S24 Written PT#2 - 'Rookies vs. Send-downs: BeAGM'
#9

Left Wing: Zach Hoover - Vancouver Whalers

There are few positive things to say about Vancouver's regular season performance, but when you see this rookie play you'll forget all about their struggles. Zach Hoover has put up great numbers from the wing all season, despite a struggling team playing around him. Until recently he was leading all rookies in points, and though he's no longer alone at the top he's still far and away one of the best rookie forwards this season. On an all-star team such as this one, his point production is likely to explode.

Center: Evandrus Jesster - Montreal Impact

The number two pick in the SMJHL draft has quickly become the consensus best player to come out of that draft. He's been more of a playmaker, putting up six goals and twelve assists for eighteen points on the season, which is perfect for this team. Having players who can think three passes ahead and set up their teammates for goals is just as important as having the guys who put them away, and Jesster is able to do both. He'll really shine alongside Zach Hoover.

Right Wing: Robb Wind - St. Louis Scarecrows

I'm slightly on the fence about this pick, but I think it's a good one. Wind was taken first overall by the Scarecrows in the SMJHL draft, but didn't get off to the start that many expected to see. His play has greatly improved as of late, and he's picked up six goals and eight assists for fourteen points on the season. With any luck this play will continue into the rookies vs send-downs game, and the rookies will get a huge offensive boost from his play.

Defense: Maria Maximova - Kelowna Knights

Maximova has been the best rookie defensewoman all season. Her two way game has worked wonders, as she's been able to keep pucks out of her net and in the opponent's net. She's lethal both when she shoots the puck, as she's shown with her two goals on the year, but she can also see when her teammates are in position to score, as she's demonstrated with her twelve assists this season. She'll be perfect alongside Hoover-Jesster-Wind, dishing them the puck so they can put it away.

Defense: Jasper Clayton - Detroit Falcons

Totally not biased. I'd put Clayton alongside Maximova because the two would feed really well off of each other. Both tend to think pass-first, but have demonstrated that their shots are just as lethal as anyone else's. Clayton has two goals and ten assists this year, and alongside Maximova you can expect those numbers to show up in a send-downs versus rookies game.

Goaltender: Austin Lemieux - Detroit Falcons

Is there really anyone else to pick? The Falcons' success this season has been in no small part due to the performance of their goaltending tandem of Lemieux-Bowden. Lemieux has posted a .863 save percentage with a 3.26 goals against average, and is yet to allow a penalty shot. With Lemieux in goal, it'll be hard for the send downs to see any point production.
