Coming into tonight’s matchup we saw the St. Louis Scarecrows coming into town to face off against the Detroit Falcons. The game could easily be penned as the battle of the basement with a third of the season already underway. St. Louis with a record of 4-7-3 and Detroit 4-9-3. Both of these teams will be looking to capitalize on tonight and start a run to climb back into the playoffs. 1st Period: Detroit came out of the opening faceoff with a determined approach, beating the St. Louis players to the corners and winning puck battles. The Scarecrows manage to make it out of the first 10 minutes without conceding. Catching up towards the end of the first period, Detroit on the power play continues to put shots on net. David Fantobens with the quick shot missing the net, the puck bounces off the corner boards to Wolfhard Richter he take it to the net, shoots, the puck trickles over the line! 1-0 Detroit 16:10 of the first period. ![]() Wolfhard Richter 6 (David Fantobens 1, Marc Palicka 6) at 16:10 (PP)
Last minute power play with a draw in the Scarecrows end. Jack Daniels wins the faceoff clean to Vladislav Konstantin, he takes one stride off the circle and rips it top shelf to give the Falcons a 2-0 lead at 19:27 of the first period. Detroit 2/3 on the PP and 1/1 on the PK with St. Louis 0/1 on the PP and 1/3 on the PK. ![]() Vladislav Konstantin 3 (Marc Palicka 7, Tig Murphy 5) at 19:27 (PP)
2nd Period: The second period didn’t have much to write home about. We saw the Falcons offense taper off as both teams struggled to get much offense going. Detroit with a couple undisciplined penalties but nothing came of them. The period draws to an end shots 4 for Detroit and 5 for St. Louis. Detroit 2/2 on the PK and STL 0/2 on the PP. 3rd Period: Detroit comes back out in this period flying, outskating their opposition and forcing turnovers. Some desperation plays as St. Louis scrambles in their own end, and find themselves on the penalty kill for an interference minor. 30 seconds left in Detroit’s penalty, Lightning Jones shoots the puck wide of the net but, Konstantin buzzing around the boards picks it up, he circles the net and lets a quick snap shot off it’s in the net! Konstantin with his second of the night and Detroit is up 3-0 at 15:26 of the third period. ![]() Vladislav Konstantin celebrates after a power play goal at 15:26
Minutes later Detroit on another power play due to delay of game, Tig Murphy and Lightning Jones with the give and go as Murphy receives the puck and rips the shot, it beats the goalie five hole. Murphy with a power play goal at 17:21 of the third period. ![]() Tig Murphy 1 (Lightning Jones 5, Flacko Lagerfield 4) at 17:21 (PP)
With that the game comes to an end, utter disappoint for St. Louis as their difficult season continues. Detroit leaves tonight with a bit of hope after an impressive performance. Cedric Robinson with the quiet 9 stop shutout, I don't think he even broke a sweat! 3 Stars 1: Vladislav Konstantin (DET) 2: Cedric Robinson (DET) 3: Tig Murphy (DET) |
