My contract with Winnipeg is about to end after S79 and I'm ready to try something difficult, especially for goalies, and I want to try free agency. To be honest, my hopes that anything comes out of this aren't very high, but it doesn't hurt to try it at least once.
Why?
I've been in this league for nearly six years now and I still haven't won a Challenge Cup, which is my number one goal. Therefore, I'm only interested in joining a team that has a genuine shot at being a cup contender next season. I understand that most "good" teams already have a starting goalie, but I still want to put my name out there. We all know goalies don't matter, TPE doesn't matter in FHM, but I'm still in my so-called "prime" right now and I should have one more 2k season left. I'm one of the top earners of my draft class and I will continue to max earn.
Do I have any issues with my former team?
Of course not! I'm happy to re-sign with Winnipeg if nothing comes out of this free agency attempt and I think we/they have a locker room with lots of great people. However, I know they aren't in a position to contend just
yet , which gives me a small window to explore other options without feeling like I'm "wasting" my prime (if you want to call it like that). The management is aware of my intentions and it's very possible I will return, cup or no cup, if they have room for me. Having played there for six seasons and being eligible for a HTD now, I'm also willing to consider a sign-and-trade if it helps your team and you have HTD spots available.
In case you are a GM and in the unlikely case you don't know me or my player:
Rhett Carpet a.k.a. Shaggy is currently my second player; my first was also a goalie (Harry Carpet) and I spent my entire career with Toronto, trying to win with them, which unfortunately didn't work out so I retired that player after 24 seasons. During that time I have learned that luck plays such a big role in your player's success that being on the wrong team at the wrong time can really be a motivation killer. Why did I make another goalie? Because I love the position. I no longer care about player awards or records; I've achieved everything I wanted with my previous player, including being a double Hall of Famer (SHL & IIHF).
As for my current situation, I'm focused on my two main jobs/roles in the league, which I've both held for about five years: graphics head and Finland federation head. I mostly stick to my own team's locker room and good people are very important to me. However, that's not the main point right now. I'm open to joining any team that is a contender - or plans to be one next season - and offers me a better chance to win than Winnipeg does at the moment, regardless of my feelings towards the people there.
