S82 PT #4: Hero Hockey League Due: Sunday, May 18th @ 11:59 PM PST

Option 2
I hear on the ice can mean many things to many different people to people in all different positions that watch the game or participate in the game. To your teammates you can be a hero if you show up with a big goal make a big pass make a big hit stand up for your teammate in a fight means a lot to different guys. Do a fan you can be a hero as simply as flipping a puck over the ice making time for a photo or signing an autograph. To me being a hero in the sport means doing more in your power, as influential people and people that have reached thanks to the sport we should be using our reach and power to hopefully educate and promote good causes around us. That can be something as simple as volunteering at local charities, bands and people around us seeing us do that often motivates them to do acts of similar. It could be standing up to get more people of different cultural backgrounds involved in the game of hockey or making the game of hockey easier to play no matter how wealthy your family is growing up. The end of the day a hero can mean many different things but a hero should always be titled for someone that is helping one another.

Written Option 2

To be a hero as a hockey player, you certainly have to show up and perform in the big moments. Often times, heroes are thought as those who score a winning goal in the finals or make a big save when their team needed it most. But there is more to it, and a hero on a team would need to be someone who thinks about everyone involved with the team and not just the star players. I believe a hero is someone who makes sure that even fourth line forwards, third line defense, and backup goaltenders still get the credit they deserve. This might be through media conversations or getting them the puck in a crucial moment, but a hero would make sure they are noticed and involved in some way. I also believe a hockey hero is involved in the community and is often seen giving back and volunteering with the community, so that the fans know that the player cares about the city as a whole.

Option 2:

What makes a hero?
Well it could be a lot of things, big actions or small could make you a hero in someone's eyes. In terms of having a Hero for our team I'd Say It'd have to be Hans Gronlund, believe me there have been many heroics on the ice. for example when Hans defended a perfect game as well as put in a shift for the offense. That performance alone made Hans a Vancouver legend, one of which will have him in numerous debates for one of the best SMJHL Defenders of all time.

It's not just how he carries himself on the ice though, it's how he presents himself as a regular guy.

The big guy is a softie. One day myself, Hans and Slaw were out getting coffees when a group of kids were picking on another younger group, before I knew it he got up, coffee in hand and told off the older bullies and threatened to call their parents, the older bullies ran off and Hans went to comfort the littler guys. I've never seen someone so star struck as these kids. He went on to let them know that he was proud that they stood their ground but was even prouder that they didn't resort to violence. After some idle chit-chat with the kids he comes back over and resumes our conversation.

Hans thought nothing of it but I knew he became a hero to them.

Hans is the definition of a hero, and anybody in town would agree.

If Bernard Lodge was a superhero he would be Blocker Man. While Lodge doesn't favor either his glove or his blocker when it comes to goaltending, a blocker seems more practical for superhero activities. With his a blocker on each hand and big leg pads protecting his lower half Blocker Man would be able to stand in front of any threat. He's also already used to wearing a mask so there's no adjustments needed there to keep his identity secret. As a goaltender Lodge is used to making saves between the sticks. Now instead of saving picks he'll be saving the day!

His nemesis would definitely be the dastardly Flying Puck. Capable of surpassing 100 miles per hour, the Flying Puck is a threat to civilians everywhere. It's a good thing that Lodge is prepared to put himself on the line and stop his rival at all costs! The Puck never gets past him!

i think pinli as a hero just leans in to what he already has going for him. a tiny little fast nimble body. so i'd just be like ant man or something where i can grab the puck and then shrink really small with it. then nobody can see me or the puck and i can just speed into the back of the net, size up, and badda boom its a goal. me and the puck just chilling over the goal line and nobody saw us get there! that being said once i'd dont it a few times they'd probably try to look for some way to defend against it, like everyone lying down on the goal line so that there's no way around them. or building a snow wall on the goal line that i have to summit like everest just to get the puck in the net. at some point the clock would run out on the period while im climbing and then i gotta size back up to normal and try again next period. although at that point maybe you could use it to fake people out and like, shrink down so everyone freaks out and fills the net, then i just size up at point blank range and try to blast it past them. could be fun, lots of possibilities!

Since we're talking alternate universe here I'm gonna go with the most convenient superhero theme I can think of here for my player. In this other world, Mia Lavoie is exactly who her render portrays her to be - Captain Clutch! A Canadian force to be reckoned with, Captain Clutch uses her hockey superpowers to wow and inspire people of all ages. She is strong, tireless, and always comes in clutch when people need her the most, whether she's on the ice or off of it. I think the only person in her world who could maybe be considered somewhat of a villain would be Knighter, but really they both do a lot of good in their alternate hockey worlds and just have a bit of a friendly rivalry going on. Maybe as part of their whole storyline they start out as kind of hero/villain/rivalry whatever but then come together as a dynamite duo of awesome and superhero it up together.

enlightened centrist, star of the colorado raptorts, prospect of the hamilton steelhawks, is a hero in a multitude of ways. from being the most clutch performers on the team, scoring endlessly when the team needs him most, to laying out the most perfect shot blocks, disallowing the enemy team from ever scoring. enlightened centrist, star of the colorado raptorts, prospect of the hamilton steelhawks also very often is deployed on the penalty kill, where he is endlessly laying on the forecheck in the offensive zone, keeping the puck tied up along the boards. games played without enlightened centrist are most definitely worse, especially because he is a key component of the colorado raptors offense and defense. in many cases he is the go to superhero for the team. he is also a superhero when it comes to outside of hockey, as everyone likes him over other members of the colorado raptors, such as tiny princess, and evil jordan humphrey the third.

