Comment #1: Head To Head (Roger Baston vs Ty Hoover)
Both the starting first line centers on their respective teams, we will analyze who contributed the most to their teams success in this specific game. In the minutes played department Baston played a solid 37 minutes this game however he was slightly edged out by Hoover who played a total of 40 minutes, now playing a bit less may be a good thing it seems that St. Louis rely a lot on their #1 center in this game. The face-off battle was another stat that we looked at and it seems that Hoover out-performed Baston in that category with Baston only notching 9/23 face-offs to Hoover's 14/24, edge Hoover. Baston got himself a little heated this game and took a penalty however made up for it by getting himself 2 shots on net and 1 assist for a +1 on the night, that is already 2 shots of the Lions 20 for the night. Hoover was a bit more aggressive notching 4 hits however was invisible on the scoreboard and in the end ended up a -1. Overall, Baston had a better game and made a bigger difference in the game, the face-off differentials were not that far off to skew things.
Comment #2: Special Teams? What Special Team?
Oh my, is all that needs to be said regarding both sides special teams today. St. Louis had 3 powerplays with a 0% convergence rate which you would think they could at least pot one of the opportunities facing a weak Lethbridge Lions side. The Lions themselves also struggled but somehow managed to beat the St. Louis keeper on one of 4 attempts giving them a 25% success rate on powerplays on the night. Now Penalty killing wise, the stats of course will show that one team performed better than the other. Lethbridge killed off all of their penalties and to top it off they actually scored short-handing, what in the world is happening in St. Louis. The St. Louis penalty kill could not get it done and let in a goal to a team who totaled 20 shots all game. St. Louis really needs to get their Special Teams under control if they want to make it to the top.
Comment #3: It wasn't only the goalie
We have give credit where credit is due and praise Nadeau for his goaltending performance however this segment is not about that. Here we will take a look at the another player who made this outcome possible for Lethrbridge. Joln DuBolk played as if he was a second goalie this game and even drove offense from the defensive position. He was all over the ice and on top of his game, and by far the best defender on the ice tonight. With 4 blocked shots, 1 hit he was not scared to take the body and let some pucks just bounce right off him to help out his netminder. On top of that he notched 2 points, one goal off of one shot that might I say was a rocket of a shot and there was no way in hell even the best goalie was stopping that cannon, and an apple. Although given the 2nd star of the game it was honestly a toss up between him and Nadeau when it came down to it.
