dieter is lucky for one major reason. his agent sebastien regazzoni is in attendance, and one thing sebastien did (those of you who remember old seb pts will know) was sponsor a youth ice hockey team from vaduz, liechtenstein. that team got tickets to game 1 of the anchorage-vancouver series. they also happened to be playing in a youth hockey tournament in that city, so had their gear on them. dieter just had to make a call to his agent, and he had a group of talented players ready to go. it also helps that they all speak german, so they'd have instant on ice chemistry. holding a 6-3 lead with this team is easier than you'd think because they're actually good players. in fact, they would add onto it through dieter, who scored a blast from the point to make it 7-3. it proved to be a huge win for the boats.

It was a big playoff home game, and the whole New Orleans Specters team was gathered for lunch. Blade Hunter was running late. He had been busy reviewing intel on potential android activity within the league. Missing the appetizers turned out to be a stroke of luck, though, because halfway through the third period, the rest of the team began dropping like flies with food poisoning. Blade immediately suspected sabotage as coincidences like this didn’t sit right with him. With the Specters up 6-3 and only 10 minutes left to play, Blade was the only one left standing. The referee approached with an ultimatum, "find enough replacement players within an hour, or forfeit the game." Thinking fast, Blade ran to the zamboni driver. “You skate?” he asked. The man known as David Ayers nodded. “Good, you’re in,” Blade replied. Still short of players, Blade pulled out his tracker and scanned the crowd. His android detector lit up on a some fans he had been watching for weeks. Desperate times called for desperate measures. “Hey Droids,” he shouted. The group all immediately looked at him and knew that Blade was talking to them, “grab skates and get on the ice.” If they were androids, at least they wouldn’t tire out and this was the perfect chance to study their behavior up close. The team assembled on the ice and Blade skated harder than ever before, blocking shots, making plays, and keeping the team in position. Somehow and in someway the opposing team was unable to score on a fricken zamboni driver. The final buzzer sounded a 6-3 victory and as it did the crowd erupted. As everyone was coming off the ice, Blade made a mental note to track down those "fans" later.

Kiwi just convinces the other team that they have to split their team in half and the game has to continue. So @SchwarzNarr is one team captain and Kiwi is the other and we line everyone up at the wall and pick apart the players of San Diego one by one, play ground style. It's fun. Some feelings are hurt when someone inevitably gets picked last. But it turns into a fun playground game of hockey, at least for the third period. Like 10 goals are scored and the game goes to OT and eventually Team Kiwi wins it, taking game 1 of the series and cementing herself forever more as a better hockey player than her weird cat. She's so tired of pundits comparing her to her cat. Like leave it alone. He's not even from this planet. Its not fair. TSN needs to stop harassing Kiwi about her cat. But now its on to game 2. Lets goooooo.

I'll talk about the Atlanta Inferno this time. They improved massively from a 34-26-6 record last season to 54-10-2. You read that correctly, 20 more wins than last season and number one in the standings with 110 points (12 more than the second highest team). Atlanta hasn't really been a bad team by any means in the seasons prior to this, but they have always been hovering around ~35-40 wins. The last time they had over 50 wins was in S68 when they had 51. I can't say that I expected them to be this good this season, but maybe I just haven't been paying attention (I believe I had Tampa at the top, not Atlanta). So what changed? Clearly not their sub-1k TPE goalie duo, they're still the same. One player who had an amazing season was Jae-Ik Barron who had 121 points and that's quite a jump from 79 points last season. 64 goals is also 19 more goals than the next player on the list. I don't know if anyone predicted that. Can they win the cup? Can they keep going next season? I have no idea, but I'm glad they aren't in my division.

Option 1: I told the management I thought our kitchen staff was underqualified before, guess we know who was right now. The scenario Dionicio has found himself in is one of those random scenarios that he imagined himself in and debating the best course of action with himself. First, we need a goaltender and luckily one of the scorekeepers happens to be your emergency guy for practices. While not fantastic, and on the wrong side of 50, he will just have to do and isn’t completely green at least. Dionicio is a defenseman so who else to call but his beer league partner, he always said that he could have played pro if he got the chance, well he’s just got his chance. Now in need of at least 3 forwards and hopefully a bench player or two so we can change someone now and then. It’s time to turn to the crowd and with the hour we got, speed skating, shooting accuracy, and puck handle are all we have time to test. After a few rounds of trials, a ragtag group of 5 forwards and one more defencemen have been recruited. The mission is not to allow more than 2 goals in 10 minutes, and it’s gonna become a siege. It got shaky at the end when everyone was gassed but the old and tried method of just parking an entire bus in front of the net managed to keep it 6-5.

One team in the juniors that had a significant change to their performance from last season was the Colorado Raptors. A team that was competing for the number one seed in the Southern Conference last season and who made the SMJHL finals has completely fallen off the face of the earth in the second half of the season. After starting the season hot and competing for the first seed, they completely collapsed and finished in the bottom half of the table. The last 24 games saw the Raptors go 6-17-1 and no one can quite figure out why this sudden and unexpected downfall has occurred. The Raptors didn't do much at the trade deadline but were able to add some pieces through free agency, which somewhat strengthened the team. Maybe the Raptors were overperforming in the first half of the season and when the schedule got harder, they got brushed aside by the better and more complete teams. Some of their weaknesses regarding depth and a lack of stars could also be a factor when comparing themselves to some of the best teams in the leagues. Expectations for next season are high as usual for the Raptors but a lot of moves need to be made for them to get back to their best.

What luck. Late in a playoff game, up by 3, and every defensively responsible player out sick for the rest of the game. It's just Spaceman Spiff, and his atrocious defense and whoever he can drag into this mess. Spiff only has one answer to this conundrum. The best defense is a good offence. He texts a few old hockey pals who happen to be in attendance, all experienced cherry pickers who never backchecked in their life. With the forward core filled out, Spiff found a handful of youth players who claimed to know how to skate to play defense, and the Highlander mascot, a highland cow, to stand in the net. The kids were surprisingly good skaters, including the meanest, and tallest, 12 year old Spiff had ever met. The cow filled the net, literally, and quietly chewed on some food while it stopped all but one lucky shot. His pals were useless, just circling centre ice and firing shots at the net, and wide, whenever they touched the puck. To Spiff's relief they held on to win, and the cow is in heavy consideration as the next backup goalie for the HIghlanders.

If I found myself in this situation, I would make use of who we have in the building already. That means I would use a combination of our staff in Texas as well as our fans. On the staff side, our coaches are former players, so that would fill several spots right off the bat and probably be our top line. I am sure too that our medical and equipment staff know their way around the ice, so there is another line there. Now where it gets tricky is the depth. For this, I would announce over the PA system in the stadium that we are going to need anyone who can state or has hockey experience down on the ice immediately. We would lace them up with our sick players skates and give them five to ten minutes to skate around and shoot the puck. Myself and the coaching staff would take notes during this, and start to piece together a lineup. Would we win the game that night? If I am being honest, probably not...but, we would try and compete, and all of those fans and staff members would have a story to tell for life.
