After a mediocre preseason with 3 goals, and 1 assist through 50 games, and going pointless in his first regular season game. Rookie Liam Hutchinson collected two helpers in the second period to lift the Knights over the Armada for their first regular season win. We sat down with Liam after the game to look at how he has handled his disappointing preseason, and what changes he has made. 

Q - Hi Liam, how do you feel after that game
A - I feel pretty ecstatic. My first multi-point junior game is a big milestone. My line-mates have helped me out a ton

Q - Is there any changes you made compared to the first game?
A- Not really, I just stuck to my game. The first regular season game I was bit nervous for, so I was in my head a bit. 

Q - How did you feel like your preseason went?
A- I feel like I played OK. I would have like to get more points, and that is one area in my game that I am devoting a lot of time to. Adjusting to the competition took some time, and the regular season will require more adjustment to my game to keep up with the competition as the season roll along.

Q- You say you are now working on the offensive side to your game, what were you working on before?
A- To prep for juniors I worked a lot of my positing, and defence. Going into the preseason I did not want to be a defensive liability to my team. Although I did end the preseason with a plus minus of -12 so I will be continuing to work on my defence.

Q- Do you think your first regular season game, or your second regular season game is more indicative to what is to come for the rest of the season?
A- I don't think I'll be putting up multi point games every game, so it will be somewhere in the middle. It's just not my play-style to put up huge point totals. I do expect myself to become a steady producer as the year progresses, especially as I continue to work on my passing, puck handling, and shot.

Q- Are you happy with the amount of ice time you are getting?
A- Absolutely, especially since I haven't been producing point. The coaching staff is definitely putting me in a position to succeed with the powerplay time I am getting. That is the reason I want to work on my offensive side to start putting up more points. I want to solidify my position in the middle 6.

Q- Do you see yourself as a middle 6 player, or a top 6 player by the end of the season?
A- I want to get to the point where I can be a constant top 6 player, but going into the playoffs I would not be disappointed if my ice time was reduced. I am in it for the teams success, and will play whatever role the coaching staff wants me to play. 

Q- Where do you see yourself going in the SHL entry draft?
A- I have no clue. I am just trying to have the best season I can, and hopefully I can catch the eye of some SHL scouts. I'll keep a good attitude throughout the season. If I go late, it doesn't matter. I was a late pick for the SMJHL entry draft and that hasn't effected my much. I'll play just as hard no matter where I go.

Q- Are you enjoying your first few weeks with the Knights?
A- Absolutely, everyone in the locker room has been friendly and welcoming. I've enjoyed chatting with everyone, and look forward to getting to know them better as the year goes on.
