Registered S27 Challenge Cup Champion
Center- Evandrus Jesster, Montreal Impact
The Captain of the Impact can take a big role on the Rookies team by providing his leadership and experience. He is currently leading all rookies with 18 points through 20 games, which makes him an obvious choice as the #1 centre for the team. He also has the most TPE amongst all rookies, so this dedication is yet another reason to choose Jesster. Left Wing- Zack Hoover, Vancouver Whalers The 4th overall pick in the past SMJHL draft would be a perfect choice for the 1st line winger. Hoover has put up 15 points through 20 games so far, good enough for 5th amongst all rookies. He is a playmaker, so he can be used to set up other snipers on the team like Wind and Jesster with his superb passing ability. He is also noted for being a great locker room guy, which is another benefit for choosing Hoover. Right Wing- Robb Wind, St Louis Scarecrows Wind struggled to start the season, but has been turning up his point production in recent games, and is currently sitting at 14 points though 20 games. He can bring this momentum onto the prospect team. He is a sniper who has an uncanny ability to score big time goals, so this will be a huge asset on the team. He is another captain which will be on the team, so he will also be a source of leadership and motivation for the other players. Defense- John Matthews, St Louis Scarecrows Matthews has put 16 points up so far this season, which makes him the highest scoring rookie on his team, and the highest scoring defensive rookie in the league. This scoring ability would be vital to have on the team, having a cannon from the point and a quarterback for the powerplay. He has been playing big minutes for the Scarecrows, so he can be confidently put into a top-2 role for the prospect team Along with his scoring ability, he is a beast in his own end. The only knock against him is that he isn’t a very physical player. Defense- Bastien Salabanzi, Detroit Falcons In order to balance out the lack of physicality from Matthews, Salabanzi would be a great choice to have as a defensive partner for him. He is a guy who seems to be able to eat an endless amount of minutes out there, along with being a very strong skater while having the ability to lay out huge checks. He is also very responsible in his own end, which is obviously great to have as a defenseman. Goalie- Austin Lemieux, Detroit Falcons The choice for goalie is pretty clear cut, with Lemieux being far and away the best goaltender coming out of the S24 SMJHL draft. He has been splitting starting time for the Falcons, so he has had experience with the shooters that he will be facing on the Send Downs team. He has put up a 6-3-1 record, along with a save percentage of 0.863% and a GAA of 3.26, which are respectable numbers for a rookie goaltender in this league. He is known to be great in the locker room, so this would be good to have on the team. (543 Words) |
