"Shortly after announcing the start of the scholarship, Robert Spezza has approached me offering a 1.5M sum to be apart of the yearly award. The more money we have, the larger initiative is gives to our young, exceptional talent that calls Vancouver a home. This means that potentially the SHL will become stronger and that the rate of players who don't make it out of the SMJHL, specifically Vancouver in this situation, will hopefully decline drastically. Myself and Robert, whose player agency has a lot of Whaler members and other SMJHL members within it, are in the game to help these young guys out anyway possible in hopes that they find enjoyment and success, but also in order to help the SHL grow.

Of course, we are always open to other members stepping forward for donations, however, we'd prefer if a member were to come forward that they're a consistent contributor rather than doing it for just one year"
