I interviewed James Johnson/Mongoose87 from Halifax Raiders!


1. How long have you been playing in Halifax?
This will be my second season, I was only drafted last year.

2. Is there anything that has come as a surprise to you while living and playing in Halifax?
When you think of Canada, you think of the snowy North, of French Quebec and of Toronto. I hadn't even heard of Halifax before the draft. But here there's a really vibrant hockey culture. Halifax is crazy for the Raiders, and it's a great town to play in.

3. Who is the most annoying Raiders player to play against in the practice?
Nobody but Berger. That guy can be real tricky. He's a threat to pass or to shoot, and whichever one you're prepared for, he's doing the opposite.

4. What are some of the most important things you want to see from the guy who is playing on the same pairing with you?
That guy will be JT. Good communication is obviously number 1. I also like to work with a guy a little more mobile than I am. I try to get in position to block shots, it's good to have someone who can chase at the same time.

5. In general, what tips or advice would you like to give to a player like me who is just now entering the SMJHL?
Look to the vets, we're here to help. And don't try to do too much. You've got to walk before you can run.
