TASK ONE: Pick either of the teams currently in the finals. Which game of theirs in the playoffs was the most important/crucial in them getting to this point this season? While down 2-1 in the series to Minnesota, Toronto needed a momentum swinger to even have a possibility of winning the series. In the offseason, Minnesota worked and built to becoming one of the favourites going into the season, building a team like Texas the previous season who won a Cup on defense. Garbanzo and Crutchfield stood in their way. However, in game 4 Toronto dominated onwards to a 4-1 win against Minnesota. That massive win tipped the series in their favour, and they went on to win the next two after to take the series 4-2 after being down 2-1 going into this game. Getting passed West Kendall was tough, but TOronto fought tooth and nail to beat out Minnesota. THat’s why I think this game was so important in getting Toronto into the finals, and one of the biggest games of the postseason was not a game seven, but a game 4.

TASK TWO: Who is your choice for the unsung hero of the S37 playoffs up to this point? Must be at least 150 words and include at least two statistics in support.

In every playoffs ever the forwards get all the spotlight. Last season Winston Windsor was the undeniable best player of the playoffs, and had one of the most dominant playoffs in recent memory. He did not win the Razov because he is a defender and he wasn’t the top scorer. Max Weber may be the player of the playoffs and no one talks about him. His 15 assists, 33% of which have been on the powerplay, have been the reason Winnipeg has absolutely dominated its way towards the Challenge Cup. He has been the best puck moving defender these playoffs, and his 33 shots blocked have shown how good his two way game is. WIthout his transition game, I don’t think we see Fleming hit 30 points in 18 games without Weber on his line (and 800 minutes a game). Max Weber has been the best player these playoffs, and Winnipeg must be happy to have traded for him.

TASK FOUR: Who is the favorite and who is the underdog of this series? Are they almost even, or is there a big skill difference between the two teams? Must be at least 150 words and include at least three statistics in support.

Winnipeg is easily the favourite. While Toronto has recently won the Cup, Winnipeg has shown these playoffs the dominance of a top 6 rotation, which has caused quite a stir amongst the league. Winnipeg steamrolled the former Challenge Cup winners Texas in 4 games, handedly outscoring them 23-9 with Fleming and Evans. They then took out a hot Seattle team quickly, and are definitely the favourites to win the Cup. (Now they have Fleming with 30 points and Evans with 25) Don’t count out Toronto, however. Their experience and truculence has been evident these playoffs against Minnesota and West Kendall, two formidable opponents, beating West Kendall in 5 games only, despite West Kendall dominating the East most of the year. In this series many expect Winnipeg to win due to their playoffs and 6 player rotation. However, the experience of Toronto could prove to be too much. Toronto has done this before, for the first time in their histories too, which means they will be hungry for a second in short order, so we expect them to come out fighting.
