Here it is then, my 4000th post (unless someone deletes my posts again, but then I can just do this again). It’s been a longer time than I actually expected (created my player on july 4th). When looking back I’ve really had some fun times, I love statistics and games where I can improve my player or character (and which would last), so this seemed a perfect fit for me.
Before I signed up in the SHL I had played Fantasy Hockey for about 5 years on Yahoo, ESPN (With Mike Verminski) and Fantrax (with Edwin Ask) but never even heard about a sim league like this. I always was looking for more fantasy teams to control in Dynasty Leagues and my main source of finding these leagues and teams to take over was the HockeysFuture boards. When I stumbled upon posts about the SHL and VHL I usually checked it quickly and moved on. This time it was different, I actually joined and decided to try it out, we had a lockout on the horizon and I knew I had to do something to still my appetite for hockey. One thing I can say for sure, I do actually enjoy this more than the regular fantasy leagues so I have not regretted joining for a single moment. Since 250 words would be too little and nobody would read this if this were to be the actual article, I decided to make it a shout-out thread as well. So I would like to say some words about the people that actually posted in the thread, and maybe a few others as well. I’ll do them in the order they were posted. Kesler17 – There was a time, in a season far far away that Sarah and me actually talked about doing your real parents a favor and adopt you. You are truly “special”. We actually told you to just take the plane to the Netherlands that we would meet you there. I promise you that we would have picked you up eventually. You never showed up though so we got a new cat instead. Grimreaper – Never really been in much contact with you until we tried getting a hold of Fernando and his current situation, I remember being mentioned on the podcast you and Nando did and I think you spoke of me as one of the talented members, yet you did not pick me to build a team around. Have no idea anymore who you chose, but that is what I remember. When I posted this thread my postcount magically went down, so thanks for restoring that. HFFO – And with the 38th overall pick, the Hartford Hydras select retired goaltender Franz Vranitsky. I still believe you were worthy of this draft position and I would have done it again if I could do it all over again. It was great fun picking you and you could have still unretired. Just too bad that some people couldn’t see the joke in it and making the pick ‘PASSED’ instead of letting you there. You are still 4th round material to me HFFO, don’t worry. Would have loved playing with your new player, but we didn’t have the picks for it when I was still in Hartford/New England. Greebsie – The love of my life, I remember when I first asked you to join since we could use a center in Vancouver, you declined then and told me this could be ‘my thing’ and that you didn’t want to interfere with it. Within a few weeks you were sold after all and decided to create your first players. I loved how other teams tried signing you while we both knew that it would be futile and that we wanted to play together. Working towards the draft we made it clear we wanted to play together, so that might have cost you a few positions on the draft rankings, but I’m glad we got drafted together, since it always would have been a possibility that a team would have taken the risk and picked us seperatly. I know that there were two more teams that were really interested in acquiring us, Hamilton and Manhattan. So it’s good to see we ended up on a team that wanted us from the start. I love you and love the fact that you enjoy this site as well, your articles are always a joy to read. Now let’s continue planning our wedding by visiting locations soon Ace – When you first recreated me and Fernando knew you were a player we wanted. You had a great player in Chisling and we were sure you could do even better with Faulkner. During the season you actually came to me for advice on how to improve your player and we have been keeping contact ever since. When it became clear that Fernando wasn’t returning I wanted you to become GM and I know you said at first you didn’t want to do it without me I’m glad you are stepping through. You are building a great young team with a good future ahead of you. Picking up Dion for scraps was a great move in my opinion, no matter what the people from West Kendall say. I wish you and the Wolfpack all the best and I want to thank you that you decided to trade me. I’m loving it in Manhattan and I look forward into finding out what this play-off thing is actually about. Hallsy – Never had much contact together but I want to thank you for naming an award after me with the Vancouver Whalers. I still think the old logo should have been kept though, I miss that ugly whale. I know