S82 PT #4: Hero Hockey League Due: Sunday, May 18th @ 11:59 PM PST

My character, 3WW Wingmate Roc, is from another universe so I have a great jumping off point for this prompt. I would choose to be called Roc-man, the Wings of the Mardu, to reflect the fact that Wingmate Roc is from Tarkir and a part of the Mardu clan. Wingmate Roc would be a side kick kind of character where he would come in to assist and be more of a supportive character, like his card. Providing active battlefield rescue and support to people who are fighting on the front lines and making sure that people can get airlifted out. I think that his powers would be with healing and a creating a mirror image creature copy of himself to confuse and outwit opponents. I think that overall the power level of Wingmate Roc as a hero would be low. He would have to do more on the administrative side and try and be a fan favourite.

I would not see Sunrise as a superhero, rather just a hero of his time that is willing to do the right thing whenever it comes to it. Maybe have him help the superheroes from the side, figuring things out, providing support, work on gadgets, that sort of stuff. I think he would maybe go into masked hero stuff after, I do not know, getting a girlfriend that is a heroine or something like that and maybe he would go from that but I doubt it would go that far. Sunrise is a person of thought, not of action, when it comes to that sort of thing and I do believe it would betray his concepts a little bit if he was like that.

Besides, I am not a fan of superhero stuff. My interest died off with the latter Marvel movies, think the one where Thanos wins and wipes half of the universe was the one that called it for me.

I think there is a not totally crazy way to view Dominik as the equivalent of Luke Skywalker to the San Francisco Pride from his time there. Back when his dad, Alex Winters, played in the SHL, he played for the Manhattan Rage. Alex would win the Challenge Cup just once in his career, in S52 going head to head against the Pride and Alex would score the Cup winning goal with around a minute left in Game 6 of that series. Leave it to the son, Dominik, to get drafted by the Pride and win the Razov trophy for playoff MVP in the S76 Cup win for the Pride’s first ever Challenge Cup victory. While Dominik wouldn’t win another Razov, he certainly was a key piece in the next three Cup wins for the Pride as they would go on to the first three-peat in SHL history. Dominik hopefully more than making up for what his father did against the Pride to be the Luke to Alex’s Anakin.

Mikkel Yordan is an unassuming farmer from Norway, but when the world is threatened he transforms into Sinbin, complete with flashing red light and goal horn. During the transformation, he looses two teeth, and his farmer's scythe becomes a hockey stick scythe. Sinbin is known world wide for standing up for teammates and picking fights with the bad guys. Upon finding a bad guy, he dishes out revenge with his fists and scythe, often giving them penalties for whatever nefarious deeds he caught them doing. He also gives himself penalties, usually roughing or slashing for minions and common thugs, but occasionally he will find a true nemesis fight. Those usually result in majors for boarding and fighting. The only penalty he has yet to receive is a misconduct because he is doing good in the world, not getting even or enjoying being a badass. While serving his penalties, he engraves the name of everyone he has combatted onto a silver thermos cup from Stanley, and then sells them for charity.

James Howlett as a superhero? Preposterous! If I were to entertain this wild notion, he would be some sort of rabid animal, like a... ferret, let's say that. Superpowers? The ability to take as many hits as he does in game and keep moving, like regeneration, and hockey stick blades coming from between his fingers. Of course he'd have to lace them with metal, since just having wood coming from your knuckles would work but he needs to actually slice, not just get a slicing penalty. All backed up by a terrible attitude. His main supervillain rival is a fellow hockey player with extremely similar powers, let's call him the weasel. He and James have a rivalry going way back, back to when James was young. He embraces his role as a heel, and doesn't entertain the press at all. Maybe the most hated player in the league, only kept around because of his skill and superpowers.  He actively comes around James' place every year on his birthday just to mess with him. This is all a ridiculous thought experiment though. Leave the superheroics to a guy named Logan or something.

In an alternate universe where Pork Tenderloin is a hockey-themed superhero he would don the alter ego Frozen Tenderloin and go around embracing his inner hockey goon in order to beat up bad guys and fight crime. There absolutely would be supervillains in this universe as well. Where there are people who would use superpowers for good there are certainly those that would use those powers for evil. Especially in the SHL there is plenty of room and imagery to have villains in terms of like, the teams and stuff. Like imagine the Berserker, a player for the Newfoundland Berserkers who is a supervillain. Or maybe the Barracuda, or the Dragons, the list goes on and on. There are plenty of cool pieces of imagery and symbolism that we could use. I could see the Wolfpack being a group of superheroes that dress themselves in wolf skins and goes around fighting crime. What a cool concept.