A hero in hockey isn’t just someone who scores the overtime winner—it’s someone who carries the weight of the room when things get heavy. Billy Herrington has made his name on big hits, bigger goals, and playoff poise, but what truly cements him as a hero in the eyes of his team is the quiet leadership he shows when the cameras aren’t rolling. Billy doesn’t crave the spotlight; he lets his play do the talking, but when the team is on the ropes—down a goal, down in a series, down in morale—Billy’s presence is like a steady anchor. He’s the guy picking up rookies after tough games, keeping the locker room from spiraling after a bad loss, reminding everyone of who they are and what they’re capable of. His speeches aren’t loud, but they hit deep. His actions are louder—whether it’s staying late to help a teammate work on faceoffs or being the first to block a shot even when it hurts. When Atlanta needs a hero, they don’t look to a single moment—they look to Billy’s consistency, resilience, and heart. He’s not just a hero because of what he does on the ice; he’s a hero because of the culture he builds around him, one shift, one day at a time.

Written Option 1:

Elvar Gil-Galad, during the off season, has a secret identity that no one in the SHL knows about... Until now.

When the SHL hits the dusk and eventually the nightfall of its season, Elvar dons a silver mask and a cape and heads out into the galaxy to collect bounties of evil-doers who are being scoundrels to the peaceful citizens just trying to make it home at the end of the day doing whatever jobs they do to survive. Now, some would argue that a bounty hunter isn't a superhero, but Elvar would disagree. He only collects bounties on riff raff that are truly bad. The ones that are real bad dudes, like moving spice. One time though, Elvar worked with some Tuskens and a cowboy to blow up a leviathan beast that was eating all their lovestock and generally being a large nuisance. That was pretty awesome, huge steaks for everyone when that was done.

I guess in a world where Gino would be a superhero his alter ego should be "The Fortress". However I don't really know how that name would translate into a cool superpower. I could imagine something along the lines of Capone Gang Bege from One Piece, where he can use his body as a fortress with cannons and people inside that are miniaturized. Another possibility, albeit a slighty more boring one would be having Colossus (X-Men) powers, being an immovable object of metal that protects allies and deflects projectiles like Gino is protecting his goal and stopping shots in front of the net.

Regarding viilains and rivalries there is nothing that is apparent to me, but if we want to continue the rivalry from the hockey league it should be someone from Vancouver probably. Maybe someone that has powers like Rhino for example. An unstoppable force meeting an immovable object sort of situation would be fitting.
Other than that I'm out of ideas right now.

Written option 2:

While of course you have the classical hero in sports, the players able to perform when pressure is at its highest, a big goal in the final minutes against the rivals, getting a great goal to win the finals, beautiful assists when the game looks dire to set-up a teammate. But what is often forgotten are the more sacrificial hero’s, the player deciding to get a penalty to get some fire back into the game, a defender managing to complete shutdown a star forward to keep hold of that 1-0 lead into the final minutes, the goalie managing to keep the shutdown alive, maybe even multiple times, with great saves. But even outside the rink, you could have herolike qualities in the teams locker-room getting the morale back up after a loss, and staying grounded during a big winstreak, and in this way getting the team to stay concentrated during good stretches, or against weaker opponent. While also keeping the players motivated during the big losing streaks.

Written Option #2:

You could easily compare the makeup of a hockey team (or any pro franchise) to that of a film crew. You can look at the stars of a movie or tv show and compare them to the top players on the team. They are what the audience/fans see at the end of the day and are most often the ones that get most of the recognition for their respective group's successes, or lack thereof.
These athletes and actors alike have all been chosen for that specific reason, to elevate those around them and entertain. But we all know that there's so much more that goes on behind the scenes of both that translate to their triumphs.

In saying all of that, my choice for Edmonton's hero would be @HabsFanFromOntario. That isn't to diminish his player's (Olafur Atlason) accomplishments on the ice, because he's an absolute beast. For me, however, it has been all of his work behind the scenes while running the Blizzard that warrants this mention. His successes have been documented as he is a proven champion, and while he is no longer at the helm, he has constructed what could very well be another championship calibre team in an incredibly short time. After a championship run in S73 followed by finishing atop the regular season standings in S74 and S75, he tore down the roster and began rebuilding it from the ground up. With his guidance, Edmonton finds themselves back in the playoffs for the first time since that S75 season and in the conversation to make some noise.

It's not just his prowess at management though. For me, what sets him apart is his ability to connect with his team. Countless times, without prompting, he has reached out to check on me with an almost sixth sense like ability to know that I wasn't in a great head space. To take the time to talk and really listen means a lot to me, and I have no doubt in my mind that he extends that courtesy to everyone around him.

I've met a lot of great people since joining this league but HFFO is one that I happily call a friend and a hero, not just to our team but to this league as a whole.