you are looking to acquire a (co) GM spot in the SHL someday, so want to wish you all the best and I hope you get what you are after. Keep in mind there is a lot of competition for these spots. Cuffy – The contact that we had was briefly in the Bern locker room in the VHLM. You are a great guy to have in the lockerroom of any team. Shame you had to go inactive during your time there, I’m sure your player could have gotten great like Cuff did here. Ramicus – Our little friend that actually wants to come to the wedding of me and Sarah. I’m sure that if your parents give you money, that you would be able to make it over. But I don’t think they will let you go if you tell them you would go to a wedding of people you know online and you have never seen in your life. You are a great member of the site and a nice teammate in the VHL, just wish you were more active there. Eliana Ben-Lev needs some love Ramicus Currently you are still a tandem with MacPherson in Vegas, but keep working hard so you can steal that #1 spot from him. I’m sure you got it in you. 12jmoritz – Grossman! One of the few guys I talked to a lot before the Season 10 draft. I had concerns about the activity in Manhattan when you guys expressed interest. I think it was basicly you and Heiss at the time that were really active there. The concerns I had back then are now thrown upside down as the locker room in Manhattan is really active. We just closed our S12 discussion topic and moved on to 13, time to break that amount of posts again. Shame that you didn’t make it in the draft but keep working on yourself and you might get your goals through a different path. Go hit some Grossy! OcAirlines – Glad to be teammates and that you decided to join us in Manhattan. I feel sorry for Joe who thought he was getting me and Sarah and that you would have re-signed then as well, but I’m glad that we still ended up together. We live about 3 hours away and you really should visit sometime. Will make sure we eat some fish than as I know how much you love that. Jmanpens19 (name changes are lame, but atleast yours does not say penis anymore) – We are the top TPE earners from our draft year and while people probably expected it from me after our draft year, they certainly didn’t expect it of you. Ryan ‘Nuge’Forsberg the season before was a huge failure, so you were bound to lose interest again (especially with such a retarded Edmonton name combination). You did proof them wrong and even though I still don’t like your player name I know you are doing a hell of a job for and with the Rage. Will be fun being on the same team as you. Otrebor13 – You selected me with the third overall pick after Michael Haan and Shanye Steele went first. Even though we didn’t win the cup with such a stacked team in Vancouver we had a hell of a year. It’s a shame you didn’t stay for GM, but Phil took over from you with a championship, so that title is also a bit yours. Best of luck with your new player Tucci, hope we end up somewhere together in our careers again. fever95 - Finally someone on the list who is almost as old as me, think you are a few months younger if I remembered it correctly. Always a classy guy to talk with and I actually tried to get you on our VHL team. We needed defense though and went with Sound. I love the loyalty you showed on McBride during his career, you are definitely a hall of fame player and with all the Garcia awards you have earned through your career I wouldn’t be surprised if O’Callahan will be just as good. Hopefully you can center my line some day, it would be an honor. Corcoran – Always liked you and I’m quite sure we could have been teammates if Jesster did not leave for Calgary again. Back then Jesster spoke to me about how he wanted to bring in you to be his successor. I know the Thunder could have been successful but ever since Jesster went back it had a negative vibe. I want to wish you goodluck in your last year, but I hope you won’t win the cup and that I’ll be the one who scores the winning goal against you in game 7. That would be the closest Corcoran and Willems will be during their careers then. Also thanks for pushing me to the VHL, I know you message everyone to join for the referral bonus but I’m enjoying participating in a second league. Thanks for not giving up on the recruiting, since I know you had to try multiple times before I gave in. Keenan – I should call you the guy we should have drafted to Hartford. If it had not been for us needing a center at the time I would definitely would have loved to take a shot at you. You were enthousiastic and willing to play anywhere. I’m glad we are teammates now as that probably means I’ll be featuring in your articles as well and they are always a pleasure to read. Abdeezy – I loved Brovalchuk in my junior year, looked up to your player and I wanted to become as good as him. In our world championship together it was great being on your wing. Shame we didn’t win, but our line with you, me and