Except Babcock won't break ties with Detroit.

Most likely not. His contracts is nearing its end though, he may want to come to Canada. Team may want to try something new with it's struggling playoff woes. I work in Windsor, Ontario across the river from Detroit (live in Hamilton) and get their radio stations. I've heard it all.
Go Leafs if the unlikely happened, I'd love to have him.
Carlyle is the best coach for Toronto tbh. Team just gotta learn to listen, not his fault they are selfish thats just a characteristic that they need to learn how to get rid of.

I hope you're joking.
We're talking about a guy who burned out Kessel/JVR/Bozak because he refused to ice a proper third or fourth line. A guy who cost the Leafs a second rounder because he played Holland 5 minutes a game a dozen times, and 11 minutes per game 39 times.
A guy who continued to screw up the PP despite having an abundance of offensively geared defencemen.
A guy who thought that his 1A goalie, a guy who has never started this many games before, should let his INJURED PLAYER decide if he should go into a game - and then watched as Bernier only hurt himself more, ending his season. You've got a 1B in Reimer who was struggling, certainly, but is coming off a 924 sv% season. Going with the small sample size is the reason why everybody was on board the Grabovski deal, and what do you know, he had another good season which everybody who can look beyond SSS could see coming.
Someone who is responsible for breaking up the MacArthur/Grabovski/Kulemin line, by ignoring the value of MacArthur as a scoring winger and pissing off Grabovski who was arguably the team's only quality two way center. If he doesn't alienate both of them, they're still on the team, instead of let go for nothing in return. Not to mention the Clarkson signing wouldn't happen either.
Then we've got the trying to fit the square into the circle mentality, where he has a club geared for offence and restricts the forwards by playing his insane defensive style, which got outshot like never before.
Had it not been for Carlyle, you could have a top 9 that includes:
I think you get the idea. You can flip the forwards around, but the point remains this team would have been far more dangerous had Carlyle not decided to piss off several of his underrated players.
Part of the blame goes on Nonis as well, don't get me wrong. But Carlyle is a fucking awful coach and his defensive schemes and lack of understanding of the value of possession or playing a third or fourth line should have been a damn obvious sign that he needs to go.
Yeah I mean his 3rd line in Anaheim sure was awful. Wasnt like it was arguably the best line in the playoffs when they won the cup. To say Carlyle is an awful coach is ill informed.
Thank you to My boys @Merica and @Ragnar for the lovely sigs!

Couldn't be the GM since that wouldn't fit the agenda.
You get players that fit the coach's system. Grabo and Carlyle did not get along so, yes, I think it was because of Carlyle that he's gone. I'm not totally disagreeing with you because the GM makes the final call, but they do try to bring in players who fit the coach's system and bring out the players that don't.

Oh, it's definitely Nonis' fault too. Don't get me wrong. Both of them should be fired.
But when you scratch MacArthur in the playoffs in favour of guys like Orr/McClaren, and then ask for grinder type players like Clarkson, then you're asking for trouble.
One of the reasons Grabo was bought out was because he put up poor numbers, because Carlyle misused him. So while Nonis is the one who made the decision (and deserves fault for it), Carlyle carries some of the blame as well.
The Leafs got nothing in return for either player because the Leafs didn't use them in their proper roles. That's on both the coach and the GM.
If you really think about it.... The extension is nothing tbh... if the Leafs start off shit Carlyle will be canned pretty quickly. Management is just giving the illusion that Carlyle is here to stay. Dont look much into it. Remember Ron Wilson with his extension.
Also Josh Rimer was speculating that Adam Oates, and Kirk Mueller could be the new assistants.

If I'm not mistaken didn't the Leafs come back from a 3-1 deficit in that series and have a hefty lead in the third? You need gritty players like Orr and McLaren against a team like the Bruins or else it never makes it to 7 because your stars are gonna get beat to shit.

Orr an Mclaren arent good lol. It was Komarov he brought the identity. The goons that play 2mins a night are useless this day an age. I hate that we dress two in Mcgratten and Westgarth but we do cuz were run by burke...
