PGS S45: Game 134 - VAN v ANC
#1

Welcome to the post game show of the 6th week game between the Vancouver Whalers and the Anchorage Armada!

Final Score
Whalers 5:7 Armada

The Vancouver Whalers are coming into this game from a tight 3:4 loss against the Montreal Militia. They are currently on a 14-8-4 record and 32 points which puts them within reach to the top. The Armada return home from a 2:3 loss in Lethbridge against the currently 9th placed Lions. Their 17-8-1 record puts them at 35 points and still ahead of their opponent of the day.

Period 1

The game is only 1:11 old, when Vancouver defenseman Egor Kucherov finds himself in the penalty box for a high stick. The Armada have a first chance to test their power play on this evening, and it doesn't take long until Xena manages to win a puck in the offensive zone and pass it back to the blue line, where Leopold Lockhart is already waiting for the slapshot. And indeed the puck finds the back of the net. The Armada open the score before even 2 full minutes are played. This is Lockhart's 10th goal of the season! The Whalers play at full strength again, but they still don't get many chances. After almost 4 minutes Ricardo Cotalay's shot misses the net, but the puck is picked up by Xena who manages to put in her own rebound for the early 2:0 lead. After this shock, the Whalers find themselves a bit better in the game, but only a few minutes later, they take their second penalty of the game. And the Armada's power play is on fire tonight. With a beautiful combination, Thomas Speardane and Ricardo Cotalay are able to set up Eero Niemi perfectly for his 8th goal in the season. The Whalers are now broken down and don't manage to create anything. It's really one-way hockey in Alaska tonight. And not even 5 minutes later, Brock Emmerton is able to pick up a blocked shot by Thomas Speardane and score the 4th goal of the night for the Armada. After this goal, Whaler's starting goalie Casimir Stevens has had enough and is substituted by Eddy Ask Jr. After this, the Whalers did indeed wake up and manage to get a couple of chances themselves, but they fail to score. At least Ask manages to keep his goal clean for the rest of the period.

Goals:
Armada Leopold Lockhart 1:27 (PP) - Assisted by Xena
Armada Xena 3:50 - Assisted by Ricardo Cotalay and Thomas Speardane
Armada Eero Niemi 9:02 (PP) - Assisted by Ricardo Cotalay and Thomas Speardane
Armada Brock Emmerton 13:52 - Assisted by Thomas Speardane

Remarks:
Whalers 13:52 substitution of Casimir Stevens through Eddy Ask Jr.

Period 2

The Armada are determined not to give their opponents a game tonight and come out strong in the second. And after not even 3 minutes, Thomas Speardane finds Kenji Yoshimura who manages to score his 4th goal of the season. For those who've lost count, yes this is Speardane's 4th assist on the 5th goal of the evening! Only 4 minutes later, Xena scores her second of the night to make it 6:0 for the Anchorage Armada. The game is not even half way to the finish and it seems already over. But an interference penalty called against Ricardo Cotalay at least brings Vancouver the first power play of the night. And indeed Barret McCarthy manages to put the Whalers on the board. The rest of the period passes like one would expect a 6:1 game to pass. Anchorage has this game under control and doesn't need to put much more effort into it.

Goals:
Armada Kenji Yoshimura 22:45 - Assisted by Thomas Speardane and Bust
Armada Xena 26:44 - Assisted by Mika Mayfield and Maxime Bouchard
Whalers Berret McCarthy 29:47 (PP) - Assisted by Andy Kerr

Period 3

This time the Whalers come completely changed out of their locker room. It looks like their coach was able to find the right words in this brake. Peter Larson in the Armada goal has to stop shot after shot until he can't stop Noah Nowes' to make it 6:2 after 5 minutes into the period. The Whalers continue their assault and only 4 minutes later, Jack Kennedy's shot finds the back of the net as well. The Armada begin to look a bit nervous now and Thomas Speardane has to stop the next attack with help of his stick and takes a hooking penalty. The Whalers who were already successful in their first power play, manage to score again. It's Noah Nowes again after a combination with Jack Kennedy and Egor Kucherov. Suddendly the once already lost game, looks to open up again. The Armada's lead has been cut to only 2 goals. And they seem now even unable to skate. The Whalers look like an SHL team right now and it's Nowes again who manages to cut the Armada lead to one goal. Noah Nowes didn't even need 10 minutes to complete his first hat trick of the season! Anchorage's head coach now looks furious and takes his time out. And it looks to have worked. Xena, Ricardo Cotalay and Mika Mayfield only need 20 seconds to finally finish all Vancouver hopes and make this a 7:5 game. They are able to hold onto that for the remaining 6 minutes of this crazy game.

Goals:
Whalers Noah Nowes 44:39 - Assisted by Tauras Karazija and Andy Kerr
Whalers Jack Kennedy 49:00 - Assisted by Tauras Karazija and Noah Nowes
Whalers Noah Nowes 52:33 (PP) - Assisted by Jack Kennedy and Egor Kucherov
Whalers Noah Nowes 53:12 - Assisted by Andy Kerr and Bernik Vrzala
Armada Mika Mayfield 53:33 - Assisted by Ricardo Cotalay and Xena

Three Stars

1. Armada Xena (2G, 2A)
2. Whalers Noah Nowes (3G, 1A)
3. Armada Thomas Speardane (4A)