Pajari dominated the tournament. Didn’t even knew how controversial you were with your last player back then. Pjaney – You are one the guys I don’t really know too well, but I do know that Velevra is going to be a hell of a defender. With you going to the Panthers we won’t meet eachother much during the season, but make sure to let me score some goals for referencing you in this article Jamie – Without even knowing you I wrote you and Secord some private messages to come to the Whalers in season 9 when you both recreated. I wanted to win the cup and having the two of you certainly helped during our cup run. Sarah was excited first to add another girl to the locker room, things change though. Now you seem to hate me and I have no idea why, atleast that’s what Fernando told me earlier. I don’t care much though, just didn’t know what else to say here. Gifter of Bikes – One of the persons on the site I respect the most. I really like you and I know we have similar interests. I am still sad that you tortured me so much and ended up in Vegas but I understand your reasoning. Sharing the shower with Duddy was what gave Vegas the advantage. I hope all will go well with your job and that you can manage to sell the other apartment quickly. Remember you and your family will always be welcome if your Eurotrip goes through. coolstar87 – Throughout my career I always noticed your activity, you were helpful in every section of the site and Toronto couldn’t have gotten a more motivated guy as you to be their co-GM. I guess you have been busier lately due to the lack of updates with the point tasks, but some of the mess was cleared up by Sarah, Keenan and Heiss Hope you return to your former glory, Wong is definitely one of the more likeable people on the site. O4L – We only had contact once and I don’t remember what it was actually about. I only remember the outcome and that was you saying you could see why people would like me and that I wasn’t as bad as person as others told you. I wish you best of luck with leading the Dragons, take care of the Sex Panther for me. OcAirlines – Posting twice? So you are an attention whore after all You dragged on that free agency way to long. Next time just sign with us immediately (or convince Klose to join us). Ask – I didn’t even realize I recruited you until you mentioned being in a fantasy league with me. I know I had posted the same message in my leagues without much of a result. So I’m glad you are on the few to come out of it and that you remained active. Even though we had to pay a high price for you in Hartford I feel it was still a good deal. Just a shame it turned out to be the first overall pick. With all the goaltenders retiring your value for the team will only increase. You were not as active as before the last months due to a snowboarding trip, but hope you remain around the site. Your avatar is one of the cutest wolves ever! xDPark When is Chico Salmon coming? I still would love to be on the same team as you sometime but our paths still have to cross in the different leagues. It was a shame you and Storm didn’t get along due to him reporting your Point task in the VHL. Even without getting a long it was a huge mistake of the Legion to pass over you for Shetler, because in all respect of him, I’m quite sure your player will be the better one and could have been a big impact on our team. Duddy you took a handicapped Austria squad to have a succesfull Olympic year. Mostly thanks to our loan goalie MacPherson who we convinced to join us. I always liked you a lot, but due to Klose staying in Vegas for you that has gone downhill now I don’t think you guys are ready for a cup yet, but all the best for the new season. Stay off the drugs haha. Donini – When you first joined the site you were really motivated and were really begging me to let you join the agency I had back then. In the end I gave in to it but it didn’t last long. It was around the time that you got a suspension and we parted ways. I told you it was mainly because of your attitude and it looks like you took the advice. You have improved a lot since then and are turning out to be a great member of the community. You come a long way but you are okay in my book atleast. DaveSmith – You are probably one of the biggest mistakes made by Hartford. When we had the 4th overall pick in your draft year Fernando insisted on trading down so he wouldn’t miss out on Cezar (who he was afraid of going before 13th). I really liked you and I would have loved to play side by side as both alumni Whalers captains. It all turned out a different way, but with hindsight I should just have veto’d Nando’s move and pick you up after all. You are an excellent person in the community and I like you. Glad you got the Whalers their championship where my team failed the year before that. Still want to give a shout to some people that did not post in this thread: Phil- I still think I would have made an excellent co-gm for the Whalers, but I