2x Draft Media, Some Rookie Scouting
#1

Phoenix-Orion Soderberg-Tremblay

Can we just shorten his name to POST? One of the hardest workers in this draft class has a surprisingly average build right now, this is not a bad thing. He is responsible at both ends of the ice, has good athletic skills across the board for a rookie junior player, and playing as a center he will have every opportunity to get points.

POS has produced a modest stat line in season 80, 11 goals, 26 assists for 37 points through 66 games, but his most telling stat to the player he is becoming a -3 rating, second best on his team. He really is developing nicely an elite two way forward.

With his projected development path we see him becoming an elite two way center in the SHL, he will likely become a teams top center at his peak, but will be one of the best 2nd line centers throughout his career.

Current SHL Comparison: Oliver Castillon
Projected Draft Pick: Top 10

Apollo Seaborne

Defenders are always in high demand on every team. A good two-way defender is in higher demand. Apollo Seaborne checks those boxes as a young rookie, perhaps a little more on the offensive side of the puck, so it will be interesting to see which way he continues to develop. At this time he is responsible in his own zone, can move the puck well and has a little bit of a scoring touch.

Apollo finished the season with 5 goals, 29 assists, and 34 points, a very health offensive total for a rookie SMJHL player. He also had 66 blocked shots, 130 hits, to go with 59 take aways vs 22 give aways. Really show casing his fantastic two way play.

The world is Apollo’s oyster right now, he is young enough to mold his future as he sees fit. I do believe he will be a responsible offensive defender, meaning he is going to become a better weapon on the power play but not be a liability in his own zone. He will have the opportunity to win a few Scott Stevens awards before his career is done.

Current SHL comparison: San-sam Emerson
Projected Draft Pick: Top 3

Khalfani

Offensively gifted, check, ultra-athletic, check, defensive liability, check. Khalfani has all the early making to become a future Ron Mexico award winner with pure offensive talent. I mean who needs to worry about defense when you have goalies and defenders for that. Give the puck to this high-end center and let him go.

Khalfani has a very strong offensive stat line of 26 goals, 24 assists, and 50 points through the first 66 games of his SMJHL career. A very solid showing as a rookie who did not get any power play time. Defense…that is another story.

With his current projection he will become one of the top point producers in any league, and it could happen before he peaks. I believe his coaches will help him get a little more defensively responsible, but that is like telling a Lamborghini owner the speed limit is 80 on a completely open highway. It is a suggestion in his mind as he will put his focus on scoring. The best defense is a top line offense that owns the puck the entire time.

Current SHL Comparison: Max Carnage
Projected Draft Pick: Top 5

Joe Primeau

An offensive weapon that has not quite found his offensive touch…yet. That is the best way I can describe Joe, he finished third highest on the Vancouver Whalers in points, but it was only above average compared to other rookie forwards. He currently has the makings of a first line offensive right winger, likely as a dangler, but there is a lot of work to be done on his defensive game.

Mr. Primeau scored 16 goals, 25 assists and 41 points through 66 games. I am not sure what happened here, as he has the talent to produce at much higher levels. I believe we will see much higher totals next season as he continues to develop. Defensively he was a liability even though he dolled out 140 hits and 66 blocked shots. Looking at how he played verse how he is built that could have been the miscommunication in development.

I really believe he is going to become a 1st line scoring threat on the wing. Wingers typically put up less points than centers, but he could be one of the exceptions to the rule. He will need to continue his development but could easily become the focal point of Vancouver and his SHL team’s attack as he nears his prime.

Current SHL comparison: Konig Wolf
Projected Draft Pick: First Round

Wednesy Shrinetime

Wednesy Shrinetime is looking to become a franchise center. Not a two way threat, heavily leaning on an offensively talented player but reliability in their own end. There is no weakenss in Shrinetime’s game, as they are primed for a big second season in juniors.

A good rookie season from the young center, Wednesy potted 21 goals, 26 assists, and a -5 rating through 66 games in season 80. On a loaded Nevada roster, Shrinetime made the most of their 17 minutes a night.

Future projections see Wednesy becoming a franchise center and lynchpin to a team’s offense. Challenging for a Ron Mexico or two if they are lucky enough. I do not believe they will beat any league records, but they will certainly make a run at a hall of fame career.

Current SHL comparison: Adam Prpich
Projected Draft Pick: Top 3

Dee Centerman IV jr

Every team needs a player like Dee Centerman IV jr. He is an anchor that will help a team win championships. Responsible in his own end, a penalty kill specialist, he is your first line of defense when the game is on the line with 3 minutes left and you have a one goal lead.

