The season just ended and let’s just say the results were very disappointing and quite shocking.There was a lot of expectations for this Colorado squad this season. They finished 3rd a year ago and with most of their core coming back, winning the cup seemed possible. And yet, the team missed the playoffs. A lot of things went wrong, but the main factor has to be the veterans who didn't show up this season. These are still pretty young players whose expectations were to be in the SHL this season and didn’t make it is not easy to take. Guys like Daedric Heikennin, Wolf Von Hammersmark, Alexander Zajac and TJ Bailey were supposed to be dominant players on the Mammoths top 6. None of them ended up with a PPG and Colorado was 3rd last for goals for with a total of 146. The defensemen squad did overall pretty decently but no one really stood out. It was a pretty young group who made a lot of rookie mistakes but were bailed out by the guy I easily consider mvp of this year's team.

That man was the heart and soul from the beginning of the season up until when he was traded to PSG. It is pretty obvious who I'm talking about, team captain and goaltender Aleksandr Aleksandrov. He's the only one who showed up night in and night out to keep this team on the playoff run as long as he could. Once he got traded, the team had a record of 3-7 with multiple games allowing 4+ goals. At first sight, his season stats aren't nothing exceptional. He posted a 88.4 save percentage and a goal against of 2.93. The team was allowing a lot of scoring chances, he was ranked number 2 for shots against, just behind Cedric Moreau. Once Aleksandr played on his new team he posted a 90.0 save percentage, which is 10% better than the number one place Evgueni Marmeladov. Sure, it's a small sample size but you can easily imagine him having the best stats in the league if he played on a good squad all season long.