understand your reasoning for going with Nathan, great member and addition aswell and it got you a player for a second round pick and in all fairness Hayha would have been a first rounder otherwise. Thanks for being a good co-gm yourself when I was a Whaler, you were so much more active there than Tucci was (no offense Tucci ) Aaron ‘AAA’ Allen - We started talking in my draft year and it never really stopped. I always liked what you had to say and you are probably the only member which I endured the yearly xtranormal broadcasts from. I’m glad to be your teammate now, especially since you didn’t hit free agency soon enough for me to get you to the Hydras (I know how much you love rebuilding). Joecool37 – I know you wanted me on your junior team and were praying for me to fall down the rankings, and even though the old Firebirds logo was ugly as hell I would have loved playing for you. That feeling never changed and this offseason I was actually packing my bags already to become a Steelhawk. In the end diamond_ace scooped me up, but I think it as a very close call, I even liked your offer better but it was up to Ace, and with this deal he could pick up the player he wanted this year instead of giving that pick away in the trade. I still think you’re doing a great job with the Hawks, keep up the good work. Storm – Just a small thank you for the help in the start, you helped me understand the site when I just joined and made me feel comfortable about my initial build by removing unneeded points like durability. The above four were already lazy by not posting, but there are more lazy people craving for attention: Malcontentcapsfan - I actually were thinking of putting you in, it was fun drafting Pivonka 1st overall in the all star game as a retirement gift for him. He definitly had chemistry with me and Light. People were complaining that all lines should play during the all-star game, but we only had about 33 % game time or so. Not bad for a 9 point game. Good to see you made it as co-gm, a solid choice for the Steelhawks. We were close in being teammates this off-season, but will be competing on the ice once again instead. diamond_ace - We had some contact before I was drafted in the SHL, but the price was really high so you traded down from 4 instead. I always liked the Rage but I was scared about the activity. Especially when I represented Heiss as an agent and made me go public that he expected to compete for the play-offs I wondered if the Rage would ever get there. Play-offs were made last season and this season you struck at the right time. I'm glad Ace took your offer and proud to be part of the Rage. Hope to see you in action as a GM. Dylan - Everyone always makes fun of you. It's probably for a reason, we never really got in contact about anything and yet you want me to write something about you. Well here it goes then: best of luck with your new player next season :D bbp - Before I got drafted I made this awesome signature of my player with Lars the Icebear. I didn't go to the rage and didn't get to use it. Until I could throw your players head on it, I love how you still wear it with pride. Finally we are signature buddies. Enjoy your drinking tonight, and tomorrow, and all the days after. If there was a movie called 'The Neverending Drunk' you would definitly star in it. Glad to be teammates BBH - You basicly got dumped on Hartford a few seasons ago in the Jesster trade and it felt like it was hard on you. You were kinda rebelling against the team and we couldn't get track of what you wanted. Threatened to retire in S12 with Tylar, to quit altogether, it just wasn't a healthy situation. I'm glad you found a place now where you enjoy playing. Just watch your five hole this season, i'll be firing on you Goose - Thanks for carrying my player my first seasons in the league, we made a great duo chemistry wise in the old simulation program, shame we couldnt get anything started in 1.5 . You letting us know you would leave at the end of the contract was the beginning of going for a bigger rebuild in New England, so somewhere I'm glad you did. Hope we gave you a place you liked in West Kendall. Diglet - I still don't know why you would name yourself after a dildo shaped pokemon, but I'm sure you have your reasons. You build yourself a great player which makes it to bad to see you cant see to do the same with your VHL players. We were teammates there in my junior team but you never really showed up. Bit of a shame, could have had some fun in the lockerroom back then Syckez - Not sure what there is to say about you, but I always seemed to like you. I always kept sending you offers to trade Marshall to Hartford, but unfortunatly you never triggered the deal. I know you have a thing for Grossmann, but i'm on his team now words: 3818 Update Thread - Player Page Update Scale Former players: Ivo Willems (S9 SMJHL) (S10-28 SHL) Xander Green (S33-35 SMJHL) (S36-47 SHL) Vorian Atreides (S49-51 SMJHL) (S52-61 SHL)
