[J+H Media] Interview w/ Lyle Odelein IV
#1

After reading about the media competition, I have been inspired to get back to something I used to do all the time with my first player, Lyle Odelein III, to do an interview with my player.  For quite a long time, that is who I made my SHL cash, writing interview articles with LOIII.  I had some fun doing them too, but for whatever reason, I have never done this style of media for my current player, Lyle Odelein III’s son, Lyle Odelein IV.  So, without further ado, here is a sit down interview with the youngest Odelein.

Hello readers, we had the opportunity to sit down with the New Orleans Specters winger just as the final whistle was blown to end the regular season for S81.  We talked about his family, the season that just wrapped up and the upcoming playoffs.

Q: Hello Lyle, thanks for taking the time to sit down with us today.

A: Not a problem!  I don’t get the chance to do many of these.  I know my dad used to do them all the time, so this is a treat for me!

Q: Glad to hear that!  I was lucky enough to sit down with your father for those interviews, he was a great hockey player and person and from what I know the apple didn’t fall far from the tree.

A: That’s kind of you, although I have a very long way to go to try and accomplish what my dad did in the league, both on and off the ice.  But I’m trying to do my best.

Q: How involved is your dad in your career?

A: Well, he is pretty hands off, for the most part.  He has always wanted me to be my own person and player.  He knew that with the name Odelein, people would always try to draw comparisons and he wanted to make sure that I wouldn’t be drawn into that.  He is always there for me though, but he doesn’t ever give unsolicited advice.  If I want to here his opinion on something, it’s me that initiates that conversation.

Q: That sounds like a solid set up.  You talked about people comparing the two of you, does that happen a lot?

A: Early on in my career, for sure.  They saw the name and automatically thought they knew what type of player I was going to be.  But we both knew that we may share a few similarities in our games, we are two completely different hockey players.  He made his career as a hard-nosed defender, a player how made his opponents always be on their toes if they wanted to get the better of him.  With me playing forward, my game has become much more on the offensive side of the game.  I still try and use my size to make it tough to play against me, but not quite the same as my dad did.

Q:  You are definitely right about playing much more offensive than your dad, in just three seasons in the SHL, you have already scored 70 goals and 178 total points.  Your father on the other hand, in his 16 seasons in the SHL, totaled 124 goals and 432 points.  If you keep on your same trajectory, you will surpass those numbers in no time!

A: I hope so!  But my dad brought so much more to the table than points.  He was a leader for the Specters and wore the ‘C’ on his jersey for many, many seasons.  I mean, his number has been hanging in the rafters since he retired.  If I can achieve half of what he did in that regard, I will feel that my career was successful, points aside.

Q: That is an impressive statement for such a young player.

A: I grew up in the NOLA family, I know what this team means to people.  My dad still bleeds purple.  Nothing is as important as being a team player, being part of this organization is something special.

Q: Talking about the team, S81 just wrapped up.  How do you feel the season went?

A: Overall, I think the season went reasonably well.  We feel short of winning the division for the second time in a row, which is something we were striving for.  We started the season out on fire, we were close to the top of the league for a bit.  The second half of the season wasn’t exactly what we were hoping for though.  We are a determined team though, we want to play more hockey this season and we know the only way to do that is to keep winning in the playoffs.  It won’t be easy, but we want to get started on this post season, we hope to bring that same intensity to the rink like we had at the start of the season.

Q: Speaking of the playoffs, your first round matchup is against a divisional rival in the Chicago Syndicate.  During the season, you played against the Syndicate 7 times, with the Specters winning 4 of those matches and the Syndicate winning 3 (one in a shootout).  In those seven games, NOLA had 33 goals to Chicago’s 23.  Do you think this series will play out like the regular season, with the Specters winning a close series thanks to their offense?

A: It’s tough to say.  The regular season is over, so looking back at what happened then doesn’t really matter.  The playoffs are a different beast, anything can and will happen.  We are lucky enough to have the home ice advantage for this match up, we hope that our fans will give us that edge that we’ll need.

Q: It’s exciting times in the SHL!  Playoff hockey is the best that there is, no doubt.  I want to thank you, Lyle, for taking the time to sit with us.  It was a pleasure getting to know you a little better.

A: Honestly, the pleasure has been all mine.  As I said at the start, I always loved ready the interviews you did with my dad, so this has been something that I’ve always wanted to do.

Q: Well then, hows about we do some more soon?  Maybe once the playoffs wrap up, we can have another chat.

A: I’d like that a lot.  Hopefully we have something to celebrate as well!

Well folks, thanks for reading, stay tuned for another sit down with New Orleans Specters winger, Lyle Odelein IV for a post playoff interview.

Thanks for reading!

Huck!!! Great media my dude love it! :D

“The Wheel of Time turns, and Ages come and pass, leaving memories that become legend. Legend fades to myth, and even myth is long forgotten when the Age that gave it birth comes again. ... There are neither beginnings nor endings to the Wheel of Time. But it was a beginning.”
