You said it was patriotic to see someone win a gold medal and raise their country's flag. I just don't see that as being patriotic. I don't consider any sport patriotic at all.

What would you consider patriotic?
Doing something that's trying to better my country. I don't see how winning a medal does that personally. I know I'm in the minority there but that's just how I see it
Thank you to My boys @Merica and @Ragnar for the lovely sigs!

They're head to head but I meant competing as in physically trying to stop another person from winning. Not doing the same thing they're doing but better.

Soccer - Chess on grass
Baseball - a guy swings a bat and runs to a base
Football - chess on turf
Basketball - a guy tosses a ball into a circle
Hockey - guys skates around and put rubber into a net
MMA - two guys kick and punch each other
Boxing - MMA minus kicking
Rugby - guys run around on grass with an egg and try to cross a line or kick it through two polls
nothing's a sport
Like I said, I think a sport is something where they're head to head, both teams are on the field at the same time trying to achieve a goal and physically stop someone from completing a goal. A trait that all of those have. And a trait that things like running, skiing, curling don't have.

Patriotism isnt just doing something to make your country better. Its your love for your country. Do you think those athletes put in 4 years of training for their 15 minutes of fame because they dont care about their country?
An olympic Mogul Skier trains for 4 years, at the olympics they end up taking 3 runs, each of them lasting 30 seconds. So the mogul skier places 20th. 4 years for 90 seconds of skiing and getting last place. Damn right they feel patriotic when they win first. They just sacrificed their body for 4 years for the country they know and love with little to no payday for the lesser known and more obscure sports.

So war is a sport?
By definition war would match that criteria but no personally I don't see it as a sport because I also think of sport as something someone enjoys to do which I don't think most in war enjoy it.
