The brilliance of Justin Time should not be understated. Yes, there have been great goalies, elite goalies, and even legendary goalies throughout SHL history. I know there will be debate for years where Justin Time falls in these categories. But as of right now we are witnessing a moment in SHL history that will go down in the record books, and it is nothing short of spectacular.

At the very worst he was a great goalie who played on powerhouse teams for the majority of his career, helping to boost his numbers into the legendary status. That is the debate most people will say for nay sayers in the SHL world. And there is a hint of truth to this, Edmonton was dominant in the West and SHL shortly after Justin Time took over the start in the crease for them. Just when Edmonton was starting to decline, they blew up their roster and Justin was moved into San Francsico just as they started their climb to the top of the SHL. Time was fortunate like few other goalies, and with that came lots of wins, wins we can all agree are a team stat. What can’t be necessarily counted as a team stat are some of the other stats, GAA, save percentage, arguably the most important and the reason for this article goals saved above average.

The truth is Justin Time has been one of the best goalies in the SHL year in year out with fantastic numbers in these individual categories for many seasons now. The proof is in the pudding as the saying goes, and he backs that up with a host of individual (and team) awards:

Now I have gone on for far too long about how amazing Justin Time has been in the past, what I am really doing right now is making you aware of a rare event. Justin Time is on pace to SMASH the GSAA record, well to a degree.

The true “record” sits at a ridiculous 122.73! This was during a time when Simon (sim engine we used to use) wasn’t really tracking this stat, and I believe it artificially generated this number. Goalies played fewer games, had the same number of shots per game as they currently experience and the save percentages are about the same, meaning something doesn’t add up. This was the case between seasons 1 – 11 where the GSAA wildly fluctuated between seasons as some saw a league lead as high as 127 and low as 15 for best in a season.

So, since these stats have become an actual reliable tracking point, Time right now is behind the “true” league record of 44.43 set by Lauris Prikulis back in season 22 and Thomas Tuck 44.17 set in season 47. Justin Time currently sits at 42.30 with a week to go! At this pace he could eclipse 50+ in his GSAA.

What is GSAA?

Great question, so we look at the shots they had, we look at how many goals other goalies have, we look at their morning routine and hand it to a magic wizard. He than feeds this information to a dragon and what it poops out is GSAA…OR

Goals Saved Above Average is the metric that measures the difference between the number of goals a goaltender has allowed versus how many they were expected to allow, given the league average save percentage and the number of shots faced. In essence, it quantifies a goalie’s performance relative to the league norm. A positive GSAA indicates that a goaltender has saved more goals than the average goalie would have, given the same number of shots, signaling superior performance.

THIS BRINGS ME TO MY WHOLE POINT:

What Justin Time has done this season is nothing short of spectacular with a week to go. What I am now asking all of you. Please keep an eye on this stat as the season winds down, If he can keep up this torrid pace, please use your Sarmad Khan vote to someone who has clearly dominated this season. Its true the Pride are doing really well, they have three of the league’s top scorers, but if you look at the numbers, the true All Star this season, the guy who has won games for the Pride is Time and he deserves your vote. Help this man earn one of the few trophies he is missing in his legendary career during a season he truly deserves to win it.
