Comment #1 Three stars of the game
1 - Mikael Choybuk - Mikael had a great game and it showed not only on the ice but also in the statistics. He made 8 shots on goal and scored twice. Both of these goals were game tying goals and the last one forced OT where at the end Hallifax unfortunatelly lost. He played key minutes on both special teams (PK and PP) and got a +/- of +2. The only thing missing was the team W at the end.
2 - Mr. Faceoffs - The name is saying it all. Mr.Faceoffs was the key man at the circle winning 20 out of 31 faceoffs. He assisted twice - to the first and the second goal for Halifax. He also made the opponent fear him with a strong physical game. He recorded 4 hits and played big minutes during the PP and PK and got a +/- of +2.
3 - Alexander Selich - The hero for Colorado. The young and very perspective Selich scored a goal and assisted. He scored the first goal of the 3rd period and gave his team the lead during the most important part of the game, but Halifax managed to tie it up. When it went to shootout there was no doubt that Selich will be the one of those players who will shoot and he did. His shot gave Colorado the big first W of the season.

Comment #2 The battle of a Latvian and an Ex-Latvian
One of the more interesting parts of this game was also the battle between two Latvia born players from who one is still trying to get his first games in the national team while the second one has chosen a different path and changed his nationality to be a part of the Czechoslovakia IIHF team. Dzelme vs Voloshin. The overall winner of this microbattle was Voloshin who not only ended up with the W, but also was a big part of his teams success. Voloshin scored a goal late in the 2nd period to tie the game up at 3:3. He also stepped on the ice in PP and recorded a +/- +1. On the other hand Dzelme didn't have the best game. He ended up with a negative +/- -1. He did win more than half of the faceoffs he took (8/14) but that is a small bonus considering that his team lost the game.

Comment #3 The rise of the Smeb brothers
Halifax showed their lack of judgement or just the opposite - their amazing knowledge of the SHL and SMJHL and drafted 3 of 4 Smeb brothers. As it turns out at least in this game the Smeb brothers came trough, to be more precise - Chico Smeb. Chico assisted twice and got a +/- rating of +2 with only 12 minutes of play. Daniel Smeb played a little less (10 minutes), won 5 out of 12 faceoffs and got one shot on the net. Parker Smeb played the least time on ice and got 2PIMs, shot the puck 2 times and made 2 hits. After the first game it seems that Chico will be the passer, Daniel the faceoff guy and Parker the wannabe goon. Lets see how the season works out for Halifax and the Smeb brothers.
