Task 1
TBD Task 2 Barry Allen: “I’m here with Inari Twain after their win over the Colorado Mammoths for the Four Star Cup. Inari, how does this win feel?†Inari Twain: “Amazing. I cannot describe- I cannot describe how amazing this feels.†Allen: You had a slow start in the playoffs, there were people worried that you weren’t going to produce, and then you started to create chances that created goals, and plays that threatened the opposition. How did you stay positive until tonight?†Twain: “I have an amazing team, we work hard every day, even when we’re in the playoffs. Cammy and Joaky kept me going, I kept feeding them, we kept trying to be a threat. If we weren’t scoring we were tiring their top guys out so we could send out Emi and Spitser. I was positive because I knew I was doing my job.†Allen: “Tonight you started the game off with an amazing pass to Hold Wit to split the D, is that something you practiced the two of you?†Twain: “Keeping my head up and finding a guy working hard to get open? All the time. All the credit there goes to Witters, made my job incredibly easy, anyone could’ve made that pass. He finished it.†Allen: “One last question and I’ll let you go celebrate, SHL Draft coming up, big day for you, what are you looking forward to most now?†Twain: “I want this feeling again, and I want it here in Vancouver. I’m very excited about the SHL, but the draft is just a step in a journey, I’m focused on working hard for this team here and celebrating the cup win with my team and the city of Vancouver.†Allen: “Thanks so much Inari.†Twain: “Thank you Barry.†Task 3 Vancouver’s second line out there against Colorado’s number one, it seems like Vancouver is taking a risk that’s paid off before. This line has deserved their minutes but the combo of Hagan, Larsson and Hammersmark is not to be trifled with. Larsson has been strong on the faceoffs tonight with just over 50% of the draws going his way. Phelps has been taking a bit of a beating up against him so you’ve got to think this is all about keeping the forecheck strong. Here we go, Phelps wins the draw with a clean push back to Odjick, Odjick skates with it, moving it across the blue line, Ødegård takes a pass from Odjick still on the point, Odjick is taking a risk and moving in towards the net forcing the Mammoths to watch down low. There’s a quick pass to Wit down the right side into the hashmarks, he holds, turns, Bennet is skating in and sure enough he sauces it tape to tape she SHOOTS ODJICK SNUCK IN OFF THE POINT BEHIND AN UNSUSPECTING DEFENSE AND DEFLECTS IT WIDE OH MY STARS. The puck is free behind the net nobody knows where it is there’s a battle for it in the corner Odjick isn’t skating back into position, nobody realizes it’s just Øregård alone up there but wait it might not matter Hoid Wit has the puck he’s taking it in front, nobody’s ready for it he pulls back and he LIFTS THE PUCK OVER THE UNSUSPECTING SHOULDER OF ALEKSANDROV AND IT IS IN THE BACK OF THE NET HOID WIT WITH THE OVERTIME WINNER AND THE VANCOUVER WHALERS HAVE WON THE FOUR STAR CUP, THEY’VE DONE IT. THE VANCOUVER WHALERS ARE YOUR FOUR STAR CUP CHAMPIONS IN OVERTIME OF GAME FOUR. WHAT A GOAL, WHAT A PLAY, WHAT A SERIES, WHAT A GAME TO WIN IT WITH. Task 4 Quite simply there is no other candidate for MVP than Carrick Murray, who’s legendary performance in the regular season carried over to the playoffs. Murray defended not only his team’s net, but his honor, posting a powerful 2.37 GAA against 205 shots, and a respectable .898 save percentage. Stats aside, and most importantly, when the Mammoths came out with a pressure the Whalers hadn’t faced once during the entire post-season, Carrick stood his ground and kept his team strong enough to hold on for the win. The Mammoths looked often poised to break the Vancouver shooting gallery with one of their own, but every time they’d gain possession, Murray would slow the game down long enough for the Vancouver backline to regain composure and turn the tide. If you’re looking for an MVP, look no further than the player that consistently gives his team a chance to win, none other than the legend himself, Carrick Murray. Task 5 TBD |
