PGS S45 Game 3: HAL v COL
#16
(This post was last modified: 01-24-2019, 01:36 PM by Kalakar.)

1. There was a lot of stoppage of plays tonight, and it shows. Eighty-eight faceoffs occured, and Halifax won fifty-six of them. Among the eight centermen, Halifax's Kristoffer Matsson had a slight edge over Mr. Faceoffs, with nine faceoff wins out of thirteen attempts. Mr. Faceoffs was the best first line center tonight, staying true to his name with a 0.65% faceoff win to Colorado's Zidek's 0.47%. The worst result on the dot tonight was from Colorado's second line center Michael Scarn with seven faceoffs won in eighteen attempts for 0.39%. As it is the first game for both these teams in the SMJHL, we believe these young centermen will only grow and get better throughout the season.

2.  Both goalies were busy tonight, but Colorado's Yuri Ushakov even more so, stopping thirty-four shots in thirty-eight attempts tonight. Halifax came into the game strong with seventeen shots in the first period, but showed no results. However, it took them five minutes into the second period to show signs of life. Three Raiders scored their first goals, but that didn't stop the Raptors from coming back into the game to take it into shootout. Two goals on two attempts declared them winner for their first game in the SMJHL. Both rookie goaltenders showed poise tonight and we truly believe both of them will become top goaltenders in the near future.

3. This game was filled with high scoring chances but also big hits. Notably Halifax's Perry Morgan, known for his dubious plays that often lead him to the penalty box, had six hits tonight. Thirty-two hits were made by the Raiders from various players, from forwards to defensemen. On the flipside, Colorado was more reserved, with a low nineteen hits to Raiders players. Halifax should probably have tried to block more shots to help their goaltender Mike McKorsy win the game, blocking only eight shots during the game. The Raptors defenders on the other end truly helped their starter by blocking twelve shots coming from Halifax.
