They are actually in desperate need of females. The one child policy, coupled with traditional Chinese misogyny, has resulted in a huge shortage in the female population. From the eighties on, couples routinely kept only male children. There are towns made up of bachelor males with no hope of finding wives, known as "bachelor villages".
