S24 Written PT#2 - 'Rookies vs. Send-downs: BeAGM'
#10

C Evandrus Jesster :impact:
Well, no surprise here. Jesster started off his rookie season pretty hot and then tailed off a little bit for about 4-6 games. Recently, his production has picked up again and we're once again seeing why he was chosen as second overall in the recent draft. His production has launched him to a safe lead in rookie scoring, and only 8 points behind the overall league leader in points. His high-octane offense would easily drive the rookie squad into a fierce battle with seasoned players; an easy choice for the center position.

RW Robb Wind Scarecrows
Everytime you hear Jesster, there's no doubt that Wind comes to your mind as well. The previous 1st overall SMJHL draft pick, and consensus 2nd overall pick in the upcoming SHL draft has gotten off to a bit of a ho-hum start this season, hovering in the middle to the top of the pack in rookie scoring. But it's not his offensive numbers that he brings to the table, but a complimentary style of finesse and locker room authority. His Scarecrows lead the league with a commanding 14-4-2 record in the midst of a heavily stacked Eastern Conference. Wind is a complete player from top to bottom, and placed alongside Jesster, would yield incredible results.

LW Zach Hoover Whalers
Here's where things get a little hairy, but for the better. While this draft class was the deepest in years, the LW position is possibly the deepest of all positions. Hoover, Falk, Flacko, Nyquist... all could be named to the all-rookie squad, but Hoover takes the cake here. Since the start of the season Hoover has been right at the top of rookie scoring, and has single handedly carried a rather disappointing Vancouver team. As a lone bright spot for the Whalers, Hoover was the 4th overall pick this previous draft and hasn't disappointed. His positive play and lack of penalty minutes is a style compatible with his would-be linemates in Jesster & Wind. This is a line you could put up against almost any line in the SHL.

D Maria Maximova Knights
It's rare to find a female defender in the pro leagues, but that hasn't stopped Maria from being a dominant force. In hindsight, it's a wonder how Maximova fell through the hands of so many teams at the draft. While she won't astound you on the scoresheet, her ability to conquer the defensive end and be the first one back on offense is something to behold. In what's turning out to be an all-offense minded rookie team, Maria is the perfect fit for top defender.

D Jasper Clayton Falcons
As if the Falcons weren't good enough already, they nabbed a future star early in the second round. A big strong body on the puck, Clayton is a disciplined, corn-fed, what-you'd-expect type of defender. If the other team plans on shifting to an all out attack, it's probably not when Jasper is on the ice. He maintains a + rating with Detroit and has 12 points through 20 games this season, with no signs of slowing down. A solid player on any team.

G Austin Lemieux Falcons
While the goaltender position might not have been stacked this previous draft, the Falcons once again made a fantastic late round choice. Leading up to this season, Corey Holtby was the most sought-after tender, but was quickly dethroned. Austin has posted a respectable 3.26 GAA and .863 save percentage through 11 games, in which he's gone 6-3-1. Not bad at all, considering he plays in the lethal Eastern Conference. Easy choice for the rookie's starter.
