PGS S45 Game 122: Anaheim vs Anchorage
#8

Turning Point
Anaheim wasn't the first to have to kill off a penalty, but when Alexei Ivanov took a penalty for holding against Maxime Bouchard at 11:31 of the first, it seemed to set the tone for the Outlaws. Anchorage didn't capitalize on that powerplay, but the game returned to even strength for a mere 22 seconds before Anaheim centre Thornton Opperman slashed Bust and was sent to the box. This time, Anchorage's Dean Colt III scored, assisted by Mika Mayfield and a revenge-seeking Bouchard. It was the only powerplay goal Anchorage would score, despite 5 more chances, but the amount of time spent on the man advantage only helped spur them to a win.

Three Dimly Lit Stars
3 - Anthony Banthony
Banthony may not have appeared on the score sheet, but he was on the ice for Mister McCarty's tying goal in the second period and for Collin Gibbles' goal that had the Outlaws trailing by just one with over half the third period still to play. At a plus two for the game, it's no wonder that Banthony was frustrated enough to draw a roughing penalty near the end of the third.

2 - Jacob Geza
Geza put in the work (nearly 22 minutes of it) to support his defence partner Leopold Lockhart and provide a defensive backbone for the team. Despite being on the ice for an Anaheim goal, Geza managed 4 shots on goal, displaying his excellent two-way play.

1 - Mister McCarty
In a different universe, McCarty's game-tying goal spells a very different result for an Anaheim Outlaws who followed his lead and stayed out of the box for the rest of the game. Unfortunately, we don't live in that universe.

Alexei Ivanov Takes Advantage
For a player that was only on the ice for 5 and a half minutes of the game, Alexei Ivanov certainly made his presence known. Aside from his unfortunate penalty at the beginning of the game, Ivanov also notched a secondary assist on the first goal of the game, as well as laying two hits on key players on the Armada: Xena and Dean Colt III. The hit on Dean Colt III is particularly interesting, as Ivanov relieved Colt III of the puck, and despite it being picked up by Anchorage's Cotalay, allowed McCarty to pick off Cotalay's pass and send the puck out of the zone. Colt III managed to score not long after that, but by then Ivanov had left the ice, proving that his limited presence had a significant impact for the Outlaws.