Despite a nearly completely defensive build, Centerman has put up a little below average points as a rookie. 13 goals, 21 assists, 34 points in his first 66 games. As a rookie he carried a ton of responsibility playing 2:12 a night on the PK and amassing 87 blocked shots and 41 takeaways. Once again as a forward!

With their current build I can’t see Dee ever climbing higher than a second line center even at their peak. He is a defensive minded forward with an incredible faceoff artist. He will likely be the anchor for a defensive line playing as a third defender at any time, most likely finding his home on the third line for most of his career but first penalty kill.

Current SHL comparison: Ekaterina Vaieva
Projected Draft Pick: Late First Round

River Yekaterina Volkova

A offensive left winger that is gifted with the ability to play all night without slowing down. River is going to be a big time point producer with their projected build. Adding to it their defensive side of the puck is not lacking, which is rare with a player that can do it all with the puck on their stick.

On a very young Vancouver roster River was produced above average with 20 goals, 29 assists and 49 points. There is a lot of room for improvement as this roster grows together and River should be the anchor to Vancouvers top line.

I believe River’s current build is a foreshadow to a very successful career as a winger in the SHL. They will push the top of the scoring in their prime but might never quite capture the hardware associated with it. I expect a long and successful career for River, and they have the ability to help lead a team to a challenge cup or two.

Current SHL comparison: Mikko Rashford
Projected Draft Pick: Top 3

Claude L’Castor

A generational talent doesn’t come around too often in the SHL. There are a ton of great players, but few get to truly define a generation with their play. Claude’s build is based around the three R’s of goaltending and that is all about controlling where you are around the puck and keeping yourself ready at any time. There is room to grow with the young net minder, but the foundation is SOLID.

Claude played to some degree in 40 contest this season posting a record of 16-16-1 and a 3.76 GAA with a .885 save percentage and a shutout. For a rookie these are solid totals, and their stat line is stronger than his counter part leading me to believe he has the tools to excel in their second season and beyond.

I said it before I believe Claude could be a generational talent, there will be some luck involved as they will need a good team around them to really shine. Whomever is lucky enough to snag this goalie will have one of the best in the league for a long, long time.

Current SHL comparison: Justin Time
Projected Draft Pick: TOP 15

Oceane Soderbeg-Tremblay

This may be one of the best two-way defender builds I have seen in a long time. Oceane is built to be defensively sound in her own zone. But she has the ability to move and pass the puck well either getting the puck out of her zone or keeping the play alive in the offensive zone. Don’t expect her to shoot a lot, but she can be a useful addition to any power play with responsible offensive playmaking from the back end.

Ok, so defensively her stats have not jumped off the board yet. 74 blocked shots, 109 hits not electric, but 65 takeaways to 13 giveaways are fantastic for any rookie SMJHL player. Offensively 3 goals are not great, but 27 assists are fantastic from the back end. All in all she is doing everything you would hope for with her current build.

I see Oceane becoming a premier defensively inclined two-way defender based on their current build, but they will have an offensive punch that will have them in the conversation for a Scott Steven Trophy. She will likely become a premier first pairing defender at her peak.

Current SHL Comparison: Elena Maximova
Projected Draft Pick: Top 10

Optimus Autonomous

Offensively talented center is just as good at moving the puck as he is at shooting the puck. He is average defensively for a rookie and has average physical build. Making him a potential wrecking ball with the puck on his stick.

This season was likely a surprise for Optimus, he does not have the greatest goal scoring touch but 5 goals must have felt like a disappointment. However, he exploded with assists 36 of them to make up for the lack of goal scoring. I bet next season we see the goals grow and the assists to stay the same.

I see Optimus becoming a really good two-way center with a stronger offensive touch than defensive. He will likely become the first line center on an SHL team once he peaks but he will likely be a great second line forward until he reaches that point. He could potentially win both a Ron Mexico and a Jeff Dar by the end of his career with the right development plan and execution.

Current SHL comparison: Dominik Winters
Projected Draft Pick: Top 15

Thanks for the kind words, and the Justin Time comparison is so fitting since I studied Justin's build for my own. The Nevada team also was for sure forward heavy for strength, so it isn't the easiest in regards to defense, so I'm fairly happy with the results for Claude and enjoy the pieces we have. I'm hoping Nevada can take a great step next season.

But I really like the shouts you did here. Wednesday is an underrated as fuck part of Nevada, Prime's been active when it comes to media this season and can be great value. Been talking to Barron and she's great and can see why Vancouver took her high. Then we got Jess and Corey as two strong users. I'm def interested in learning a few of the comparisons to SHL players you've listed as a new player.

Love the analysis! Definitely a disappointing goal Total for Optimus. Kind of hard to score goals shooting less than 5% haha. The sim wasn't a fan.

Hoping for a nice uptick in offensive production next season!
