Occasionally looking into renaming an award or two does make sense but we should still tread carefully and not overdo it. After all, the award names are meant to honor people who were instrumental in initially setting up this league and helping it thrive early on, they are not necessarily mean to honor the absolute best player there ever was in said position. With the different eras that the SHL went through this would be super tough to determine anyway because players at different times had much different opportunities.

Some of your reasoning is a bit off too if I may say so because it doesn't account for how different the league used to be when the awards where first named. Careers early on were just sooooo different compared to how they are today. Due to the TPE and regression structure it was pretty much impossible to play longer than 6-8 seasons and be productive, defensemen rarely ever scored more than 25 points due to the different version of the sim engine that was used etc... That's why guys like Stevens or McDonald aren't as bad as you make them out to be.

With that being said, some players who have awards named after them are more legendary than others so if we were to look into renaming some of them, then the Stevens and the McDonald would indeed be first in line (as they aren't Mexico or McBride caliber), maybe along with the Ferguson and the Razov. Hard no to renaming the Uppercut though, Leafs is a legend who contributed hugely to building up this league and was the GM with the longest tenure until quite recently. I don't see his name ever being replaced there.
