Special Teams Not Special for the Knights
Coming into this game the Knights were one of the better combined special teams, with a stellar powerplay and an average penalty kill. Tonight they took far too many penalties, giving Montreal 5 powerplays, and giving up 3 goals on them. The real dagger however is the 4-2 lead they took going into the third period evaportated due to two of those powerplay goals, letting Montreal back into the game. The Knights did manage to score a powerplay goal of their own, but the timing of the ones they gave up swung the momentum in Montreal's favor in a huge way, and ultimately is why the Knights walked away from this game with a shootout loss rather than a regulation win. Goalie Change Sparks the Militia After a rocky start in the first period where three goals found their way past Petr Vrana, the fourth goal only a few minutes into the second period sparked a change. Petr Vrana gave up 4 goals on 11 shots, while Aleksi O'Koivu-Volkova came in and proceeded to stop 15 of the 15 shots faced in the final two periods and overtime. Goalie changes are sometimes done to spark the team and it sure worked here and Montreal came out strong in the third period by drawing penalties and tying the game up with the ensuing powerplays. Aleksi O'Koivu-Volkova also stopped all three shootout attempts by the Knights, specifically some of the top scorers in the league, and stole the win tonight for Montreal. Shootout Highlights Shot 1: Karlstrabe Scholz skates down the right wing side, takes a hard wrist shot that Aleksi O'Koivu-Volkova gets a piece of with the glove Shot 2: Keegan Angelo skates down the center of the ice slowly, takes a fast snap shot aimed right at the 5-hole and Vivian Leblanc closes the door with a stick save Shot 3: Vladislav Konstantin skates fast down the center of the ice, deeks to his backhand and Aleksi O'Koivu-Volkova gets a leg pad on it Shot 4: Willy Mack skates down the left wing side with speed, takes a quick snap shot that beats Vivian Leblac blocker side. Montreal puts the Knights on their heels. Shot 5: Nickolas Klaus must score to keep it going, he slowly skates down the center of the ice and trys to corral the rolling puck. He deeks to his backhand, shoots, and Aleksi O'Koivu-Volkova gets a piece of it with his blocker. |