DEATH BEFORE DETRANSITION.

I do my best work in the ISFL, go find me there.

In an alternate world, Javelin Bodine is The Blueline Sentinel, a hockey-themed superhero armed with a carbon fiber shield shaped like a regulation hockey stick blade. What are his powers you may ask? Impeccable defensive instincts, the ability to freeze time for 2 and a half seconds (a “power play pause”), and slapshots so powerful they create sonic booms. He patrols arenas to ensure fairness, sportsmanship, and justice on and off the ice.

His nemesis? The Enforcer, a bruising villain who wields enchanted shoulder pads and thrives on chaos and dirty hits. The Enforcer can generate ice quakes and manipulate penalty minutes to trap players in the box indefinitely. Javelin despises being in the penalty box.

Their latest clash took place during a nationally televised All-Star Game, where The Enforcer tried to sabotage the puck drop with a blizzard of misconduct. Bodine deflected the onslaught with his shield, restored balance to the rink, and ensured the game and justice went on.

Written Option 1: Have you ever heard of Scribblenauts? Her name is the Brushstroke. What Gwendolyn is able to sketch out on the ice when she skates becomes real. To any new skater, she can just skate a hole and they fall right through into the basement below, but she often has to get creative. There was this one time where she had to sketch out a version of herself to fend off several supervillains from Calgary, elaborately dancing around a LITERAL WIZARD, the Twin Combos, and a once revived Spartan with perfect fighting skills. What ensued was this looney-toons skit where she'd dance around them, slip in a goal, dodge a fucking fireball, clash swords with the blinding speed, and the Norwegians trying to summon Oden, just to summon a blizzard on the wizard, pepper the spartan with an array of bullets (why do you think he disappeared?), and then calling a favor in with Poseidon to crash the waves into the remaining two dragon supervillains.... Edmonton lost 2-5 that game.

One thing Jesus Murphy has had instilled in him is the concept of the unsung hero and sacrifice for the greater good. In hockey terms, Murphy has always sought to be type of player people think of as an absolute dog when push comes to shove in the playoffs. He will gladly offer up his body and lay it on the line by blocking every shot he can put himself in the way of or finishing every hit with emphasis to wear them down over the course of a game and especially over the course of a series. Having watched his father and grandfather combine for four Challenge Cups, he has seen the importance that toughness can have on the psyche of a team as they work towards their ultimate goal. That relentless self-sacrifice is everything when the games get hardest, and being willing to bleed for the team around you is the mark of a true hero.

Written Option 2:

As much as I’d like to say that Scar Bealey is a hero behind the scenes and off the ice for the New Orleans Specters, I can humbly say that he’s not quite there yet. Don’t get me wrong, Scar is a hero in the sense that he donates a lot of his time to going to community events and visiting local children in the hospital, but in terms of being a team specific hero, he’s not too high on the list. New Orleans has been blessed with a lot of players that have come through the organization and stayed for a long time. A key component of being a team hero is experience. Knowing the right thing to do because you’ve been a bunch of times and actually doing it is a big step. Training hard, helping the young guns on the team, and being prepared for big games is huge. Guys like Hugh Manius, Dusty Rhodes, and Walt “Clyde” Frazier have been fantastic when it comes to these things and they’re well respected because of it. Billy Hill is another one. Scar is getting to that point and as these guys start to retire and leave the Specters, he’s ready to take on the role they’re leaving behind as soon as possible. (217)

Written option 2:

A hero on the ice is only that way because he puts in the time off the ice. Weather he is getting to the rink early to work on his skating, shooting, and puck handling. Doing things different than anyone else. He will be on the ice long after practice is over. He always backs his team up, always there as a fall back option. A player who truly embodies this better than anyone else is @Toaster. He’s always in the chat letting everyone know when there’s TPE to be earned, goes out of his way to listen to one of his teammates' podcasts and shares ideas to make it better. Always ready when streams start while never giving up even when things seem bad, and overall someone you would follow into battle. His character is always getting stars putting up shots getting hits just doing the dirty stuff to make him and everyone beside him better. Toaster embodies the heart of the hero in every facet .
