and vegetarians. The one stipulation is that the food must have Christmas-coloring, meaning red, green, white, and brown in the case of baked goods. If you see the food present at the party, there’s no mistaking where you are. This is a Christmas party.

The party goes fine, because the Atlanta Inferno are completely locked in this season, and are determined to overcome the conference finals hurdle that kept them out of the finals in season 79. They know the Inferno are good enough to win the Challenge Cup, and they aren’t going to risk that by fooling around at the Christmas party and getting sick, or even worse, arrested.

Written Option 1:
The game is locked at 4-4 on the day of Christmas Eve and Wizard is on the ice and wondering how can I pull this one away. Teemu Salami has been on fire and it feels as if there is only one option but it could be considering something that would be frowned upon by the league and those around me. Wizard sees the faceoff and immediately dashes for Salami after the face-off commences hoping to catch him off guard. Alas, he does not and Salami swiftly evades making his way towards the goal. Wizards mind is a clutter as he tries to sort through what is happening. The Panthers are pushing towards the goal leaving Wizard in the dust but in that moment something strikes Wizard, he doesn't have to play dirty to win. The Dragons get the stop and things change so quickly with Wizard on the attack it is as if this is his moment he shoots for the goal... its blocked... the game goes to a shootout and LAP wins... Wizard wakes up in a sweat wondering where he may have gone wrong.

Gwendolyn adores Christmas parties, and definitely plans thoroughly. A week before Christmas, she's setting up the party for the team, spending thousands on stocking stuffers, gifts, drawings, and more. She reserves the best place in Edmonton, ready to ensure the team has a wonderful send-off for the year. It's been a rather eventful one afterall! Gwendolyn spends a couple hours with Alexa decorating a massive tree that was dragged in, covering it in ornaments that recalled all of the special achievements the team made each year. With Ólafur, she gathers the drinks and catering, ensuring a feast that'll echo into the history of Edmonton. Eventually, invites would be sent out and the festivities would soon begin. On the rooftop of the highest skyscraper, the entire team would drink, open presents, chat about their plans the next couple of weeks, and share in each other's camaraderie for an entire day.

“Ah hell,” the Argonauts coach muttered under his breath as no less than 4 seconds into the overtime, a stick became tied up in one of the opposing player’s skates, awarding Seattle with a minor penalty.

Shadow Fenix threw his legs over the boards. Not much needed to be said. He knew his role. He knew that they had to kill the penalty. It was 4 on 3, not great, not terrible. The extra space would allow the other team’s skilled players to have more ice to work with. It was unfortunate, but Fenix couldn’t think of that right now. He had to worry about the face off. Moving to the center of the dot, Fenix watched the ref’s arm, waiting for the slightest sign of movement.

As soon as he saw a hint of a twitch, Fenix moved his stick trying to secure the puck on a crucial face off. Unfortunately, the opposing center was doing the same, and did it just slightly faster. The face off was won by the opponents, and Fenix silently cursed in his head. He skated to the top of the triangle in the formation all hockey players were familiar with. Before he could think of where the play was going to go, however, the opposing defenseman who had received the puck off the face off decided to take a slap shot.

It went right into Fenix’s shin pads, and bounced out of the zone, directly into a spot on the ice where nobody expected it to go. Fenix saw his opportunity, and with explosive power, pushed off the ice, quickly accelerating to his top speed. It was a breakaway.

Fenix scooped up the puck and stared down the opposing goalie. There weren’t any obvious holes as the goalie squared up to him. Would he have to try a deke? Would he have to delay for a trailing teammate? He quickly checked his shoulder to spot the oncoming defenseman. He knew what he had to do.

Fenix stopped the puck on the ice 10 feet in front of the goalie, but maintained his own momentum, jumping over the goalie while doing a backflip, landing behind the goal. All the player’s on the opposing team were so shocked at the movement, they stopped playing hockey for a second to clap for Fenix. This was their big mistake though, and they realized it just too late as fellow penalty killer Squidwardo Tentacles skated to the loose puck, and took an easy wrist shot to put it in the back of the net, securing the win for the Argonauts.
